I have to agree with Rarely have I been compelled to write . . . (below). My wife and I had made plans based on a first-up web search and reviews for a celebratory evening. She had Osso Bucco, not too bad but overpowered by the sauce, I had lobster bisque and the Lobster Thermador (chunks of lobster in a cream sauce w/mushrooms). Bisque okay but not great, the lobster thermidor was dried out, chewy and fibrous, not at all moist or tender, I did not finish that $90 dish having only eaten about half the lobster and none of the accompaniments. I had the impression it was some leftover that was used for my dish. The restaurant was having specials on lobster so we anticipated a fine dining experience . . . atmosphere good but food bad and service nominal at best. Sommelier fair, although I had ordered a Piesporter (I happen to like w/seafood and I believe a very under-rated wine, was not the most expensive on the list) and I was left with the impression he didnt particularly care for my choice. Seating hostess very nice and accomodating. All in all, a great potential spoiled by bad food and mediocre service, $240 for two (have to give one star in order to publish, would give zero if possible). We had eaten more-or-less on a whim the night before at the Bluewater Grill nearby, less costly and much more enjoyable, I had the lobster there: very tender. I will go back to Bluewater before I ever consider 21 Oceanfront again.

Very poor service and mislabeled meat. I ordered the N.Y steak, but did not receive this cut of meat. I received a very tough part of the sirloin cut. I asked our waiter to check with the chef, and he came back in a very condescending attitude. He basically ignored us for the rest of the evening. When our bill came, I reviewed it and gave it to our waiter. When the credit card form came to sign, it was for over $120 more than our bill. When I asked to see a copy of our bill, he huffed and finally left to retrieve it. I pointed out to him that the bill was significantly different than the credit card form, and he exploded. I asked to speak with the floor manager, and the waiter really came unglued. He asked if I wanted him to do 50 pushups or get on one knee and ask for forgiveness. When the manager finally came after this scene, he listened to our story and apologized. I wanted to pay for the meal, but he insisted that it was on the house. The lobster bisque and the asian pear salad were, however, wonderful. Poor service at a restaurant of this caliber should not be allowed.

Rarely have I been compelled to write a review of a restaurant, but after spending more than $300 for a dinner for four at 21 Oceanfront last night, this review is warranted. I was prepared for the high prices, and I was equally prepared for an exceptional meal with exceptional service. Ive had better meals and much better service at Cocos and Mimis, to say nothing of the meals and service we get at our local favorites. Our dinner at 21 Oceanfront was to be a celebratory dinner. This morning, I woke up feeling ripped off and angry. I confess, too, that I read the ratings, and optimist that I am, ignored the less-than- favorable ones. I will never recommend this restaurant. In terms of meal quality and service, you could do as well or better at Dennys.

Absolutely fell in love with this place. With the service, the atmosphere and my three great Waiters. Roberto, Jordan, and Luke. I do prefer male servers dressed in black tuxedos. (Just like them) So formal and classy. These 3 employees really took care of us the entire night. From the moment we walked into the door, I knew I was in a very classy upscale restaurant. I enjoyed the privacy and soft piano music in the background. Our food was excellent. Biggest lobster I ever had on my plate. Great place to go and celebrate after one of my singing or dancing shows or simply for a great romantic dinner. Nice variety of hard liquor, wines and Cocktails. Highly recommended and definitely coming back soon. Great view of Newport Beach.

Clam chowder was amazing. Lobster ravioli? It was all right. It seemed like it was ground meat, not chunks of lobster like I expected, and there wasnt a distinct taste of lobster. The tomato sauce was also a bit overpowering. The atmosphere was nice. Staff was very attentive and accommodating. But thats what I would expect for the really high prices. All in all, it was pretty good, though the price-to-benefit ratio will probably keep me away in the future. Edit: someone else mentioned this too from an earlier review, so I wonder if its a theme with them. They were out of lobster tail when we were there. Seems like such a major item for an upscale restaurant to run out of on a regular basis.

My wife and I recently entertained two very important clients at this historic landmark and WOW what a delightful experience. The staff was very professionial and the service was exceptional. We ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs, the most amazing crab legs anywhere, and several other entrees which were simply delicious. We enjoyed two bottles of Silver Oak and finished dinner with one of their famous chocolate souflees. We were seated in a booth with a view of the ocean and sunset. I would highly recommend 21 Oceanfront to anyone, and will definitely return with family, friends and clients.

Ambience was fantastic and staff was attentive and professional. Food was awful! Very plain presentation and got the impression it was anything but fresh. Had a spinach salad and the spinach was great but there was some soggy tasteless additives...not even sure what it was but it detracted from the salad. Had a seafood trio with capellini pasta. Absolutely no seasoning or character to this $41 dish and the seafood tasted stale. finished off with flour less chocolate cake and this was stale and tasteless as well. Wil not be back!

My wife and I treat ourselves here a few times a year and it is worth every penny or dollars. Try their Maryland Crab Cakes a d the Mussels are always excellent. Do you like a fine Caesar Salad, this is one of the best Ive eaten. Although I dont eat steak often, I cant resist their Steak Diane and you shouldnt either. If fish is your thing, their Baseball Cut Swordfish will win you over. The service is the best. If youve eaten this far, get some dessert and some Cognac and then drift home savoring the evening.

terrible service, and so-so food! our food took over 50 minutes to arrive at our table, and the fish arrived cold, and then took 15 more minutes for a replacement, which was equally cold! the floor manager was arrogant and the waiter did his best to avoid coming to our table (there were 4 adult diners). even mcdonalds is better than 21 oceanfront!!!!

21 Oceanfront is a classic seafood establishment in CA. I have always gotten excellent service & great food. Tonight I ordered a lobster tail & crab cake. The crab cakes are the best in the city. The lobster tail was excellent. Skip the mac & cheese , the potato was great. Will come again!

Came here for my birthday. Absolutely loved it! The bar has a nice view of the ocean. The prime rib eye was perfectly cooked and delicious. The wait staff was extremely nice, attentive and very accommodating. I personally think its better than Mastros. Will be coming back.
