Came here to eat after picking up my 6 year old from school because i didnt want to drive to Raku sushi which is our usual place to eat (biggest mistake of my life). My son can not eat meat or fish because it causes him to vomit therefore he only had two small sides of rice. When our check came i asked our server if she could speak to the manger about the fact that my son had not ate anything aside from the rice which i was willing to pay for, but $12 for the kids dinner which he couldnt eat seemed excessive. The manager responded with "well we didnt see him not eat so we cant do that". Raku and other restaurants we have been to have NEVER done this. Our server went to our table enough time and my son sat at the edge of the table where both the waitress and others could see that he ate nothing but the rice and played on his tablet bored while we ate. We will never be back here again not just due to the rudeness of the female manager but the food was not great. All the rolls are think with rice and and so covered in sauce you cant taste anything else. We tried 4 different rolls and they were so thick and covered that they all tasted exactly the same. Definitely not a family friendly restaurant if your small children wont be eating.

This place is going down the hill. After they reopened mana, they raised all the prices for food. I understand they have to charge you for their new features. However, I believe that their portion and prices are unreasonable. They used to told me that their fish came straight from Japan. I guess that was his pride. However, who eats fish from Japan noways? After Japan had a tsunami, their nuclear plant has leaked tons contaminated groundwater to the ocean. A lot of Eastern Asian citizens refuses to eat seafood that came from Japan. So feel free to try their sashimi and hope it was safe from contamination. Also, the biggest reason I am writing here is because of the violation of health code. I accidentally drove behind the restaurant since I missed the turn on Fulton. The owner was wearing his apron and he was taking the dog(think it was a pug but it was very large) into the restaurant building. (There are three doors and he went into the far left side one and i believe that door goes through the kitchen.) After I saw that, I had to turn around and eat somewhere else. I WONT recommend this place to anyone.

A number of reviews here are for Katana, which is next door to Mana. Katana is a "Bennihanna" type joint where they make Teppanyaki, throw the food in the air and so forth. Its ok (and fun to watch) especially for people who dont like authentic Japanese food. Sushi at Katana is, to be polite, not their specialty. Mana is an above average Sacramento sushi place. That is to say, they have good, fresh fish but like every other place around here they are caught up in this "roll" madness. In Japan, the whole point of having fresh fish is so that you can taste the fish. Thus, the Japanese dont make rolls with 17 ingredients and top them with super sauce. The nice thing about Mana is that the fish is good enough to eat with just a little rice or even by itself. Of course better quality fish costs more but at least at Mana, youre not paying to see and be seen.

We came in a party of seven and one baby. We were not greeted when we arrived, and had too wait until all the members arrived. We were not notify about the policy. Secondly, when we got our table, our waitress did not greet us. We had to wait an extra 5-10minutes to get someone to come and take our order. And when they came, they had to get "our waitress" to get our order. Im not sure why "our waitress" had to come get our order when they could have done it themselves. Also, the delivery of the food came out very slow. I did not think it was busy at all. The food was okay. I dont think Ill come again because of the service and how they made me feel: uncomfortable and unwanted. The host was not very welcoming either. Would not come back.

Terrible service and all the rolls tasted like the same thing. Will not return, especially after such poor service, long waits, boring flavor and finding out that Sac County had given them a RED flag and closed them down, along with the restaurant next door! **Also** being a responsible person, I did not like the waitress telling me to clean my plate before she would take another order during the, "All You Can Eat - but you must clean your plate or pay a $5 waste fee" lunch. Plenty of nearby restaurants will better cater to you with better food and service.

Weak.. Not sure why there are so many highly rated reviews. Server was completely clueless most of the time, consistently got other tables food; our group order was all mixed up... The "buffet" ended up being half of a roll because they forgot my second "roll" and rushed me out with a $30 hole in my pocket. Charged one of the individuals in our group, whom didnt even order anything haha.... The rolls themselves were mediocre. Would suggest going elsewhere, this place is a joke. UPDATE: THEY AUTOMATICALLY TIP 10%, AND IT WASNT STATED UPON PAYMENT! WOW!

Ive been to all the big names in the Sacramento area but keep coming back to Mana on Alta Arden Expressway. The fish is always fresh, they have a wide assortment of rolls for those who prefer the artistry, the teriyaki and tempura is excellent for those who like something other than raw fish. The staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are moderate. I also like that theyre NOT in the trendy areas of the city. Im not into the glamour spots and like just being able to drop in and relax. Couples, families, Excellent for all!

Pros: Friendly service. Fresh sashimi. Cons: The rolls are mediocre in flavor. The ramen tastes like it came from an instant package. The miso soup lacked any depth of flavor...but it was served hot, at least. The bento box hardly had anything in it for the unusually high price. This is not New Edokko anymore and the food shows it. Better off going to a more authentic Japanese sushi house where the chef is actually Japanese and knows what Japanese food should taste like.

Avoid this place. They call themselves an all you can eat, but the customer service is terrible and they will try to kick you out if you take more than 1 hour. I would understand if the place was crowded, but the place was pretty empty. The server even gave me attitude about leaving an "unreasonable tip", after i told her that the service was bad she told me it was the owners fault and not hers. TLDR - Avoid this place, its not worth it.

3.5 stars. Used to be one of my favorite places to go when I have a visitor in the city. I must say the quality of food and service has deteriorated since they moved to the west side(bigger space). I recommend requesting to be seated at the counter (preferably served by the manager). Omakase is really good but the portion is huge (the appetizer plate is a must have but the last rice dish is unnecessary).
