I visited Petaluma yesterday and stopped in at Water Street Bistro for lunch. It was a waste of time and money. Despite the fact that they had five people working there, including two young women ringing up orders, the line was VERY slow at the counter. After 15 minutes I finally reached the top of the line only to have another staffer take an order from the guy in back of me! I asked the girl what the chicken dish was. She explained in great detail and then told me they were out of it! So I ordered a glass of wine and a bowl of crab chowder. Rather than simply pouring the wine right then and there, I had to sit and wait another fifteen minutes for my order to be presented. How hard is it to put soup in a bowl? The soup was the most TASTELESS bowl of paste I have ever eaten, and I am not a super picky eater! I have eaten better soup out of a can. It was difficult to discern any crab, but there were lots of potatoes. I only ate half the soup before I decided that tasteless calories were simply not worth it. Luckily, the bread was good. I was tempted to complain but I had already wasted enough time, and the counter line continued to look more than sluggish. Needless to say, I did not leave a tip--they had a tip bowl at the counter but I believe in tipping AFTER service is rendered and the service was terrible! My bill was almost $13, for very poor service and lousy food. I will not return.

Ive lived in town my whole life, but Id never visited the Water St Bistro before today. Either because I didnt have time (when reviews were good) or I didnt want to (when the reviews were bad) that changed today. The chef they have now is wonderful. And I can tell you this, I plan on returning. The food is some of the best Ive ever had. The chowder was perfect and full of chunks or REAL crab, the bread was warm, crusty and amazing. My salad was perfect (not too much dressing, not too little), my sandwich was so full of flavor it was ridiculous (mouth-gasm) and everyone was very very nice. And the atmosphere was super homey.

While other places nearby said they were open in the afternoon but werent, this place was closed, but fed me and my guests. They even threw in a dessert. They were supernice, and made the afternoon memorable. Outdoor seating was great, view was great, and I am super grateful to them for being so accommodating. Oh, and we tried a few of their soups and they were super tasty (esp. the clam chowder and fish chowder). The pineapple upside down cake was AMAZING.

The place was partially full and it took over an hour to get 2 salads. All the tables around us got their food, including those who sat after we did. Food is ok, but no excuse for an hour delay for salad. The waitress kept telling us the place was full and they hadnt forgoten about us. Not even an appology or smile were provided from staff. Had an appology been given, I wouldve been ok with the wait.

I met a friend there for lunch on Nov 10. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. The bread for the "sandwich" came all broken up in several pieces, before I picked it up. My friend dined on some of the brown bread served on the side and found a piece of string just under 2 inches long in it. On the plus side, the bottled lemonade was pretty good. Pretty funky experience.

Do not order anything that is made by them, or really anything at all. I ordered a sandwich and the pastrami tasted dry. The bread was wet (almost seemed like it was microwaved.) Also, we got a chocolate covered strawberry and it was old. Not a very pleasent experience. We also waited pretty long for such a simple order.

Bread Pudding Strata was SO good. Waffle was basic but very tasty. Coffee cake, Chocolate scone, and Blueberry Muffin were all baked to perfection. Fresh fruit was very fresh. The staff was attentive and pleasant. We just stumbled upon this place while passing thru. Kid friendly breakfast and very local cafe.

The Bistro has the best french pastries in town and the daily quiche is perfectly flaky and light. They have a small bottled beer selection and serve mimosas with the proper amounts of OJ and bubbles. I highly recommend the "special waffles" with a cappuccino and a beer, great way to start a Sunday.

Id drive up here from San Jose on weekends just to eat here! Their main dishes (usually choice of 2 or 3) are extraordinary and beat most fine dining French restaurants I have been to. Also tasted their soups and salads which are awesome too! Love also the slices of bread they provide for the table.

With lunch at the Waterstreet Bistro we, two artists, were served the most magnificent latte (in a typical French bowl) we have ever seen, a work of art with a FEATHER of foamed milk. It looked so perfect that I dipped my finger in to make sure it was not plastic.

Its counter service and the decor is vintage yard sale cluttered (very Sonoma Co.), but the food is great and they have an outdoor section looking over the river. Order anything and take it to the patio and this is probably one of the best values within 100 miles.

Best pastries in town and best views of water, people, dogs and birds. Lovely way to start a day or stop by for brunch. Parisian inspired as owner visits there yearly and a Parisian lady created many recipes.

Great local place. Eclectic decor. Best pastries ever. Friendly. Hard to find behind building that Google maps shows. Go down side street next to building to the right on 100 north. Worth finding it.

This little gem is filled with great food and even better staff. We stopped in on our way from Russian River to San Francisco and we were so glad we fought for parking to eat here!

Lovely in every way. Stephanie is a saint and the bistro is basically a public service. Also, everything is delicious. And the ambiance is at once sophisticated and wholesome.
