This Straits location isnt as large as the one in Santana Row, but its certainly still a great place to relax and have a bite to eat or drink with coworkers or friends after a long day especially with the chic modern and asian inspired decor. First and foremost-check into yelp, you get a free roti prata order! Not as flaky and fluffy as some of the better ones Ive had, but it wasnt bad and was a great complement to the wine. My coworkers and I came a a few hours early for happy hour, but we were there for the ambiance and the good food. The dish of the meal was the chicken satay with a peanut sauce, it was such a hit, we ordered four! The salt and peppered crispy chicken came in a close second place- with excellent seasoning and spice, it was another major hit at the table. Must haves are also the garlic noodles and indian street noodles, both are great complements for any dishes or apps you get. The staff were really nice, friendly and very attentive. I think we found our new post work spot to wine and dine after a long day at work!

My wife and I went there on a friday evening around 8.30 PM. We didnt have to wait and were seated by the host. After 5 mins of waiting, we were offered water and the server introduced himself. I ordered some special Singaporean drink in Peach flavor and my wife ordered the same drink in coconut flavor. They both tasted like syrup from the first sip on. Not what we expected for their special at $4 each. We ordered the Corn fritters (5 Stars). This is a must try if you go there. The dipping they give along with this is amazing. For entrees we ordered the Pad thai and garlic noodles. Both of them had a weird taste for me because of the shoots they had over the noodles and also the mushrooms were extremely chewy. I ate half the portion of what I usually eat. My wife also felt the weird taste but she was starving so managed to eat nonetheless. Oh well, I am not recommending this place!

This place is usually busy on the weekends, so I was quite happy that my wife and I were seated quickly. However, the place was still packed and our server was stretched thin. It took a lot of neck craning to get her attention, only to have her mess up several parts of our order. The worst was that she didnt put in the order for our appetizer until 25 minutes later and I brought it up. When it came out it was delivered to the table next to us, much to both tables surprise. The last surprise was that it was put on their bill not ours! Service aside, this place is pretty good, so long as you dont mind loud music and a club-like atmosphere. I really liked the banana blossom salad and the stir-fried seasonal vegetables. I also highly recommend the lemon grass mojito, it was heavenly.

Bad all-round- clearly this place is tanking. 1. We arrived for happy hour; but the table took so long to get ready and clear, we missed it waiting around for them to get ready. And they certainly wouldnt offer us happy our after this. 2. Even though we missed happy hour, we still wanted some of the cocktails off the happy hour menu; we were happy to pay full price-- but no, they would not even consider this 3. No cutlery. Even despite asking for it. The food came before the cutlery and we waited while the food got cold. Sad to say it, but this place is going from reasonable to bad, quickly

I have never had food this nasty and under prepared. I ordered the walnut shrimp. This dish literally came out 2 minutes after I ordered in an ugly plastic plate. There was absolutely no presentation of the dish. Its fried shrimp dipped in sweet mayo with sodium smelling garlic powder. When I tried it, I could feel the frying powder in my mouth. McDonalds suddenly sounds like a much more appealing dinner choice. I was there at 7:30. The place was empty. I didnt do restaurant like this can claim such a prime location in the busy downtown Burlingame avenue. I was wrong. Dont go.

Pretty good happy hour! Ive been here for both dinner and happy hour, and the happy hour is definitely more worth it. This Straits location has pretty quick service in comparison to the one in Santana Row. I also like the ambience here slightly better. Their portions are kind of small, even for the dinner menu items. I felt like my boyfriend and I had to order a lot of items to fill our appetite. Seems to be only worth your money if youre not hungry and just need a snack with your drink.

Friday lunch. The place is almost empty. The vibe is nice, atmosphere coherent with its themes and the service great. The food was average. Roti Prata is super good! The garlic noodles however wasnt nearly as good. Raw Garlic, Raw mushrooms, Raw shrimp. All these thing shouldnt be raw and it was really raw. The mushrooms are the Chinese type and just tasted like someone soaked it in water. Not nice to bite through at all, especially bad when the noodles were filled with them.

Not really a fan - the food is mediocre, the drinks are very watery and unoriginal... The one perk is that they have a happy hour so its fun to go with a group. Pretty loud inside though so it isnt a great place for conversations. Definitely a place to go before you go out for cheap bites during their happy hour, but not sure I would go out of my way to come here just to eat/drink there..

Straits used to be good but the restaurant has turned into those generic chain restaurants. Food is bland at best and service matches the quality of the food the restaurant has. I really feel that I can find better food at my nephews high school cafeteria.

Recommend this place. The food is delicious and well-presented. Some entrees are interesting and unique. Service is good and friendly. They also have hip modern decor and ambiance. Great for dinner dates or group events.

Small portions for what you pay! Hit or miss on most dishes. Went with a group, so we were able to try a lot but we sure paid a price when the bill came... Personally not a place that I would rave about

Food was barely edible, drinks were terrible, the place is very loud, the employees are untrained and unhappy, highly recommend finding somewhere else if you are looking for a good dinner.

Great place to come with friends, or even on a date. On Friday and Saturdays they move some tables and the bar turns more into a nice lounge. Great music with a fun DJ

Just changed ownership and is being renamed "Hawker" (Aug 2107). Food is very good, as is the bar. Friendly staff. Music a little too loud for comfortable conversation.
