I was walking around La Jolla Cove and searched for pizza places nearby. This one showed up and it had pretty good ratings. So I checked it out. It wasnt perfect, but good enough. I am vegetarian and went by myself. I therefore I ordered a custom pizza (smallest size was 10 or 11 inches IIRC) with tomatoes and onions. It was tasty. Not as good as my favorite Dominos but it was filling. The staff was particularly friendly as well. They greeted me as I walked in and one of the waitresses sat me down, introduced herself and acted as my personal waitress throughout the visit. This was interesting, and they never got too clingy or awkward. I also got a free Coke refill without asking for it. The ambience was also not bad. The atmosphere was cosy and dark, similar to a bar (the restaurant also has a bar). Some tables had high chairs and there were several booths for families. Its the perfect place to cool off with your group after an afternoon of walking around La Jolla Cove. It was relatively expensive, though. The Coke and the small thin-crust pizza cost around $11. I wished they also made smaller pizzas.

To be fair, this place is not horrible, but it is definitely overrated! It gets good business due to its excellent location in La Jolla, but is far from superb. The service was good, and the wings I ordered as an appetizer were great! I also ordered a burger, which was another story. The meat was awful and tasted like an old frozen patty they had pulled from the back of the freezer and cooked on a dirty grill. It was so bad that it inspired me to create this review. Another minor detail was the awful sound system, which sounded like a speaker played through the intercom system. This was our second time eating here, and the first was exactly the same. If your looking for a quick meal or a drink, then this is your place. If your out for a fine dinner, forget about it!

Ordered two pizzas, one with new item - duck, another with pepperoni. Found bones in the duck pizza and pepperoni was so salty and fatty, we couldnt enjoy it. The calamari appetizer was also swimming in oil. Had to wait more than 35 min, not 20, as menu states, for pizza. Had to ask our server for forks, etc. repeatedly. They were out of crayons, so kids were very impatient. Not one time our server checked on us or asked if we were satisfied with the food. Finally (after an hour) had to track him down and show the bones in our food. They only took off 9 bucks (half of one pizza) but added 18% gratuity because we were a party of 6 (2 adults and 4 kids). Horrible! We live in SD and will have to avoid this place.

I am so sad to say this is one of the worst dinner experiences ive ever had!! We were first told by the hostess it would be a 15 min wait. 1 hour later, we were finally seated. The hostess came off as rude & iritated. I ordered my meal with the soup. The vegetable soup was SO spicy! I took 3 bites and my throat was burning! A famiy member confimed it was unusually spicy. It was so uncomfortable, i could not eat my entree. We spoke to the server, she insisted there was no hot spiciness to that soup. The server was unsympathetic & ignored me the rest of the evening.I never touched my meal. I paid my bill & vowed to never go back.

I wasnt sure I wanted to eat here when I walked in. It appeared very family oriented, busy but still plenty of open tables, dark and old, needs updating, but decided to give it a try because my friend wanted to eat there. I was looking for my usual healthy fare, but as soon as I flipped the menu over, the black and bleu lamburger jumped off the page at me. So I ordered it. I was not disappointed! AMAZING BURGER! This is a thick, huge lamb burger, HUGE, and the bleu cheese sauce... OMG... Delicious! One of the best burgers ever! Oh, he enjoyed his salmon too! Great service, and this place has been around a while.

My go to spot (get it? okay, Ill stop.) for late night eats when Im sick of Mexican. The service is decent, a little more focus on the people at the bar than those at the tables, but thats fine-the place is a cozy size and youre seen to pretty quickly. I love American, and this place does it right. I suggest the jambalaya! It can be pretty spicy, but the flavors are sexy and make for a great experience. Other than that, I recommend going to this spot only if youre going late, parking really opens up as the rest of downtown La Jolla starts to close.

Food was poor. Very poor! Had lobster. The meat was as mushy as mashed potatoes. Sent it back to the kitchen. Surprisingly, they still put it on my tab. Tacky! Bartender recommended a bottle of wine. It was a screw off bottle and so-so in taste. Screw off bottle? Whats with that? Dont they realize that half the reason you go out is for the entertainment and atmosphere. Bartender was fun, but professes to be demeaning if customers dont like her style. I gave a reduced tip, but should have gave none in light of being charged for a returned meal.

Excellent food and service. We were drawn in by the Lobster special and thats what I ordered. It came out in a fancy presentation and the meat was tasty and fresh as were the sides of veggies and baked potato. The bread pudding was yummy too. They have a good selection of draft beers and my server brought me Pacifico. He was friendly, courteous and efficient. I dont know how people cant like this place. Restaurant quality food in a laid-back atmosphere with big screen tvs. I will def go back for their famous pizza next time Im in LJ.

I dont understand why people like this place, unless its for the beer. Ate here on vacation with 9 other family members. Only one of the ten of us found there meal to be tasty (my 13 year old son). I had the meatloaf, which the waitress who seamed really good, recommend it. It was awful, I was blown away. Even the mashed potatoes were instant potatoes, or if they werent they tasted like it. Too bad as the atmosphere is nice. Stick to the beer, its cold.

Went here to meet up with some friends after an arts festival in La Jolla. The dining area was not great for watching the end of the Chargers game as only the end seats could see the TV and only from one side of the table... Though it looked like the bar area had a good view of the TV. Highly recommend the deep dish pizza! Service was fine and allowed us to move around to other tables after more guests caused us to overflow the booth!

I dont know if this will count, but I had been here a couple of times with a friend of mine back in the early 90s. Michael and I used to come here to get away from our spouses so we could sit and chat while sipping cocktails. It was a great place to go to, to hang with a friend or two and lounge. We never had food, though, because all we ever did was drink, so thats why I only notated the service and atmosphere selections.
