We arrived at Rei Do Gado for their dinner service. This place was an Amazing all you can eat Heaven. It was a quaint spacious place that was quite a shock. From the outside it doesnt look like much especially with the riffraff outside. But once you get inside you enter a whole different world! . As we were seated we noticed a huge white piano in the corner by the window along with perfect lighting for a romantic setting. The art on the walls were traditional family pictures that set a comfortable setting. The server Caseo came over and explained how "it works". There is a salt shaker sized wooden piece on the table one end was green and the other end red. When you would like to have the waiter bring meat, you keep the green end up. When you do not want them to stop, you put up the red end. The salad bar was amazing with lots of seafood varieties such as King Crab legs, Huge Shrimp, Muscles, Oyster salad and Fresh Smoked Salmon. Anyone say cheese? There were many cheese options such as fresh Bleu Cheese, Brie, Feta with many more selections that I do not know the names of but were completely YUMMY... types of soups and salad selections which I didnt try as I was overwhelmed with my favorites such as huge Artichoke hearts, sautéed mushrooms, Marinated beets, fried bananas and so many more options that I can not even remember! Did I mention this was ALL YOU CAN EAT? The service was impeccable! From the main waiter to the meat server and the water server never left my glass get to half full. This service and food was amazing and I would recommend this to anyone who asked. I am a True Fan of Rei Do Gado Brazilian Steak House! Thank you for such an awesome experience. Especially the touch of singing Happy Birthday in Portuguese while delivering the best Tiramisu I have ever had as well as the ending of the perfect evening of my espresso. The Brazilian Beer Xindu was also just perfect! Meat Selections: Pichaha: Top Sirloin cap Pichaha No Alho: Top Sirloin in garlic Filet Mignon: Wrapped in bacon & Prime tenderloin Maminha: Tri Tip Fraldinha: Skirt steak Costela De Boi: Beef ribs Costelinha de porco: Baby back ribs Linguica: Pork Sausage Coxa de Frango: Chicken drumsticks Lombo: Pork Loin Per Com Bacon: Turkey wrapped bacon Presunto E Abacaxi: Ham with pineapple Coracao De Galinha: Chicken hearts Pernil de Ovelha: Lamb Leg Coxao: Top Round Cupim: Hump of Brahma bull Alcatra: Whole sirloin

I have never written a review in my life but this place let me down big time. From out of town so if this is acceptable here in downtown San Diego then I just wont be visiting this establishment in the future. I feel I must say something though when the idea of this place comes to mind if you want dinner. Save your money and eat somewhere else!!!!! We went there for my brothers birthday and paid $145.00 (for two) for a small selection salad bar and a couple bites of several different kind of steaks, we couldnt understand the meat servers when you would ask them to repeat they would get exceedingly irritated. Now we arent stupid people and dont have bad hearing we dont understand mumble. the meat seemed undercooked and very fatty, now I know we could request the meat to be cooked longer but how can you approach some one who wont serve it to you right in the first place. Not to mention the meat came around every 10-15 min , slow in our opinion and when asked for the meat tome come faster we where ignored. For what we paid we felt that the service could have been a lot better, our waiter, wait a minute who was he? He introduced himself in the beginning and wasnt seen till it was time to pass out checks. Our glasses has to be asked to be refilled several times (drinking non-alcoholic drinks and there where maybe seven tables in use this night). 20% gratuity was graciously added to the check when our waiter was nowhere to be found for most the night. I cant find one good thing to say about our experience there. I wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. Would not have bothered me to pay the price if the food, service, and experience was worth it, sadly it was not. Could use a tip or two from a actual Brazilian grill/steakhouse.

Awesome place. The meat is great, but that is how most Brazilian places are. What makes this one stand out, to me, are a few other things. For starters, the seafood/salad bar. Normally, this would be an afterthought at a many Brazilian places, if it is even included. At Rei Do Gado, it is not only amazing in its own right (I could eat exclusively from it and not feel bad, if they werent waving delicious steaks around), but it was CLEAN. Buffets tend to get kinda gross as people are not careful with getting the food, and that leaves food all over the place and sometimes mixed with other foods. However, at this one, every time I went up there it was all wiped down and pristine-looking, as if they had just opened. This restaurant does not skimp on their staff either, there were a lot of people working there and they did a great job. We sat outside and there was a man on the street disrupting the dinner at one of the other tables, and the waiter asked the man to leave and the man got belligerent, but the waiter handled the situation politely and professionally and the man left. The caipirinha was delicious, they had a Brazilian lady there and it seemed that her exclusive job was to make the caipirinha by hand, which she did in a timely manner. I went with a group of four, two of which are very picky (and not very adventurous) eaters, and everyone walked away with maximum satisfaction from this restaurant.

This restaurant is right across the street from the popular Horton Plaza downtown. I liked the traditional storefront and the restaurant name translates to "King of the Herd"(cool name). This steakhouse features a huge seafood/salad bar that is all you can eat! I think I have entered a foodie paradise! I gorged on succulent crab legs, large shrimps, smoked salmon, salad and even quail eggs. The seafood salad bar was great enough but it did not end there, no sir. The big draw is the Brazilian steak meat and I had large portions of filet mignon, lambchops, chicken/cheese, ribeye and turkey sausage delicacies. I am not a huge eater but the food was so good my stomach miraculously enlarged to accommodate these tasty offerings. I also had to try out one of their wines from the huge racks on the walls and opted for the Salton Talentoro which is 60% Cabernet, 30% Merlot, 10% Tannat which is one of the best Brazilian wines. I also had the Brazilian Xingu Black Beer and they were both winners. The Brazilian waiter did an outstanding job and is the best dressed waiter I have encountered so far in San Diego. If all that wasnt awesome enough there was also a pianist playing many of my favorite tunes and I was told he is there most evenings. Yes, in case you have to ask, Rei Do Gado is the King of Brazilian restaurants in San Diego and maybe even all of southern california.

We went on a Sunday at about 4:30 pm. Maybe our experience was rare -- the friends we talked to have all had good things to say about this place. The food was great, dont get me wrong, but them bringing the steak out was few and far between. We basically never had a need for the red signal to stop them from offering us meat. We expected at least Fogo De Chao type of service here, but we had far less than that. When we arrived and were seated, the waiter apologized to us for being "behind." We also heard this "line" given to other patrons for about an hour after we arrived. When we arrived it was not very busy at all, but got busier as the evening went on. Approximately ten minutes after he told us he would get our drink order in (I told him at that moment we just wanted water) he brought us our waters. At Fogo De Chao, they make it a point for all of the waiters to be your waiter, but here at Rei Do Gado, the waiter couldnt even send someone else to bring us water. Later in the evening, luckily, someone else refilled our water glasses. I feel for the price, of $54.95 each, we certainly could have had much better service. Because of this experience, it will be difficult for us to go back and give them a second chance. :(
