If you google Indian food in Monmouth County this place comes up as the best or one of the best. And I agree, 100%. This is my favorite place for vegetarian food in the area. The vegetarian dinner where you get three items, soup, and naan for $17 is an amazing deal. And the food is incredible. Absolutely incredible. And Ive eaten a lot of Indian Food in my life - mostly in NYC. Also my boyfriend asks to go here pretty much every time we look at each other and say "whats for dinner." And before he met me he rarely if ever got Indian food. And hes fairly picky about what food hell give 5 stars to but Neelam gets the 5 stars. Every single time we go there! The consistency in the quality of the food means I never have to worry that Im spending $50 on dinner every week that is good some times and not so good other times. There has never been a meal where we didnt walk away going that was delicious. And the staff is also amazing. Whether you are eating there or taking out they treat you amazing. Its a real family atmosphere when you eat there.

I dont know what the "poor/fair" reviews are all about. They must either be from competition or people that just dont like Indian food and should just stick to McDonalds. The food is terrific, service is great, its immaculately clean and everyone that works there is always friendly. The lunch and dinner buffets are always great, but the holiday buffets (NYE, Diwali) are out of this world. Prices are also quite reasonable. One of the best Indian restaurants Ive been to and I have been to many.

Disappointing. This used to be a great place. Given the lack of Indian restaurants in the area, I really WANT it to be good - but it just isnt (as confirmed by my decision to give it one more try this last Sunday evening). I guess Ill go back to my routine of grabbing Indian take-out for the family on the way home from work (lots of great places in Iselin - of course - and one very good and relatively convenient that I found in Parlin NJ - Tower of India - not fancy - but great take-out!)

This was my first time in a while coming back to Neelam, and today, at their lunch buffet, my mom and I realized why this place was worth rediscovering. Neelam is much better than Amravathi in Matawan, and most everything they served this afternoon was a winner! Well most certainly be back, and if you havent tried Neelam yet, now is your time to do so! Hoping Neelam will be our new place for a long time!

Ive been here on occasion over the course of the past 13 years. Its always been owned by the same family, who are some of the kindest people Ive ever met. Im no Indian cuisine expert, but Ive tried several Indian places in my time and I always prefer here. The lamb pasanda is my all time favorite. They put on a very nice buffet on Tuesdays and Sundays, great for someone who is new to Indian cuisine!

Taste doesnt match the price of the food. Very slow service. We ordered veg appetizer(for 2) which was below par. Samosas were decent. Pakoras were not crispy and were less on salt and spice. Garlic and butter nans were not good and overly priced. I ordered masala chai which was not great. Overall this place needs improvement. "Taste Matters".

I came to neelam last night for dinner with my family of 5 and this place accommodated us very quickly. The food is great and the service is really good. What I would recommend eating is the roasted eggplant with peas and the lamb. Also, the shrimp is really good too. If you havent been here yet, you must check it out!

09/18/11, ed: Visited Neelam for Sunday Buffet. Very good assortment of vegetarian and meat dishes. All the veggie dishes were fresh, well seasoned and tasty. Service good without being too close. Wife enjoyed the Chicken Tandoor. I would recommend Neelam and will be back. NamaShivaya

Food was not fresh, stored food, same old food served which youll sense imm you taste it. Treatment given to customers with kids is very pathetic, this is certainly not a place to dine with kids...family with kids please avoid this, youll have to cleanup the restaurant by yourself ...

FINALLY. Delicious, local Indian food. Had the chicken korma, would definitely go back for that again. Huge menu and perfect portions. Very nice staff. You know a place is good when the dining room has a lot of people in it. Highly recommended :) Update 2 yr later, still awesome.

Always a wonderful experience! The best Indian food in Monmouth county, likely the best in the whole state! Been coming here for YEARS and the staff is always incredibly kind and the food is always spectacularl. Their buffet will leave you fat and happy!

The taste of the food is fine but not satisfactory., lots of oil in chicken curry which you will not even expect, dont know whether its usual or by mistake. Cost of the items are very high I will not prefer to go any time.

lousy. holdover from when there was no competition---shows in the name . Food mediocre, used to be aimed at a captive Bell System clientele in the days of yore. Improve or go away, should be the message for these people.

AMAZING. I never leave reviews for anywhere but this place deserves it. The $20 combo for takeaway is enough for 2 too, Id add a side of bismati and something to put on it though. Everything is a+++++++++

My husband and I love this restaurant. Spicy Tika Marsala is my favorite and they always know Ill order it but its the BEST. Lovely staff. We love to celebrate over a meal at Neelam as a couple.

Fantastic food and service, been going to this restaurant for more than ten years, they consistently provided the best Indian food around. Check out their buffet if you are new to Indian food.

I was impressed in my first visit a couple of weeks ago. Nice selection at the buffet, plenty of vegetarian choices, and more importantly, very flavorful. Highly recommended, Ill return.

I did not have a good experience here. I wanted to try another indian place in monmouth county and neelam failed me. The food did not taste fresh and the service was awful.

Been coming to Neehlam for many years and they are always excellent. Consistently the best Indian I have found in NJ including the many I have tried in NYC and Edison.

Best Indian place around. Buffet night on Sundays is a favorite. Family friendly, bring your own booze (they will give you a frosted chilled glass for your beer!).

Fantastic Indian food. Was a huge fan of the briani (not sure if that is how its spelled). I take my Indian friends here when they come to town.
