Clam Chowder was like a thick gravy with a few clams in it. Even a lot of Tobasco couldnt help it taste better. The cheesy steak fries had bacon on them that must have been cooked a week ago and left on the counter. The pasta with crab was alright. All in all ... pub food at very expensive prices. I can see spending top dollar on the coast but only for quality cuisine. The food can be excused but the service could not. Our waitress, Mindy, does not have the personality for this profession. As none of us was very hungry, and wanted to share, she seemed disturbed by this decision. There were only 2 occupied tables in her section. The woman at the other table accidentally spilled her drink. Mindy was cleaning the table next to her and upon seeing the accident happen, continued what she was doing. When she went back into the kitchen, claiming to get a towel, she returned with our dinners. She then returned to the kitchen to get a towel. This poor woman had to sit in her spill until it was convenient for Mindy to clean it up. Very very poor customer service. If she was unable to clean it up herself, why didnt she ask her co-worker to help? On our way out, Mindy was doing the princess wave. Really? ! BTW, the owners of Szabos might consider a general uniform for their staff. A raggy t-shirt and khaki shorts dont do much to relay a sense of professionalism.

My boyfriend and I stopped in for his birthday dinner. Upon arriving there was a please wait to be seated sign. We stood at the entrance for 2-3 mintues without being greeted. I decided to seat myself at that point. We sat at the table for 5 minutes and no one came to give us menus or ask if we would like a beverage. We had to ask for the menus ourselves. For a steakhouse I expected good steak and bbq but was very ashamed when we recieved less than average food. My boyfriend ordered the 11 oz steak which was charred on one half yet under done on the other half. Not sure how that happens. I had the bbq chicken which was so dry I could barely swallow it without problem. The mixed veggies the entrees came with were terrible. Half undercooked, half overcooked and they were luke warm. The server did not come back to check in on us, instead she chatted away with a bar patron. When I made clear eye contact to signal we wanted service, she ended up moving behind one of the beams so we could no longer see her. We had to go up to the bar and ask for beverage refills. Considering the meals were $18+ I would have expected far more in the food quality and far better service. I would never recommend nor return to this establishment. It was the worst meal I have every paid for accompanied by the worst service ever revceived.

First of all we will be making a return trip here. Melissa made our evening! What a sweet gal - she thought of everything. We never even had to ask. When our go-to steak spot began routinely turning out over cooked and mediocre food, we went looking for a new spot and we found Szabos! My husband likes steak/prime rib on the rare side and most often resteraunts will say they dont have it or they send something out thats cooked through. Szabos nailed a beautiful rare to medium rare steak! And yes they were prepared to serve him a medium rare piece of prime rib! I had the halibut fish and chips which was delicious! Also served to our party were the Ruben and the Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches which were both enormous and reportedly very satisfying. We also ordered three kids meals. The kids meals were a good sized portion for older kids - all children were full and content. Szabos is 30 minutes closer to camp, less expensive, and a hundred times friendlier. Overall we are so pleased we will never wait in line at our former usual spot again. Well simply pop over to Szabos!

I hate that I dont like the food here, except for one salad, because the bar is great and the service is good. First time in I ordered a crab salad and it rocked. Next time was the Chicken Fried Steak which was partially burned outside with stringy meat inside. Then I had the Philly steak sandwich which was huge, but the meat was so wet/greasy that it made the bun too soggy to eat. This morning I ordered biscuits and gravy. I was served white bread and gravy. White bread! And the gravy tasted like I was eating raw flour. My companion tried it and said I should complain. I figured any cook that would substitute white bread for biscuits wouldnt be interested in my feedback. Ill have a beer and maybe an appetizer in the future, but will save my big dining dollars for a place that wants to be known for good food.

Long time lover of Szabos...but this morning...not so great. Great food, but the OWNER treated my mother and myself terribly! He was cooking and serving before lunch, and was very sarcastic to us, and didnt offer any refills of water (my mom finally went to the counter, and they were not busy at all!). He brought the bill and said.., one ticket, RIGHT? Emphasis on "right"...I would have been afraid to say anything else! The topper was...I rounded up the bill, and he never even offered ANY change! Im a good tipper...but he gave himself a handsome tip! It may be the last trip I make there! So sad, his bad attitude made our food much less enjoyable. Ive brought lots of people there. The rest of the crew are awesome! Bet they dont enjoy working for him!

We had an excellent experience at Szabos tonight! A recommendation from a local who takes her out of town guests there. With four kids we are skeptical if places really are "family friendly". But with "kid friendly" written in neon I was pretty sure it was safe. They totally nailed it. Booster seats, paper placemats, color crayons, cute plastic kids cups with lids and straws, kids menu and we got nothing but love. Waiter didnt oversell us, telling us that the little one wouldnt need a meal because the portions were so large. So true! We had everything we needed when we needed it. Thank you! And a special blessing to the couple that bought us dinner. It meant so much to us.

My husband and I decided to try Szabos after reading great reviews. Its close to Yaquina Head lighthouse. Easy access to highway 101 and not down in the congested Bay front. Bonus! Great service. The best fried oysters Ive ever had. House made delicious cocktail sauce (we bought some to take home, it was that good). I think nothing on menu was over $15.95. Chowder was pretty good, not the best ever but good. Halibut fish and chips delicious. Large portions. I couldnt eat all my oysters. (Leftovers were just as good reheated later for evening snack). The margarita I ordered was ultra tart and limey, but it paired perfect with the rich fried oysters.

Service - great, waitress made a pot of decaf coffee for us, very little wait time Coffee - tasted like paint thinner Steakhouse - was steak even on the menu? Seafood - seemed to be frozen, not fresh (on the coast, we expect fresh for it to be a seafood place) Taste - like frying oil; couldnt taste the shrimp at all Cost - pretty decent until you account for serving size (5 pc shrimp = $10.95) Smell - like urine "Kid-friendly" sign - when is a bar kid-friendly? We assumed it was more of a family place from the road and that sign, but were surprised. We would have left, but we were starving.
