Came to try Sen Dai after a coworker recommended it. Its a surprisingly low key place off Abel instead of Calaveras. The windows in the front are all taped over and on the day I went, even the lights for their restaurant name was turned off. Once you enter, however, you are greeted with a different atmosphere. The place is packed with busy waiters and chefs. Some items on the menu are telltale signs that this place is Korean owned/operated. We ordered some kanpachi, tai, hirame, hamachi nigiris as well as some hand rolls, the "hirakimo" (hirame wrapped ankimo), hamachi carpaccio, and the fresh oysters (no kumamoto, but medium-small sized Pacific oysters). The first pleasant surprise was that the orders came quickly and well-prepared. Second, the fish is a generous cut! And when eaten, they were pretty darn good! Certainly better that most sushi places in the Bay Area that Ive been to. There arent many sushi places that have kanpachi so this place gets a thumbs up for that. Coupled with the fast, friendly service and very good sushi, I am certain to come back; and recommend others. As we left, place became packed with people waiting outside. Should definitely come before 7pm.

I was a bit underwhelmed with the food here. Everything seemed rather overdone. We got the Nigiri appetizer and a couple of different rolls. The Nigiri had a lot of garnishes/sauces on it. It masked the taste of the fish for the most part, but some pieces were pretty good and some pieces were not so good. When the rolls came I was convinced that this would be the selling point. Its not that I didnt enjoy them, its that they were all so heavy and they felt overdone. One roll had lemon shavings in it that completely overpowered the roll and were hard to eat so we picked them out. The other two were drenched in sauce. The roll I enjoyed the most out of all of them was the "secret" roll since it was baked which I found to be quite unique. However, it definitely isnt what I would consider sushi. Overall, if you are looking for a fresh and more traditional sushi experience, this place wont be for you. However, if you want to try rolls that are pretty out there and on the heavier side (fried, baked, covered in sauce) then you will likely enjoy your experience here. It just wasnt for me.

My go-to place for rolls in Milpitas!! The rolls here are amazing. The entire last page of their menu are selections of creative rolls with super fresh ingredients. My favorite ones include Stormbringer (fried soft shell crab), Rock Star (sliced lemon and macadamia nuts), and 237. They also have Catch of the Day that changes frequently listed on the wall. The negatives about this place are 1)Parking is a pain. I would suggest parking in the library and walk over (safest), or park in the Pump It Up lot at your own risk of being tolling. 2) You will most likely have to wait, unless you come right as it opens. You wont be seated until all parties are there. 2) Servers are nice but busy so service can be lacking. Also, right after you finish, you will get the bill and the servers will come back to check whether you have put down your cards frequently. You will eventually feel like they are forcing you to leave. So dont plan to stay after you eat, enjoy some yummy sushi and rolls and get out.

Ok, lets get one thing out of the way: I like traditional sushi prepared traditionally. If you like american sushi, this place is fantastic. If you like traditional sushi, this place is not for you. 1) The rolls are huge, requiring multiple bites to eat. We had one roll that was four pieces from one sheet of Nori. They only estimate how many pieces are in a roll ( imprecision). 2) Tempura everywhere. We had a roll with tempura shrimp and they just topped it with tempura flakes so it covered the plate for good measure. 3) We had a roll that couldnt be picked up without it falling apart. Did the sushi Taste good? Yes, but I prefer balanced sushi. Was it prepared well: No

We went to this restaurant for lunch today. From outside it might look like nothing, but you might be surprised when you get inside. The place is spacious and very comfortable. It was quite crowded as well for Sunday lunch, but we didnt have to wait very long (10 minutes). I ordered the Korean chiraishi. It was very delicious, but the portion was very big, I had to leave most of the rice uneaten. My friend order some rolls and theyre also big in portion as well. Something to be noted when you order food here. Might want to order a bit first then order more if youre still feeling hungry. The service is good, the ambiance is good as well. Overall I will definitely go back.

After standing there about 20 mins, we were left there for more than 10 mins without being served. Not even just two cups of ice water. 10 mins would be a reasonable waiting time, if we were seated directly after came in. But after we waited there 20 mins just for seats, couldnt they pay a little more attention to us? Maybe they were really busy, but it only means they didnt have enough waiters to provide decent service. Doesnt matter how the food tastes. They simply dont care how customers feel, because they have enough customers. We will never go there again.

This place is very popular. Sometimes the wait is long. A drawback is that they dont seat your party unless everyone is there. I understand that they wont seat your party if theres only half of your group, but like if theres only one missing? Thats harsh. Other than that, I personally think this place is good, not fantastic but for sure better than whats out there. The sushi selection is good, they usually have a "fresh" fish of the week/days listed on the wall. Service is quick and very nice.

Love this sushi place! Came here for the first time and was very impressed with the food. My boyfriend and I ordered the Orgasmic Roll, Sumo Roll and a Chicken Katsu Curry. The sushi rolls were really good; the proportions seemed larger than most other sushi restaurants Ive been to. You can really taste the sashimi they put into it. The Chicken Katsu Curry was one of the best Ive had! The chicken was so soft and the breading wasnt overpowering. I most definitely want to come back here again!

Be aware that if you go during a busy time you need to sign in with them and get a number. There is no signage to indicate this so my party ended up waiting for about ten minutes for no reason. They also only allow the check to be split two ways (2 credit cards) per party which we didnt know ahead of time. The sushi was decent and the service was satisfactory after the initial wait for a table, which was lengthy during mid-week lunchtime.

Sen Dai sushi is definitely one of the better sushi options in the South Bay. Not only does the restaurant serve rolls of varied selections and of large portions, Sen Dai also has a wonderful selection of raw fish options including a chirashi bowl at under $18.00 and chefs selection sashimi. Be warned however that the wait here could be lengthy especially during prime dinner time (expect to wait up to 45 minutes).
