The food here is pretty good, although not very authentic, and some items are really bland like the chicken and fish tacos. Breakfast is a better bet, but yesterday after standing in line for 30 minutes we got to the counter and were told the breakfast cut off was 12. This was at 5 after. The worst part was that the guy taking orders was so rude. Im used to the counter people here being rushed and not too friendly. Which is OK for this kind of place, but this guy was almost hostile. So we had lunch and I left wondering why we hadnt just gone to Picante. Prices are higher, but the food is better there and you get a lot more for your money.

A sister restaurant to Temescals Doña Tomas, Tacubaya is a fast casual version that I actually prefer over the more formal Doña. The line can be nearly out the door but you usually wait less than 10 min to order. My usual orders include the chips and guacamole, tortilla chicken soup, and the agua fresca special of the day. Ill often order the mushroom quesadilla, which is nutty and hearty. The tortilla soup contains slices of avocado and spinach leaves to add to its freshness. The dining room is packed and youll have less luck finding a table outside. The patio is dog friendly, which is a plus!

Highly recommend the fish tacos, theyre some of the best in the area. Try the Asada tacos and ask for the red sauce that they put on their carnitas, its a much better flavor combo than the sad guacamole goo that the beef normally come with. I recommend skipping lunch/dinner here on the weekend, the kitchen churns out food a bit too fast and doesnt pay as much attention as they do during the week.

Good food, trendy crowd, atmosphere, and prices. Everything a la carte gives you lots of options but can be pretty expensive considering the food. It is decent, California-style Mexican food. Good ambiance, but 3 stars because the food doesnt come close to the tasty taqueria meals that are easily available in the area. Also, you cant drink beer outside on the patio.

The food is better than most local Mexican food, but it is over-priced for the amount you get and the service is so bad that it actually rates "it sucks" in that category... slow and surly. By far and away, Picante, on 6th Street near Gilman, has better food, better portions, and service that is both fast and courteous.

This isnt a Taco truck. If you want taco truck, go to Sinaloa. Nope. These are Yuppie Tacos. Light on the grease, heavy on the organic and the $. But theyre damn good. Unlikely your average taqueria, everything tastes fresh, and everything tastes _different_. Bonus points for the bottles of habanero sauce everywhere...

This is probably our favorite bunch spot in Berkeley. Lines are kept short with counter ordering but food is still delivered to your table with number cards. Everything is very authentic and tasty. In a world of bitter blonde coffee getting a nice spicy cafe de olla on a Sunday morning is a welcome refresher.

Its good! Try the Menudo. Like everything on 4th street though, parking is a monstrous hassle and theres no decent transit option. But the food has a real authentic feel to it, you can tell its made from high quality ingredients. Well definitely be dining here again... especially if somebody else is driving.

Summary based on several lunches: --good choice in the 4th Street area (see also Brennans and, farther afield, Viks) --better than average Mexican type food --better than ok counter type service --good parking except under crush conditions --two unisex bathrooms tucked in the back (good 4th Street resource)

Delicious, cheap mexican-style tacos and other entrees. I had an al pastor taco and a carne asada taco. Both were yummy, but the al pastor was my personal favorite. Also had some of their homemade lemonade - delicious and the perfect complement to the tacos.

Wow.... I mean wow. The food is just delicious! And the employees are friendly. I have tried the tortilla soup, the black refried beans, the sope, and much more and everything is delicious. I am from Mexico and this is real Mexican food. Great job!

Very casual but the flavor of the food we tried was excellent. Absolutely, it is something very special to experience. The mexican dishes are not spicy and allow you to enjoy and flavor the richness of the dish.

Tacos arent well served, me and my wife ordered al pastor tacos but they missed cilantro, onion, pineapple... same their tortas. I think its pricey for what you have. Food is tasty but no worth it.

Some of the best Mexican food in Berkeley. Mexican hot coco is fantastic! When youre there go next door to check out the gourmet market - and then the lady who sells flowers across the way!

Service was great at the counter but the person busing the tables was a little rude and the food was not very good. Gave me and my friend upset stomachs and we will not be going back.

Yes, its just counter service, but this is about the only real deal Mexican in this part of the East Bay. Less pricey than the main restaurant in Oakland, and no margaritas, though.

Something different for the Mexican/Central American flavor lovers. Original dishes you cant get anywhere else. This is a default stop for me if im in the area. Love it!

The little sister of the famous Dona Tomas of Oakland. Fancy Mexican dishes at a fraction of the price of the big restaurant. Frankly, I like this place better.

I really only go here for their happy hour which was two tacos and a beer for $8 or something. Hard to beat. I just wish parking in the area was easier.

I really enjoyed the pork taco with the avocado salsa and the fresh limanada. The 4th street retail district is really nice for an after dinner stroll.

Worst Quezadillas I have eaten ! Theyre were cold , flavorless and pretty expensive for the size and ingredients used. Very bad customer service.

Tacubaya is probably one of the more wallet friendly options for dining around 4th Street, but it is certainly no less delicious!

Tasty Mexican fare. Serves chilaquiles! Order at counter, they bring to your table. Service was okay, food was exceptional!
