While food was excellent, the service was a bit disorganized. Despite there being unreserved 4 person table, my friend and I were made to wait for a 2 person table to open. We agreed with a couple behind us to share a table with us and approached the lady at the front, she said she was unsure if that would be OK and that she needs to check! In the meantime, because it took a while to get attention, the couple behind us left in frustration and another couple came behind us, who ended up getting seated at the 4 person table while we were still waiting. It took a little over an hour for food to arrive. The server was polite. The food was excellent and the attention to detail was commendable yet the pleasure of it was marred by the seating extravaganza, having had waited so long during the lunch hour, and having to rush through the meal. It appears that Maurice could benefit from a different seating policy, better trained staff and some help in the kitchen? Or perhaps the customers should expect that this place takes time and not to expect to be done in less than 1.5h. I jokingly called this a Western type food with Eastern type service. I do plan to come again when I have more time and patience at disposal.

We loved the place and the food. Everything was tasty and top notch quality but we will not be returning. We found it very overpriced. For two of us, the total was $78 including tip and we left hungry. We each had a glass of wine, shared one appetizer, we each ordered a smorrebrod (one slice of toast with stuff on it), and dessert. Portions were small. I guess its fine if you just want some tea and a pastry but we were looking for a full meal and apparently went to the wrong place for it. For that price we wouldve at least liked to leave with satisfied tummies. Like I said, everything was delicious. Just not worth it. We know many places in Portland where we can go instead for an amazing and satisfying meal for less than that.

Maurice is a quaint, petite café in metro Portland, owned and operated by experienced chef and owner, Kristen D. Murray, whose background is Norwegian and joy is French cuisine, both reflected in the mood and menu of Maurice. Kristen serves ethereal brunch and bistro-style food…immensely flavorful and brilliantly creative…with an assortment of mouth-watering pastries and a select list of wines, Champaign, and teas (served in iron teapots). The ambiance is Nordic and Country French…simple and white. The staff is consummate and every dish is prepared and served to perfection by all measure. You need no reservations to give this charming, cozy, and welcoming luncheonette a try.

I really like this the concept: a french inspired lucheonette place with an emphasis on pastry and sweet treats. The inside is fresh an cute with white washed walls and little seating booths. We liked that they have extended hours at the weekends- who doesnt like a little late night dessert! We just got a selection of snacks- a couple of oysters, the quiche and salad and warm lemon pudding cake, delicious. Looking forward to sampling the Black Pepper Cheesecake next time!

We went there on 11:00am which supposed to be the business hour. However it seems like they changed it without notice to 11:30am. After 30mins at the front door, we finally get into there with nobody in front of us. However, nobody gave us a glass of water or even any attention while all other guests being taken care of. I would not put it a extent to say this is sort of discrimination, but It is such an unhappy experience regardless how the food tastes.

Absolutely fantastic. Close your eyes and you are taken directly to France. The food is incredible, with attention to detail leaving unique flavors for you to discover. Nostalgic in the extreme. Server was prompt, warm, and attentive. Tea was of high quality, and the desserts crafted with the touch of a master. Look for a homely, clean ambience with service and cuisine that feels like you are dining at a dear friends. I will be returning.

My favorite place to eat in downtown PDX. Kristin, the owner/chef is very talented. Keep in mind the place is very small and Kristin is the only chef so sometimes things take awhile, but patience is rewarded with thoughtful and tasty food. Loved a recent tart with pear and pepita brittle and I adore the quiche, which is like eating a light cloud of egg. Go to Maurice expecting a leisurely, pleasant meal and you wont be disappointed.

A very darling luncheonette only a stones throw away from Powells Books. I stopped by late in the afternoon and had a zippy and tangy Meyer Lemon Souffle. So GOOD. The flavors danced on my palate and the texture was silky smooth. YUM! I will go back to try their lunch.

I dream about the food here, and if I lived in Portland would be a regular. Light, whimsical, thoughtfully & artfully composed, created with the freshest ingredients - each dish is a little treat for all of the senses.

Simple and elegant food in a charming space. What more do you want? Great desserts and pastries? Well, Maurice has those too. My only criticism is that I wish it was open later and on weekends!

The food here is wonderful. Delicate and well prepared. The dining room is bright and cozy. Its like a mini vacation to the French countryside right next to Powells.

Poor service - asked for scone warmed twice and came back ice cold. The cherry and chocolate pastry was great but the lack of effort in service ruined the experience
