This is the place in California that my wife misses the most. It a hole in the wall across from the Oakland jail. Its worth adventuring into the hole. The food is great the people a super nice and there is always a wide verity of customer. It makes you think, if all of these people from all different walks of life can come together and agree on what great food is. We should be able to get people from all those walks of life to agree on other more important issue. Were not all that different from each other.

This place is great! Not only are they the claimed oldest Mexican restaurant in Oakland (since 1927 according to the menu) but the food and decor are both fantastic. The portion sizes are enormous and they heat the plates so your food stays hot throughout the meal, which is a nice touch.

Interesting vibe... They dont have some of the standard offerings for burrito insides, notably missing are al pastor and carnitas. They have pork but Im not sure what exactly thats supposed to be. In their defense the burrito was enormous, easily the size of two normal super burritos

I used to go here all the time and it was almost always packed. I never did enjoy its windowless interior but you get a lot of okay food for not much money and it comes fast. These days well pay the extra and go to one of the La Penca Azul restaurants (formerly La Pinata).

Went there today for Fathers Day with my family. The food was horrible. I have been going to the Oakland location since I was a teenager. Used to be the best place to get real Mexican food. Not any more. The drinks were even watered down. Wont be returning.

This is a fun place to have lunch with friends. Its one of the old school american Mexican food restaurant. The service is quick and friendly. I like to get a combination plate and theyll sub out more rice if you dont want beans.

Drinks are the best in town...Im latin so I can cook better dishes at home but if u like huge portions of mexican food this is for you. The burger and the burrito on the menu doesnt disappoint

Food was delicious. I had al pastor tacos and lengua Mexicali Rose. The price went up to $1.40 per taco from $1.25, but Im not complaining. I will be back for sure.

Hit or miss with this place. One day the food was great the next it was just OK. This place really needs a upgrade to the interior. It hasnt changed in 30 years.
