Walk into Danburys farm-to-table hotspot, Market Place, and youll find a packed restaurant and bar filled with young professionals and couples. The farm-to-table theme is pulled through with a reclaimed wood and brick interior, and dividing wall separating the restaurant from the bar scene. Market Place encourages the use of local, organic and sustainability harvested food and the menu reads almost like map, noting the source of many ingredients. The 4-Hour Duck Fat-Braised Berkshire Pork Belly appetizer is delicious, but slightly salty and didnt have the melt-in-your-mouth goodness I expect from pork belly. Prosciutto di Parma Flatbread is covered with a thin layer of sweet fig balsamic that counters chunks of savory Vermont goat cheese. I didnt have the fortune of chowing down on the Stonington, CT Sea Scallops, but were told they were delicious. The scallops were a good size and sat on top of a spinach risotto with cauliflower crème, cranberry compote and a pear reduction. The Kobe Burger definitely must be one of the best in Southwestern Connecticut. Oozing with flavor, its has caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, provolone cheese and truffle aioli, all on top of a toasted brioche roll. Its served alongside a mini fry basket filled with sweet potato tater tots. Horseradish-Crusted Wild Scottish Salmon comes out with wheat berries, Brussels sprouts and an applewood-smoked bacon aioli. And of course, we cant forget about dessert. Deep-dish Pecan Pie immediately caught my eye and it didnt disappoint. Im still coming down from the sugar high from this dessert that came with scoop of vanilla bean gelato and cinnamon-whipped cream. The Verdict We left Market Place Kitchen and Bar stuffed to the brim. The food, with only a few missteps, delivered incredible flavors and lived up to expectations. I was a huge fan of the prosciutto di Parma flatbread, Stonington, CT sea scallops and horseradish-crusted wild Scottish salmon. Youll definitely be paying for it though. Entrees are in the high $20s/low $30s and appetizers in the mid teens. Come hungry and leave happy. Just make sure that you make a reservation. This Danbury hotspot is sure to stay that way for a while to come.

I really, really hate to write this review, because quite honestly, I find Market Place to be one of the best options for elevated classics here in greater Danbury. Unfortunately, our experience last Friday evening as a party of 6 was unworthy of the title of one of our favorite spots in town. I ordered their wedge salad for the first time ever. What I got was the sorriest excuse for a wedge Ive ever seen. It was a large plate of big, leafy lettuce and a plethora of regular grocery store variety tomatoes sliced thin, with a ton of ranch dressing thrown on top. The saving grace was a handful of pieces of smoked bacon with good flavor. When I asked if this was, indeed, the wedge, the server said it was "their version." I just wish they would have indicated as much on the menu, because this was a sad, tragic "wedge." Furthermore, I noticed that they take liberty of using quotations on lots of things on the menu, so why not say this was some strange, deconstructed version? A quick scan through other Yelp reviews for all of their locations indicates Im not the only one who thought this was a surreal wedge salad. Next, three of us ordered the special filet, which for $40, I would expect to be pretty stellar. What we got, while cooked properly, was so, so bland it made us all pretty sad. The promised balsamic glaze was hardly noticeable, and what was missing the most was simple salt and pepper for a good cut of meat. Sides were good as usual. Finally, our friend ordered a ravioli on the menu that had a "V" (vegetarian) symbol next to it (he is, indeed, vegetarian). When it came out there was prosciutto all over the plate (not mentioned at all in the description on the menu). The server explained that if a customer wants their dish to be vegetarian, they have to TELL them when ordering...even though meat was not mentioned on the menu. Im sorry, but what?! Makes no sense. As usual, the service was excellent, and the crowd and ambiance is always appropriately elevated. But wow, this visit was a big, fat, noticeable fail.

I would give no stars if I could. Out of 5 of us, my daughter in law and I got food poisoning last night at Marketplace..in Danbury, CT. It was from a quinoa salad which was sitting on top of bibb or boston lettuce...... My husband today called to speak to the owner to report this... and was told "hes not here....and a woman said hes in and out"...My husband left his phone number for someone to reach him to explain...but no call back after a whole day...which means the owner obviously doesnt want to talk about the fact that his food made us horribly, horribly ill. Not only will we never return....we will share our experience with others.... and I had no option but to call the health department and report this incidence....Its important this guy doesnt make other people sick. How does a person who owns a restaurant not care that 2 patrons got sick on the same food his employees handled and served? A slug....thats who! Beware....eat here at your own risk....If you get sick while eating here nobody is going to care that it happened to you.

Our server was friendly and attentive. She had someone in training following her around who was also very nice. I ordered the pineapple and jalapeno Mahi Mahi special, which tasted nice but had no pineapples or jalapenos (or similar flavors) on it. I asked for extra bbq reduction on the side, which came back as just a little tub of bbq sauce (I think the fish was just brushed with BBQ sauce as well). Crispy Brussels Sprouts and mashed potatoes were an A+. While our servers were nice, the helper guy was absolutely foul. He looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked for some butter, and was totally put out that we wanted something boxed to take home. I dont want to sound like it is all complaints because the food was great, but it did take way too long for our entrees to come out, especially for a Tuesday at 5:30. My dish did not come out hot so I am thinking the kitchen didnt time it well. If they can improve those things I mentioned it could easily have been a 5-star experience.

Good and Bad. Hostess tried to seat us at a table by the bathroom. We had a 6:15 Reservation and arrived at 6, there were many tables available. We asked if we could have a table two away she said yes reluctantly and rudely but we had to be out by 7:45. Service EXCELLENT Food mixed chicken flat bread GREAT. Protein parts of main meal, salmon, swordfish and filet mignon EXCELLENT..sides of spinach, broccoli rabe, black rice INEDIBLE!!! Lacked taste and overcooked. Pumpkin cheesecake for dessert lacked flavor and was overcooked. Told the waistress about all the above ...nothing, and no apology. At a meal of over $200 I would expect more. Barberries for a steak house WAY BETTER.. Farm to table: Purdys farmer and the fish, Terra-sole, Baileys, Bernards WAY BETTER Will NOT return and we go out every Saturday night and I am a part time caterer. Disappointed!!!

If you havent eaten here, you are waaaay off the pulse of danbury. This is by far the hottest new spot. Boasting awesome ambiance, great service, beautiful women, and by far the best food in town. BY FAR! The steaks are great, everything is flavored really well and cleverly concocted. The menu is so deep, and every dish my parties have ordered have come out perfectly. The steak sandwhich is my favorite, and its actually difficult to steer away from it at this point because it is THAT good. A lot of specials that are always changing, clearly there is a great mind in that kitchen cooking up that menu. If you havent been, Go. If youre going to Maggie Mcflys for dinner, or Jim Barborys you are completely blowing it. I use to eat at those places all the time, but theyre a joke compared to whats being served at marketplace.
