What an enjoyable restaurant! We chose to sit on the gorgeous patio in the upstairs dining/bar area. We arrived in time for Happy Hours specials so we ordered off the regular menu for dinner and we also had a couple of HH specials. On the Happy Hour menu we ordered the Clam Chowder, a Margarita and she had Rum something or other. Both drinks were good but the Clam Chowder ($4 on Happy Hour menu) is the best I have had anywhere (I ordered a second bowl and still could have eaten more. Great Clam Chowder! I had Fish for my meal (I ordered Cod because I like the flavor of Cod). I asked for their coconut rice instead of french fries (the rice is very good). My dinner came with their coleslaw which was a bit too bitey for my taste (I think they add some horseradish in it). She had a Lobster and Crab salad that she loved so we were both very happy with our visit (oh, she loved the Clam Chowder also). The view is exceptionally nice as the restaurant is right on the water; as we ate upstairs on the balcony we had a great view (also the day was warm and the sky was clear; a beautiful blue). People around us were very approachable (I am quite a friendly guy so I like that). The place had a good crowd both in the restaurant and at the bar. The employees were well trained and were at our table right away for anything that we wanted. Esperanza was our waitress. She was very good at her job; quite attentive to us and her other tables. The manager (John) was pleasant; I called him over to commend him, his staff and the Clam Chowder (geesh I wish I had a bowl of that right now). Other staff of note: Juan the server was very helpful. Eric the greeter upstairs also did a good job. I enjoyed talking with Ryan and Tom downstairs; very polite and seem to be very smart guys. I think you will really like this Newport Landing Restaurant as it is very good for many reasons. The restaurant is additionally set in a great location; surrounded by a lot of interesting places so you can enjoy time before and after your visit. We have returned to this restaurant because we really like it. I think you will also. Have fun. Hope this helps your choices... best regards cmilton111

I used to LOVE this place but my visit on May 6 was aweful. We ordered oysters on the half shell and steamed clams. The oysters arrived and my fiance mention that it tasted off. I put one in my mouth and immediately spit it out. It was nasty. We returned it and told them to have the staff check their oysters, and they should try ours. The waitress said she would tell the kitchen. ...then our clams arrived. They were basically sitting in hot water - no flavor. Before leaving, we asked for the manager to warn him about the oysters. He took the oysters off of our tab (which was not the point). We also told him the clams tasted bad - no flavor. He said "Oh, when you asked for no garlic or butter on your bread, they thought you meant for the meal as well". ??? Really??? A couple of hours later my fiance was violently ill for hours. I called the manager to let him know and he said he would take the oysters off of the menu. He said he would let the owner know. He also said he would call back to see how we were doing. I never heard back from him. I would not be writing this bad review had he called us back. We just dont want anyone else to get sick. NOTE TO OTHERS: If your raw seafood tastes or smells off - DON"T SWALLOW IT!! Forget manners, dont get sick.

This was my second time and absolute last time visiting this restaurant, I was seated and ignored for 23 minutes before even getting my beverage. I also ordered a non-alcoholic beverage that came to me and was watered down from sitting up at the bar to long. When I received my meal, the meal was luke warm and was somewhat bland, I was very disappointed in our server as well as the kitchen staff who prepared our food. When I expressed my concern for the meal, I was given a rude response and it was insinuated that the food was hot when it was brought to the table and I let my food get cold. I was once a pleased customer prior to this experience. I will have to spread the word about this establishment and support a new business after this horrendous dining experience, I reached out to speak with a manager regarding my dining experience and was never called back. This saddens me greatly and I strongly encourage people to seek another dining option when in Newport Beach California.

My family and I which made up a party of 6 dined at the resturaunt last night. Reservations were at 7:00 pm, we had to wait just a few minutes to be seated. Our waitress was attentive and very good. My wife had a glass of wine and myself a martini. Now to the food, we all had the New England Clam Chowder, good but not even warm, it must have been sitting for at least 5 minutes, first problem, second my vegetables were cold and as drab as possible, these were the items that came with the $32 halibut, big issue for me. Althou all of the entrees were fair to good, with the prices for the fish and meat I believe that the quality of the food, minus the entrees has been compromised. We will think twice before going back again, there are many eateries available that are spectacular every visit.

WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN! Went to Newport Landing, had some drinks and a snack, was good. Made reservations for the boat parade with manager, with the managers seating chart, pre-paid for dinner reservation with credit card for 5 people. Now the next day they have the shear nerve to call and say they overbooked! WTF kind of restaurant does this and how can they do it when they had a very empty reservation book and the manager is the one making the reservations!

Had a great experience at Newport Landing! Had a small private party (a year and a half ago) in one of the upstairs rooms (nice, quiet and intimate) for a 60th birthday party, and to watch the boat parade. Waitstaff and service was good; John (the owner, or one of the owners?) checked in with us to make sure everything was okay. Great food, excellent service, and everyone had a good time! Very memorable occasion - - thanks, Newport Landing!

Friendly staff and delicious seafood (the tacos are very famous and a local favorite). Their drink selection is creative and tasty, but it is a shoot or miss on the alcohol content - Bahama Mama was good but didnt have much content, and the Mule was we balanced. Their menu has very little vegetarian options, maybe 1 main dish and a few side dishes. Nice view on the upstairs terrace of the peninsula as well.
