En mitad de la nada, en la península de Samoa que divide el mar abierto de la bahía / laguna de Eureka, este es un edificio bonito y grande donde uno esperaría que sirvieran pescado o marisco, dada la pinta y la ubicación, pero donde en realidad uno encuentra un enorme comedor, que a alguno le recordaría al de un colegio, o hasta al de un servicio de auxilio social, con mesas alargadas cubiertas por manteles de cuadritos blancos y rojos, donde sirven comidas básicas pero de buena calidad y extremadamente abundantes, con un menú único / obligatorio basado sobre todo en carnes La experiencia es buena, porque es un cambio refrescante después de tantos sándwiches y hamburguesas en tantos sitios. El día que vamos, un domingo a cenar, hay media entrada (pero el sitio es enorme), tomando sopa, ensalada, guiso de carne, costillas con salsa barbacoa y bizcocho de limón. Tomamos lo que podemos de eso y pedimos unas Sierra Nevada para acompañar Todo está bueno, nos tratan bien y nos sale muy barato. A la familia le parece una muy buena opción, en una zona donde proliferan los sitios de comida rápida intensivos en plástico. Viva lo básico, si está así de bien hecho

Our family eats here everytime we are in Samoa or Eureka. It is a very neat place. I felt the need to write this review because of the two previous negative reviews (left by Negative Nancys!) There food is all you can eat. You sit and eat family style just like the loggers did in the past with red and white checkerboard table clothes. We think it is fun and a place you can take your whole tribe of children and feel right at home. The menu changes everynight. They serve one meal with all of the courses and fixings including dessert. There bread is delicious/to die for/fantasic you name it. (YOU DONT EAT WITH STRANGERS) unless you want to I guess. Which would be nice if you didnt have any body else? Its all you can eat. They are nice and friendly. Its an easy place to find. The food is good, there is a gift shop in the parking lot. They have really neat pictures (old black and white ones, including neat panoramic ones.) They have a mini-museum of logging equipment, saws, miniatures, etc. Its logging/old time themed. The building is made out of old materials and I like that. Im actually going there tomorrow night for dinner :) Im taking my Fiance there for dinner for our 1 year anniversary. The only negative things would be: If you dont like what they are serving then you wont want to eat there that night. This is because they only serve one style meal (but you do have some choices.) We dont have one in Redding Its not the cheapest but its all you can eat, its home cooked meal style, great atmosphere. Probably not the place to eat if you are stuck up, a prude, easily offended by places that dont treat you like royalty. Not to be rude or anything, I just dont want to give you people the wrong impression, I know there are people out there that really get offended by little things easily and I dont want someone getting offended. We live in Redding, CA also.

Not having gone to the Samoa Cookhouse for many years I thought it would be fun to take my family there for dinner on Saturday night. BIG MISTAKE. When we first got there and entered the restaurant we all noticed how hot it was in the building. Next we were seated and eagerly awaited our meal. The soup was great but after that the meal went downhill fast. Even the salad was not very good and thats hard to mess up. The main course was roast port and chicken cacciatore along with red potatos and peas. To say these were not good would be an understatement. The food was awful and not what we expected. This was not the Samoa Cookhouse I remembered from years ago. Even the famous bread was not that great. I also do not remember having to constantly ask for things to be brought to the table, maybe I am wrong but what I remember is the food was just brought to your table as it was needed.

Im a little surprised with phils comment. Ive always loved going there. Crackel barrel? This is a legitament cookhouse. As far as price goes thats standard for a buffet, which in essence is what it is. Only you get great service and friendly ppl. I have gone there many times throughout my life and have always loved the food the service as well as how welcomed you really are. If you like eating home styled meals, and a warm rustic atmosphere. I would def suggest it. If you eat vegetarian food, or just like a more classy or formal dining. Its probably not the place for you. The funny thing is if you want something more formal your looking at 20$ a plate or more. So in conclusion Phil is your typical never really happy with anything, always find something to complain about kind of person. Man, i just cant stand the Phils of the world!¡

We came here for a retirement luncheon. The outside is deceiving because its just a plain red building, just a sign noting the Samoa Cookhouse by the road. This is a must visit place for a few reasons, its a historic landmark, the lumber museum (its part of the restaurant), the food (its pretty good) and the house made bread. This place is perfect for any type of family style banquet. They have 3 private rooms and food is served family style, a very communal way of life that weve stepped so far away from with technology and work. Its so much fund sharing food, passing platters of food down the table as we fill our plates. I wish we had time to have breakfast here. Their ordering process for kids is interesting because they charge by age. If you like the house made bread, you can buy a loaf togo if they have any available.

I arrived here in the late AM just before lunch. There was a large group of Seniors in the adjoining room and my small party were the only ones in the large room as you enter. Only waitress on duty was snotty, didnt know anything when asked and the fellow at the register had to answer any questions about the area. Anything historical is interesting to me and I understand the concept of "Cookhouse" when the huge lumber camps operated way back when. I enjoyed the visit, overall, as this is the only one of its kind. The food was okay, museum small and typical of the many timber museums on the coast though the wall black and whites were fascinating of the timber heydays (big men, big saws and lots of big trees!). Their hard work makes one appreciate what we have today. Cookhouse could use friendlier, more knowledgeable help.

We have always had heard raves about this place but our first visit will be our last after seeing what we did. We were chatting about what happens to the leftovers. Well we found out and immediately became skeptical about where our meal originated. The waitress took our leftover meat and placed it on the counter then a second took it to another customers table. Please know my husband had used his potato to swipe up gravy and bits of the meat had been cut off. THEY HAD NO CLUE THEY WERE EATING OUR LEFTOVERS! This seems awfully unsanitary and neglectful for the health and safety for their customers!
