This place caught my eye because they had okonomiyaki which is pretty hard to find around here :( okonomiyaki is a japanese savory pancake if you didnt know :) Its located along the many restaurants on Castro Street so it can be easily missed if you werent looking for it. A coworker and I decided to come here for lunch and it was relatively quiet. The decor is modern and the place is really clean. The hostess/waitress was really friendly and she helped us with the menu. I wanted to get the bento box and try the seafood okonomiyaki but she advised that we just share the bento box and the okonomiyaki since the portions for both were large. She was right, when the food came out, the portions were large and so Im glad that she told us to share :) Seafood okonomiyaki: Theres 3 different flavors that they had: vegetable, bacon mochi( i have no idea what that is ) and seafood. Theyre all the same price and so we went with the seafood one. It was okay. There was a good amount of seafood but I felt like it was lacking shrimp, which they made up for in the amount of squid/octopus. The pancake was a little too mushy overall but the bottom and the sides were slightly crisp :D The flavor was alright, it was definitely savory but I felt there was something missing that wouldve made it awesome, but generally it was good. Bento Box: I got the mixed tempura and tuna roll. for their bento box you can pick 2 things that you want from a list. The mixed tempura was okay, they give you two shrimp tempura and the rest are vegetables/starches. The tempura was crispy but a little bland, they couldve used more salt. The tuna roll I didnt like too much, something about the tuna wasnt tasty. The bento box comes with rice, salad, and miso soup. It was a good amount of food. Overall this place is just okay. The thing that stands out to me about them is that they have okonomiyaki which is kind of hard to find in the bay.

My sister and I met a friend here for dinner and happened to arrive at the tail end of happy hour which ended at 7pm. We were craving Japanese food so izakaya style was perfect for us to share a couple of dishes. Happy hour standouts were the crispy sesame wings (finger-licking good) and kurobota pork buns which were served in a similar fashion to peking duck vs. char siu bao. We ordered all of their $3.5 sushi rolls -- favorites were the rocknroll and the spicy tuna. Sushi was satisfying but not amazing. The meat and veggie yakitori skewers were not that impressive either. The fruity soju drink didnt have much alcohol so maybe liquor pours are more generous during non-happy hour time. Despite the hustle and bustle of happy hour, service was quick and our tea and water cups were always full. Ambiance was casual but on the trendier side and there is table and bar seating and of course, mood lighting. Most of the tables seemed to be for 2-4 people so Im not sure if its the best for large parties. Tables have a decent amount of space between them and we were able to enjoy our conversation without shouting at each other across the table.

Terrible service ruined our experience. We had enjoyed the Ocean Trout Toro, Yakitori, and Chicken Karaage here last year, so have been looking forward to coming back, but ...After an evening of typical unpolished service (long hair of one server almost falling into our water glass, long fingernails of another touching the food she was serving, having to ask several times for more tea, etc), we were so eager to leave when we finally got our check, that we forgot a bag of lovely french pastries we had purchased on our way to dinner at our table. ~10 minutes later, we returned to the restaurant and gratefully picked up our bag, only to discover after leaving the restaurant that someone in the restaurant had taken 2 of the pastries from our bag! Left us speechless until now. Hopefully management will take the time to train your staff to run the restaurant well. Would love to be able to enjoy the food and the experience at Bushido.

This is one of those place that is greatly under-rated. Once you look beyond the usual menu items, this place is a real gem. It may not be the most authentic Japanese restaurant, but they definitely serves some quality food at a reasonable price. Their beef tongue skewers are the best beef I have tasted, ever. The way they cooked the beef tongues makes it crunchy on the outside, soft in the inside, and absolutely juicy in every bite. Their ocean trout sashimi is not only a sustainable replacement for farmed salmon, but also packs a much richer taste (read: umami!) that melts like butter in the month. The same can be said about their Kanpachi as well! Be sure to try their chicken karage buns and their mushroom fried rice as well. Last but not least, this place has a Sake Wednesday which offers their sake at half price. This extends to their sake flights, which lets you try different sake at a very cheap cost.

So this was our first time in a japanese restaurant. I bought a deal. So we went there and tried it. We didnt expect much and when I saw the menu I needed to google every second meal:) We didnt expect much! But it was surprisingly gooood! We tried a lot because the deal was about $50. By the way it was the evening before the deal was over so there were sooo many people and still the staff was very friendly. I felt so sorry for them, they had a loooot to do! The chicken yakitori were good (chicken skewer, also the asparagus wrapped in bacon were yummy. The best were the dumplings filled with potato and pumpkin. There were a few things I didnt like but I cant remember the names and its not their online menu. Japanese food is not really my thing but it was good to try it and it was very good! So if you like japanese food I bet its the right thing for you!

Not sure that I can properly put into words just how good every bit of this was! Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savory pancake containing a variety of ingredients. The name is derived from the word okonomi, meaning "what you like" or "what you want", and yaki meaning "grilled" or "cooked". Ours was made with noodles, cabbage, crab and squid. LOVED IT! Came to the table piping hot as did every other dish we had. The Chicken Karaage was very good, could have eaten the entire thing myself. The 3 Mushroom Fried Rice was another favorite, completely vegetarian but so rich and delicious! Service was very friendly and prompt. Interior decor is very nice but we opted to sit out front under the trees as the weather was gorgeous. I need to go back, soon. There are a lot of other items on the menu that I need to try!

Overpriced subpar food. Yakitori was overgrilled, mushroom salad had only two ingredients (and soy sauce for condiment) and seemingly no prep other than washing (assuming they washed it), okonomiyaki was mushy and tasteless, kuromitsu beef sinewy, and the same American sushi rolls can be gotten anywhere else without the meaningless fancy names. The dinner menu on the website is out of date and does not reflect the current pricing, which is 30-50% higher for every item. The servers were unattentive, they only stared out the door while we spent 15 minutes trying to get their attention to get more water. This restaurant put us in awe of how such embarrassing quality and clear demonstration of a condescending attitude towards customers can thrive in the business.
