Aw Yeah GETAWAY!!!! For the locals its pronounced "Ghetto-way Cafe". I dont know where to beginning. You stole my heart, you had me at hello. Before I start my review, I would like to address a few of the negative reviews. Now I understand 3 star reviews, this place is not the best for everyone, but anything lower.. I dont know what you are smoking. Take that stick out of your A$S and take your "Ive had better" attitude and just leave. We dont need your kind at Getaway anyway. If you dont drink beer, what-the-f**k are you doing here? You dont see me going to a Vegan restaurant and giving it 1 star, because theres no meat. If you are only willing to eat Costco Pizza or some crappy Dominos because of how cheap you are, just leave. Deuces! Getaway has very reasonably priced entrees and has great portions. Its hard to truly describe this place without you actually going here. The food is kind of like a ghetto gourmet. Its not fast food or Dennys, but its got a very light sprinkle of gourmet to it. Your best bet is to go with the Burgers. They are not out of this world, but still delicious. Take it from a picky burger eater, they get the job done. Also, the sandwiches are all pretty good. The pizza is a tricky one, some are either good or nasty. It really depends on which favor you choose. Id say go for the basic meat varieties and play it safe. To truly appreciate Getaway you must be UCR student or Alumni or at least live in Riverside. Or else you wouldnt understand, its Riverside thing. Maybe that saying will stick... its better than hearing someone say "its a Jersey thing". No offense to Ghetto-siders, UCR is freaking the bomb dot com. Great people, great parties, great b**.. I mean ladies, and Great Engineer, Business school (now/soon a Med school and Law school, so suck it other UCs that dont have either) besides going to UCR, RIVERSIDE F***ing sucks! I lived there for a little while after graduating and I was slowly rotting away in the Inland-SMOG Empire. Ghetto-way is your only Getaway! From the outside.. there isnt much to see. In fact the first time I met a friend here, I wasnt sure if this place was part of the apartments directly behind it. I walked in to what appeared to be a side door, but is really the front door. It was completely dark and only lit by neon glow of sport and beer signs. I almost walked out, because I thought theres no way I will like this place. I was just barely under the drinking age (haha like it matters in college) and hated the taste of beer, but something about this bar smell of wood and beer, and the taste of a decent burger made me feel at peace. Also, a few quarters can buy you a game on a very horrible, but fun pool table. Even before I would learn to give up fruit drinks and have a love for great tasting beers, there was something about Getaway that just felt like home... I most likely will never be caught dead in Riverside with the exception of catching up with friends, but I miss my favorite beer. DROP TOP!! Try it! Stupid Yard House has it listed on their site, but nearly every YH I went to in socal does not serve it. If you are a UCR student, you must try this place at least once. Bring your buddies and relax and dont take life too seriously. If you are looking for something unbelievable and with white table clothes, dont bother. If you like decently priced beer and kick back atmosphere. Its Getaway time for you. **I have no idea why Im writing a review at 3:30 AM on a weekday, but I felt I need to give back to Getaway. I am grateful for all the good times. Thank you Thank you. Until we meet again. For now if my buddies are reading this, please poor some Drop Top off to the side for me. **

Small, intimate restaurant with a mouthwatering selection of pastas and appetizers. While the ambiance was nicely set with dim lighting and candles, there was not much elbow room. We were luckily seated without a reservation since we made it before Friday night dinner rush. The complimentary bread and sundried tomato/olive oil dipping sauce was a nice opening for our meal. We skipped ordering appetizers as it was our first time here, and we were not familiar with the portion sizes. Im sorry to say that was a mistake. The 3-ingredient carbonara though delicious, flavorful, and rich, was just a little too small for me (a petite female), and the Tagliolini Salmone was certainly not filling enough for my male companion. Our food came fairly quickly.

while visiting my brother in riverside CA we decided to walk to the Get Away cafe on a saturday night. I would say the staff outnumbered the customers and there was no music in the entire bar. When i asked if they could play music they directed me to a jukebox that charged $1/song. the appetizers we ordered were terrible. i had to send back the potato skins. the pool table we tried to play on had 3 cue balls. I honestly feel comfortable saying Get Away Cafe was the worst bar i have ever been to.. and i am not picky. STAY AWAY.

On a Friday night, if there wasnt anything else going on, we knew that someone would be at the Getaway on the patio with a pitcher. The pizza is adequate, but the sandwiches and burgers are fantastic (especially the California burger). Also, try the Monster Fries! After awhile, we got tired of always going to the Getaway to hang out with friends, but there werent really any other decent options right off campus. The main downside is that they dont serve anything other than beer and wine, but thats part of a city ordinance.

Cool place. Can stand a remodel but other than that is is definitely the ultimate college kid hangout spot. Pool. Beer. Arcade games. Foosball. Sports on Tv. Outdoor and indoor seating. Specialty beers. Pitchers. Heart attack inducing cheesy fries. Just make sure you park in the right spots. The adjoining apartment complex does not take kindly to overflow parking.

Good place to grab food that doesnt taste like cafeteria food from the University. Serve alcohol so thats good. Love the monster fries, its like animal style fries on steroids! Nice place to chill and watch a game.

Owner is great, very attentive. Good beer selection, tasty filling pizza. Affordable. Nice grungy atmosphere, like a bar, but with classy people inside. My new favorite place to hang before class.

The carne asada fries are THE best, the beer is good, and the staff is remarkably great. They gave me free beer when I did my oral qualifying exam for the PhD, so I love them!

Fun place to drink occasionally. carne asada fries are just ground beef fries and food is kinda bad but fun atmosphere and decent beer selection. service is also pretty good
