The food is delicious. Not a super fancy atmosphere, but it doesnt need to be for you to enjoy their food. The menu is not expansive in items, but definitely adequate with Japanese restaurant staples. Ive been eating Japanese food regularly since I was little, and considering there was a 3-4 month period where I came here at least once a week, I think that maybe says something about this place, perhaps. I think they are sometimes slightly understaffed, because there are often times several empty tables and still people waiting at the door to get seated while waiters clear tables instead of seating the customers first. Service used to be slow and sometimes indifferent, but in recent times Ive noticed that has improved very much. This might be due to some staffing changes Ive noticed but all in all, its not a super expensive place, the food is good, so I cant complain too much. So! Go here for a low key and delicious Japanese meal! Things to get (I always do): both the tempura and unagi udons, kaki fry (FRIED OYSTERS!!!), unajyu, agedashi tofu. The chirashi is pretty decent, too. Not big on rolls as my personal preference is sushi or sashimi, but the rolls Ive tried were pretty good, too.

Vegetable tempura well prepared but the vegetables were tasteless--as was the carrot in the udon--and the salmon. On a street that abounds in terrific produce and the finest fish, how did they come up with this low grade stuff? Very indifferent service even though there were only two tables occupied--maybe it is empty for a reason. Japanese food depends on excellent ingredients. Did they think that it wouldnt be noticed? Why skimp on carrots?

This is the first and perhaps the only bad review Ill give a restaurant. The food was decent. The issue is related to tipping. I got food to go. I assuming tipping is only for services rendered when you eat AT the restaurant. When I got the credit card bill, they tacked on a tip for themselves. When did tipping become mandatory. Tipping is meant to reward good service. Never will come here again.

Fantastic sushi in one of Rockridges hidden gems. Not many people know that Mitama gets fresh sushi from the Tsukiji Fish Market in Japan. Absolutely fresh fish and amazing lunch specials. I cant help but love the Rainbow Roll and the Amberjack fresh sashimi pieces. Plus, if you like sake, Mitama definitely has a wide selection that Im sure youll enjoy.

This location is great for people watching - there are tons of windows, and during the day you can get some warm sunlight as well. Ive met friends here for both lunch and dinner, and I usually order the vegetarian bento box. The food is good, portion size works well for me, and their prices are great as well.

Mitamas food is pretty good, but the price and the service make it hard to recommend over the numerous other great Japanese options around Berkeley. Its a little higher-end than, say, Manpuku just down the road, so expect less college students and a slightly older crowd.

Perfect when you want really great sushi, but dont want to give up a right lung just to have a taste. My husbands go-to spot; hes never disappointed and finds everything consistently awesome.

This is my favorite sushi place. The fish is great, especially the daily fresh specials (from Japan). The service is friendly and non-intrusive. Prices are very reasonable for the quality.

Our favorite restaurant in the area. The tempura is always lightly crisped and the sushi is delicious! Weve tried various places around but always end up back here.

Simple place with good quality sushi. They have cooked food, but their specialty is sushi or noodles.

Sushi is fresh and very good especially for the price. See Japanese people devour their Ramen.
