TAN CANG SEAFOOD IN SANTA ANA : A CHEATING & RIPOFF RESTAURANT ! I just came back yesterday to buy 6 lbs lobster with noodle for $95 to go after stop eating there for more than a year and just found down when I get home the order the restaurant packed for me just half of the lobster because on the bottom of the tray only noodle ! We love the lobster at this restaurant but they always cheating when prepared your lobster usually they save some of your lobster for another order so just 2 lobsters or 3 but they can make up to 3 or 4 order for different parties. Also they put a lot of MSG to make the food taste good but you will get headache after eating at this restaurant and MSG is very bad for your health and your brain too. When you complaint the Owner usually give you some drink so you can let it go but DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT because you can get the lobster with the same quality but just $8.99/ lbs at THE SEAFOOD WORLD RESTAURANT at the corner of BOLSA AND BROOKHURST ! YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP SO DO NOT LET THEM CHEAT & RIPOFF OTHER CUSTOMERS !

Overall: 3.5 Stars, but rounded up because of the tastiness of the Lobster. House Special Lobster w/ Noodles: $18 / lb - MP (3.5 stars) Lobster was on the anorexic side. Less meat inside the huge shells than I was used to; made me a bit disappointed. Noodles were too greasy & wasnt crispy at all. Alhambra & El Monte area restaurants do this dish better but this is one of the better ones that Ive tasted down here in OC. Clams w/ Black Bean Sauce: (3.5 stars) There were more empty shells than filled ones, but the taste was good. Fried Shrimp w/ Salt & Pepper (4 stars) Delicious & a bit on the spicy side. Service: B- You seat yourself & wave them down for menus. Attentive in the beginning but lacks in the middle & picks up where they hand you the check. Decor: C Typical Viet/ Chinese hole in the wall joints. Not a fancy place; you come here for the food, not for the decor/ ambiance. This is where big families/ groups come to have family style lunches/ dinners. Tip: Rice is $1 extra but if you dont want it then you can get it taken off your check.

The food is decent, but the experience is very very bad. Went here for dinner and when we were seated, the waiter "recommended" that we have some fish soup (lau ca), without telling us how much the fish costs. Turns out to have that hot pot of fish soup, it would cost nearly $100 (the fish was extremely expensive), which makes it on par with how much lobster costs. Good thing I asked how much it would cost, or else we would have been tricked into trying something very expensive that we did not really intend to try. I hate it when I go to a restaurant or store and people try to pull a fast one, it sucks to have to ask for the price of everything when someone recommends something, but with con artists like these, its almost necessary to ask. I will never come back to this place again as they try to be sly to take my money.

In A Nutshell: -If you love lobster and garlic noodles, youve come to the right place. -Tan Cang Newport Seafood is famous for its lobster. The flavor and spices used are what makes this place great. -They put all of their focus in the food, so dont mind the interior décor. -The smallest lobster you can get is around 4 lbs. That is enough to feed about 4 people. A 10 lb. lobster was more than enough to feed 12 people and still have leftovers. -Parking is tight, but fluid. Same as the inside seating arrangements. -Service is excellent, especially if you come with a big party, you can always count on the wait staff to help distribute/serve food without you having to do it yourself. Overall, come here HUNGRY b/c you get a lot of food.

Hate doing this to my favorite restaurant, but this place got caught cheating tonight. We ordered a 6 lbs lobster, as was told its the smallest one. When the dish came out, we found more than 1 head (see pic) and more than 8 legs in our plate and was very few pieces of the body part. When we confronted the owner, she said chef prob made a mistake when scooping. I said we pay by lb, why do you cook my lobster with other ppls lobster? She said we gain a head from someone elses plate, we should be happy about it. My thought, they cook multiple lobsters at the same time and guess the weight when done. Im not ☺with her explanation at all. I share to see if anybody else notice this before..

I ordered the lobster special and the preset $32 menu and shaking beef. the lobster had way too much msg in it. why couldnt they just use salt and pepper? canh chua was awesome. but the clams, kung pao chicken was full of msg. the shaking beef was especially bad. its so gelatinous. the only thing that was no msg was the gai lang. no oil on it is a big plus too. but I wouldnt eat other stuff here. so much msg in it. service is not great either. the waiter was in the middle of taking our order when walked over to the table next to us to tend to the woman and taking her order and took another couple to their table. wtf!

Newport Tan Cang is an and old Vietnamese classic. I have to admit Im a bit biased since I came here going up a lot. That being said, when Im looking for some authentic family-style Vietnamese food, this is definitely a spot for me. I never leave you without a smile and my wallet is always happy. I love the shaken beef (bò lúc lắc), kung pao chicken and the spicy clams. They are most well-known for their lobster, which I have on special occasions
