This placed use to be a family favorite, but a few years ago they changed their menu--and ramped up their prices significantly. Unfortunately, all that came with a steady decline in quality. Sushi has never been their strong suit, but now even their main entrees have been suffering. Their extra large portions have dwindled significantly along with the flavor, while retaining the high prices. As a result, theyve gone from one of my top favorites to one of my least favorites. I much prefer making the drive up to Santa Cruz for Totoro or down to Watsonville for Miyuki if Im in the mood for Japanese. I miss the days of the Soquel location.

This is our second favorite play to go for sushi in Santa Cruz. Hi quality sushi! The atmosphere is dim-lit and very family friendly. Gets a little loud, but in my experience, most sushi places do! They have a good vegetarian selection and not too bad for a vegan selection either. I forgot to take a photo of our vegan sushi, but here are some of the fish rolls that our friends got! Also we love the liter of beer! :) Only problem is that their hot sake only comes in one size! We wanted Large!

Below average in most catagories. All places start off at 4 stars and go from there. Customer service was mediocre at best. The decore was a decade or two old. The plates were all chipped in several places.The salad came out drenched in dressing and partly wilted. The food was all "meh" with the exception of the chicken teriyaki. Our order was never fully delivered and we sat there waiting for spoons. Our table was covered in empty dishes for over 5 minutes before we had anyone checked on us.

Not understanding this place having any stars, drinks were to sweet for him and too spicy for me but the sushi omg not good at all! No got sauses weird ingredients just not good!! Watch out for the stringy batter looks like hair. Yuck! Disappointed how much I spent for something so disappointing

The lunch combo is inexpensive and definitely above average quality for Japanese food. It is also quick to be seated, order, and served which I look for in a lunch place. The atmosphere and decor is nice enough to invite clients without being too stuffy for a casual meal.

I really like this place. Love the hamachi Kama, combo plates, nice selection. Very roomy. Good service. Great place for kids. The booth layout allows kids to be separated a bit which gives room for everybody.

Great sushi, friendly staff, and good prices! The carpets need to be replenished in there though, people who are not locals probably get a bad impression cause of the carpeting! But it is overall amazing!:)

I used to go to Takara on Soquel but this one is pretty good. The spider roll is excellent and their other rolls are good too. Its a nice place to go to with your family or your SO.

Love this place! We are big sushi buffs. Love the cozy japanese atmosohere, and the service is always nice. Try the Sweet Muscles and the Monster Roll! ENJOY!

I go here for the sushi. There specialty rolls are big and very filling. It is a bit pricey but the speciality rolls are big, so you dont have to order much.

The Tempura green tea ice cream is delicious, if you have enough room for it after the meal. A bit pricey for the quality, but still good.
