Why do waiters at a buffet restaurant feel they need to be tipped the same amount as a sit down restaurant? We just left Sunrise Buffet which we went to for lunch at the last minute and only ate for 30 minutes, didnt even order a drink or have dessert. The waiter refilled my husband*s water once. At the end of our meal, we didnt get our bill so my husband went up to pay on his own. When he returned, the waiter put the little black tip tray with a couple of fortune cookies on our table and my husband placed a dollar bill on top of it, under the fortune cookies. As we were getting up to leave, the waiter came over, picked up the dollar bill and said,"Only one dollar?" He then threw it down and said, "You keep it!" My poor husband didnt know what happened and just walked away but he came back and placed the dollar bill in his hand saying, "I dont want your dollar!" We are still in disbelief about what just took place and thought that was very disturbing of that man! Can someone tell me if there was something wrong? All in all, their food was not good and the service was just plain sad! We will never return there and dont recommend it to anyone unless you like poor quality food and dont care about the service. Sunrise buffet is one of my favorite buffet in town went there yesterday brought my relatives and its my treat were 7 people the food is good i always excited every time i eat on this buffet. What sucks is the waitress one waitress is having a bad attitude at start she is not happy we choose and asked her kindly to our table and give us her faces reaction and after i paid my bill and put a tip she complaint about the $5 tip i give.. and she dont speak English i just understand what she try to say by still standing on our table and wiggling the cash tip. And my aunt add more dollars from her wallet and give it to the waitress . Total all is $14, but she still have a upset complaint face and still not happy... so rude... im a regular customer on this place and i like eating on this buffet is just this Chinese waitress just bothered me from the moment we left the buffet before i slept and till now... lol.. i need to move on... i almost talk to the manage but my uncle told me just let it go... one day she will encounter a customer that will complaint and change the way how she entertain her customers....

Ate here before and the service was decent. Went there for mothers day and the hostess seated us and there wasnt enough seat for us. After having everyone seated, there was another customer complaining about it being their table. It was so disfunctional! On top of everything, the waiter and waitress that day were RUDE!! Lack of service and when I was paying at the table my waiter was hovering over us instead of clearing up some tables and coming back for it. Even when after, I was generous enough to tip them for working on that day because I, myself knows what its like to be a waitress. I have never experience waitresses and waiters this disrespectful before! Last time Im eating there.

The place is nice as you walk in. However, the food is gross. I was vacationing in California and I stopped here with my family to eat and there was nothing for smaller kids. It was all Asian food. The orange chicken tasted really really bad. As if its been sitting there all day. The food was cold. My daughter had a stomach ache after eating here after eating one plate and she even threw up a little. I had to get up and leave and ask for a refund. I payed over a hundred dollars for me and my husband and 3 kids. The prices were outranging. Most buffets offer free refills, not this one each refill was another + $1.50. I do not recommend this place at all for a family dining.

Have eaten here for lunch at least a couple dozen times and dinner once. The food is consistently fresh tasting and just plain good. Have told several people about it and they have nothing but good to say about it. Was at a seminar in the area and myself and my group ended up eating there 3 days in a row. A guy I work with was talking just the other day about this great buffet he "discovered and it turned out to be this place. Have not witness any dirty plates to date like the unfortunate other reviewer. I guess it could happen . Lunch with a drink and tip is $10. Even took my 89 YO dad and he loved it. And he is hard to please.

If you are looking for some chinese food and want it quick you can stop here. Dont get me wrong its not a fast food restaurant but its there when you forget to make dinner. Its not the best but I guess that is what you are getting when you go to a buffet. I do give this place three stars because it does keep their food cold and hot. A bigger drink selection would be nice. Not everyone like pepsi products. Parking is horrible in that area, unless you are parking on the street that is your best bet. It could come a little down on the price because the food is not always the greatest, but some is pretty. At least the sushi is fresh!

As always a great experience. My only problem is I am trying to eat less for my health, so I made only one trip with 2 plates, and tried not to add everything I liked from there on my plate. I would say more or less I succeeded. This buffet offers sashimi, and they tasted extremely fresh. I enjoyed the prime rib roast, and several other items. I did return a second trip, but this was for dessert. I usually dont eat dessert, but wanted to comment on the ice cream cones. They are weird because they all have holes in the bottom. Does anybody know why?

Look, all the other places tend to carry a large volume of people that come and go. Food is left out for long periods of time. But not at Sunrise. Sunrise is smaller but has a greater quality of food. The others on Mira Mar Road are okay compared to Sunrise. I live in Mira Mesa and I drive all the way to Kearny just to eat there. Poor service? Its an all you can eat buffet? You holler and the waiter(ress) will come right over. Tip the Sushi chief and hes sure to make u something good! Never any problems.

BAD SERVICE, waitresses and cashier are arrogant.they dont know how to smile as if they are always on guard for some verbal confrontation. The lady who brings out thecook foods from the kitchen has a major attitude. These people thinks that they are in china. In their mind, the customers has to please them. If you are looking for a quality snow crab legs..pls do not go to this place..thair crab legs are SUCKS.. SERVICE IS VERY BAD...UNFRIENDLY AND UNWELCOMING/ARROGANT STAFF..

This is the WORST place I have ever been to. I literally went there just for the snow crabs and they only brought out one batch after I insisted and they were cold. The employees were sitting at a table eating food out of the pot. The lights went out halfway through our visit, and they insisted that we leave. When we were walking out, the waiter took the napkins off our table and gave them to the table next to ours. Overall, the place was messy and unsanitary.
