Shady Oak is your all American back yard hidden treasure restaurant in my opinion. If your looking for classy chic modern stylish its not, if you want friendly welcoming, relaxed atmosphere with good comfort food and drink then come here. As a woman I found this important- I watched a single older woman come in by herself who said she had never been there before, feel so welcome and comfortable by the waitresses, that she really enjoyed her meal, and was so delighted she would be back. This was our 6th visit, its comfortable, friendly, with a laid back atmosphere and if you like a real glass of wine, they dont fool around!

Catfish extra crispy, hushpuppies, coleslaw, homemade chili (all Riffs favorites), same friendliest waitresses as last three years, a pleasant cool breeze, and a gorgeous sunset; missin my best buddy at his favorite Volusia County, St. Johns River destination. RIP, Riff West... LOVE and miss you terribly! (P.S. - your same two feral cats are still here, and were well fed - they loved the catfish!) (P.S. - Your REW initials & bass clef sign are STILL visibly engraved on your favorite outdoor table on back deck!) :

*The food is delicious and for that they receive 5 Stars* I gave this spot 3 stars due to the uncomfortable atmosphere during my visit. Without warning our waitress engaged in a shouting match with a local "bar fly." The issue was handled poorly and without tact. Following the interruption there was no apology from any of the floor staff, it was as if this should be expected and the guest/customer must accept the disturbance. Not a bad spot to eat, but if you prefer a more professional atmosphere look elsewhere.

Dont judge by the looks from the outside, the food is absolutely amazing. Our family of 5 tried pretty much everything including gator bites, ponga, shrimp, crab cakes, catfish, frog legs, grilled chicken and all the sides were just mouth watering. Best hole in the wall experience in Florida by far. The service was the best yet..... We will definitely be back, long trip from Missouri but so worth it.

Terrific hometown restaurant. Sits right on the river and always full of locals. Good stop on a motorcycle ride. Though its a little hidden, almost underneath the bridge, its worth finding.

Service was good. They were out of a lot of stuff. I feel like they could have more history of the location and fish camp. Atmosphere was comfortable but could use some improvement.

If you are into fried foods then this place is for you. Food wasnt bad but wasnt great either. Catfish was rubbery and key lime pie was lacking taste and the crust was soggy.

Old Florida fish camp charm. Menu is expanded beyond fried food. Well executed and served in a friendly atmosphere with a great view of the water.
