When we noticed that El Rancho had been purchased and renovated by new owners, we decided to go check it out a few weeks ago. I wasnt going to post a review, but after 3 weeks, it was still bugging me enough to post it now. The waiter was good and the food was decent, but we only had burgers since there wasnt a big variety on the menu. We arent beer drinkers, so the microbrews werent of interest. What turned us off, and almost had us walking out the door before we ever sat down, was the hostess...if thats what you call her. An older, dark haired woman with too much lipstick was on duty and was very sternly telling an older gentleman in front of us to "just sit down and stay there". Not sure if it was her husband, or an employee, but I certainly hope it wasnt a customer. We waited while she lectured him, and then thought she would seat us. No...she waited for a waitress to come help her find the table of 8 she had ready to seat..and who had disappeared. Turns out they got tired of waiting and were in the bar. This was at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon with less than 10 tables in the entire restaurant occupied. We were about to leave when this woman finally gave us her attention. She got menus, and said she hoped we didnt disappear too before she got back. Trying to be funny, but by that point we were beyond funny. The food and menu were not enough for us to ever go back. What a shame, as El Rancho has been a Colorado landmark since I was a kid (a long time ago)...even used to be the El Rancho exit.

Dissapointing. Weve been to this place a couple of times and it has been alright. We tried to go there for Valentines Day for a casual night, walked in, had to ask the hostess where we could sit and she said we could be seated at a table or the bar is open seating. We walked over and sat in the bar, right as we sat the bartender walked over to tell us that they were not serving food in the bar and we would have to get a table on the other side. So we walked back to the hostess stand to get a table in the other side. Waited until the hostess came over and she asked nonchalantly, "how can I help you"..... We informed her that they were not serving food at the bar and we would like a table. With which she responded, "oh we arent serving food anywhere". Then she continued to point to a table of only 9 people, trying to explain how a big group came in and cleared them out. Doesnt make much sense considering that its a huge restaurant and a small group of 9 was way too much for them to handle, on the busiest restaurant night of the year...

My husband and I went to El Rancho excited that it had re-opened. We were sorely disappointed! Perhaps if we had gone to have craft beer instead of dinner, it would have been a different experience. We knew we were in trouble when my husband asked if they had prime rib specials (as they once did)...the waiter responded with "We do have ribs." Seriously? We ordered fried chicken and my husband ordered a salad with his dinner. The salad came after our dinner was served. And what about our dinner? The chicken was mediocre at best...too dry. The mashed potatoes were good...I ran out of iced tea 1/2 way through dinner...7 waiters, 3 filled tables and no one in sight to get a refill. Our waiter was surly and just seemed like he was not happy to be there. I will say that everyone else seemed friendly but our waiter and the food would not warrant us going back again. P.S. What happened to their specialty of sweet bread?

Starting to slide... back to "EL RONCHO" (from a Colorado native). Upon it resurrection in 2015 it started out great; Food, brews, service etc. Been there half a dozen times, but last couple been anything but keen. The jalapeno beer - undrinkable... Mr. Brew-aster why ruin your rep with that caustic mess? Your Oktoberfest Martz brew was a definite money beer! The standards are forgettable. On the last visit, a least one item on each of our three meals was over seasoned. The managers (a dude that looks like the dishwasher) reply? "Its not us"... Huh? Some apology, I think he doubles as the brew-master. Maybe a separation of duties are in order? Stick to brewing and hire someone to run the restaurant. Psychedelic taste buds? Go there youll be rewarded.

Horrible service. We had to wait about 30 minutes before anyone waited on us. One lady said she would bring us waters but never did. Their own brewed beer is pretty good. Maybe they need to close the restaurant and focus on brewing beer and selling it. We ordered the patty melt, which was pretty good, but their Cole slaw is horrible. We also ordered the fish and chips and it was the worst fish n chips Ive ever had. It was like Wheres Waldo to find the fish. It was all batter. Their fish n chips cost $14 bucks. Pretty disappointing. Your money is much better spent somewhere else. Just drive 15 more minutes further into Denver and eat at one of the chain restaurants there, youll be much happier.

Ive got to say, I was pretty hugely disappointed in El Ranchos new venture. The service was pathetically bad. We waited at the bar about 7 minutes before we were even acknowledged. When we were served, it took 5 more to get the beer flights. The beers were just okay. When it came time to pay, it was really annoying. After sitting there for more than 5 minutes I finally found the bartender and gave her my card. No joke, she walked around for about 7 or 8 minutes with my card in her hand. It was so annoying. Just swipe the damn thing so I can leave! All in all, it was a pretty mediocre experience. Not sure if Ill be back.

Very disappointing. The food was not very good at all. One of our party ordered the fish and chips, which came out...soggy, if you can believe that. My wifes salad was made entirely of wilted lettuce. My nachos, consisted of a plate of limp chips with a very sparse drizzle of veveeta cheese. Sadly, the beer was not much better; two out of three of our beers were flat. Not sure how that happens at a place that brews the beer right there. We didnt complain but the server should have had a clue when she cleared our table and pretty much none of our food was eaten and the two flat beers were nearly full. Sorry, we wont be back.

Everything youd expect of a great brewery. Weve watched El Rancho change hands several times over the years and when it was purchased again in 2015 we were cautiously optimistic that this one would stick. We were very happy to see that a significant investment was made in the space and that it was outfitted as a real, high quality brewery with substantial capacity. The beer is excellent and our last dining experience there exceeded expectations. Outdoor seating is also excellent. I feel confident that this historic Evergreen landmark will remain a landmark for a long time to come.
