Skeptical Guy
Sravana bhavan serves vegetarian food from south india - mostly the hindu cuisine of tamil nadu. It is a delicious but minimalist cuisine based on lentils, grains, vegetables and herbs. As you can imagine, with these foundations the food is critically dependent on freshness of herbs and vegetables as well as fresh preparation. This is why you see indian ladies (and families) poking and prodding tomatoes and eggplants at farmers markets - as we say in indian english, everything must be ekdam fresh-fresh. While Sravana Bhavan makes a reasonable effort to make freshly prepared food, unfortunately the ingredients are indistinguished and some have the definite feeling of being refrigerated. Coconut chuntney is bland and underwhelming - which is shocker in this of cusine. The Masala Dosa, while nicely presented, had a filling which lacked flavor - either the vegetables were purchased a day or two ago - or the filling was cooked earlier and refrigerated. The tomato chutney had the constituency of ketchup (maybe it was ketchup??). The vadas while freshly cooked and piping hot had internals which lacked zing and had a strangely doughy taste. In their defense, my guess is that they lack adequate volume to shop veggies everyday and prepare everything just before dinner time. Maybe they need to limit the number of choices available on the menu?

I have always enjoyed dining at Saravana Bhawan in India and many other countries. We took our guests to Saravana Bhavan, Mowri Av, Fremont with very high hopes of enjoying an India lunch. We looked forward to an appetizing aroma of Indian spices, curry and good food. Unfortunately we were in for a rude shock. There was a foul smell all over the place and the place was dirty. Even the washrooms were filthy. While we were eating, the place was being vacuum cleaned(?) The waiter were poorly dressed, sullen faced and disinterested. The manager seemed indifferent. Only saving grace was the food which was good but not up to the Saravana Bhavan standard. Overall a very disappointing experience.

*****Please Avoid this place****** No more an authentic south indian food Ordered Special meals and Paper Masala Dosa. They should for sure change the name as Kids Normal meals. Very less quantity of rice with lot of baking soda, Cabbage dish was spoiled, rasam was cold out of fridge, Masala which came with Dosa was a dump of uncooked, Nonsalted potato mash. Asked some extra sambar to 2 people and no one even care respond back. Response from the supervisor for all these feedback provided to him was OK Sir will change the cabbage and thats the quantity you get Sir. OK supervisor thank you take care of your regular careless business !!

I had masala dosa, the subji in it was blend. The amount of sambhar given was pathetic. There was no veggies in sambhar other than onions. Friend of mine had idli, and theyd, given him 8 or so mini idlies with barely enough sambhar for two. I enjoyed it as far as the taste goes, it tasted pretty close to how it should in India. I left a tip and the waited asked me to follow him to the register. Felt weird, but I did and then he to scratch the tip and pay him in cash as the owner does not give them tip.

I am very very disappointed about the service today and I dont want to back to this place again. why we go to restaurant anyway ? for taste and ambiance. I like the Sambar and I requested for another cup and the guy is saying this will be your last cup and he is saying to other servers also dont provide any more cups. If he wants he can charge for additional cup but the way this guy behaved is shame and I seriously disappointed. I will not go back again and I will not recommend to anyone.

Best South Indian food you can get! If youre a vegetarian then youve hit the golden spot with this restaurant. Service here is pretty quick. Staff is very friendly and courteous. I had ordered onion rava masala dosa. The quantity was quite filling and quality was authentic. Parking lot has got you covered. RiteAid , Sprouts in the same lot so a lot convenient. Tip : if you are a coffee lover , order their coffee you wont be disappointed. Also if going in afternoon please check the timings.

This hotel is heaven for vegetarian. This is one of our top favorite hotel for lunch and breakfast. I would always recommend my friends and coworker if they want to try authentic Indian foods. Its top Indian restaurant in east bay. Top rated Dosas, idli, vada, rasam, sambar and south Indian authentic. All curries are very tasty and authentic. We dont like the sweets they serve with special meals though. Nice place to sit and relax and have authentic Indian food. Have fun.

The time now is around 8PM on July 3, 2016. I called this restuarant to order food(take out) over phone so that I can avoid waiting in their restaurant while they are cooking food. No body answers on the other side though phone was ringing. I drove there and ordered in person and waited for 20 minutes to pickup my order. I just wanted to explain my phone order experience to the man who was answering phone calls. He is an IDIOT who doesnt care to listen. Bad service.

Decided to never ever step in into this place for food. Worst, disgusting and very poor service. This is a famous well known South Indian chain of Tamilian restaurant which has great food but worst, disgusting and very poor service. These fellows dont know the meaning of customer service. Spoiling the image of Tamil tradition. Recommend not to go to this place. Had three horrible experiences on three consecutive visits to this place.

Had here only once. I had ordered for filter coffee, chana bhatura, uttapam. I liked the chana bhatura, although I was expecting to see 2 Bhaturas instead of one. Do not expect to be north Indian style. Also, they did not serve it with the usual Onion, chilli and pickle. Uttapam was good. Liked the sambar and the chutneys too. Filter coffee was good as well. They took a lot of time to serve it.

Bad customer service. 2 stars only cause the food is good. BUT they dont care a bit about their customers... we just asked whether we can get our togo order over there a minute after placing the order. They tell me the order is packed and they cant give us. What does it mean the order is packed? How can you pack an order in a minute. After which we have to wait for 20 minutes to collect the order.

Loved the food!!! South-Indian food has become my favorite now! All the items with the chutneys and dips were delicious! 14 pieces mini idli was so soft and delicious! Vada, dosa, poori with veg curry and potatoes were oh so tasty! Coffee was traditional Desi style and amazing! Onion uttapam was surprisingly good! We would come to this place for sure next time we are in the Bay area!!

Great food, really bad service. The waiter taking the order was not bothered to take write down our order, even though in the little time that we were there before placing the order we saw the tables next to us return their order as it was incorrect. Service was slow too, but the food was really good. Highly recommended if you go in with a pocketful of patience.
