As much as I looked forward to eating here and trying their ramen (I eat ramen everywhere I go) I was sadly not impressed. Dont get me wrong, the broth was delicious in the tonkotsu ramen, however the bowl seemed a little empty for the price of ramen. The ramen here did not include an egg and consisted of: 1 fish cake, a few bamboo stalks, 2-3 very thin (deli style) slices of pork. The noodles were also nothing special, there were a fair amount of them, but they seemed a bit over cooked. I also tried their sushi and ordered a spicy tuna roll which was not spicy in the least and virtually flavorless. Every last bit of the roll lacked in flavor even with the sesame seeds surrounding the rice. I will be returning to try other menu items, but if you are looking for phenomenal ramen, try Obon in the downtown area.

Ill be honest: I go to Ikkyu mostly for their ramen, which is only served Thursday through Saturday. This review is based almost entirely on their ramen, although I have had their bento boxes on occasion. First things first, and thats their broth. For their Tonkatsu ramen, the broth is simply excellent. One of the great dangers of ramen is a broth that is far too salty for its own good, and the staff at Ikkyu manage to prepare a broth that is both flavorful and well-balanced. The variety of ingredients in the ramen itself (naruto, pork, bamboo shoots, etc) is high, and adds to the meal without crowding the noodles. The service is fast, the staff are polite, and the prices are reasonable. This is a hole-in-the-wall that you dont want to miss if youre a fan of ramen, or Japanese food in general.

This place is right up the street from me, so I thought id try it out. Its more like japanese fast food than authentic japanese food. The dont serve saki. Ive never been to a japanese joint that didnt serve saki. I ordered the salmon bento box. the seaweed and squid salads were ok, the salmon was overdone, dry, and burned. How do you burn salmon?! The rice had obviously been cooked early in the day, as I could probably fill the cracks in my driveway with it. The price is cheap, which is reflected in the food. Ive never had bad japanese food, but I guess I have now. I wanted to like it, and I tried really hard cause I love japanese food, but I just couldnt. Sorry guys!

I really missed the taste of ramen that didnt come out of a cup since I havent had it for a few years. Ikkyu makes delicious ramen but the price you have to pay is to deal with rude employees who are sassy and give you rude looks. The first time I went, I was shocked with how badly the cashier treated me but I put up with it because I loved the food. Ive been there three times since then and each time I was met with awful service; it seemed like they didnt even want my money. Its such a shame because the food is cheap and delicious. I dont think ill be going there again, luckily theres more than just Ikkyu if youre looking for good food and staff.

The first time I went I wasnt very fond of their tonkutsu ramen, but Im not much of a pork gal, so I gave Ikkyu another try. This time my husband got the shoyu ramen and I tried the spicy tuna don. Both were delicious. :) Initially the cashier seemed a little offput by our question about the ramen being on the menu or not, but every other staff member was super nice. Overall I would say that its a great place to get Japanese food, but Ive still had better at other locations.

This is truly a hidden gem in Japanese dining that should be experienced by all. The staff is exceptional. They get to know you on a first name basis and make you feel like a friend rather than a numbered customer (imagine that!). I highly recommend their Teriyaki Chicken Bowl. Its lean, flavorful and hits the spot everytime. Oh, they have a sister restaurant "Samurai" on Oracle that is equally as good and is under the same family management. You will not be disappointed!! A+++

Not the best, shouldnt be in the top ten. Feels like a fast food restaurant. People hovering over you while you eat while they wait for their food. Broth taste watered down and lack of any deep rich flavor. Noodles were too soft and soup was way too hot to enjoy. Sushi selection was just rolls, no real sushi chef. For the price better off finding a dine in. For ramen itsoup worth the extra money. If you want cheap hotels noodles then this is your place.

I come here at least once a week for lunch and I LOVE it. It usually gets really busy around noon, so sometimes its difficult to find a table right away, but the wait is worth it. My favorites are The Special (teriyaki chicken over a pile of noodles and rice) and the Spicy Tuna Don Volcano Style. The outdoor patio is nice and they have misters to keep the temperature down a bit in the summer.

Tried eating here due to the reviews and was still amazed. It is always nice to hear the cooks confirm the special changes to an order as they give it out to make sure it is right, as well as seeing regulars saying they moved to the other side of town and still make the drive even on a Tuesday just to get their food here. Delicious, friendly, local, happy. All great reasons to visit and enjoy.

The food here is just great but the best part is how welcome the staff makes you feel when you get there and when you leave. Everything other than the ramen, which is only available on weekends, is served on foam plates. You order at the counter and pick up your own food when ready. Dont expect fancy plates but to expect great prices, food and service. Highly recommended!

I dont think the genuineness of reviews on Google to this restaurant. It absolutely does NOT deserve good. I ordered green iced tea. But they gave me a cup with a spoon of matcha powder and asked me to add hot water and ice. How ridiculous?! I also ordered Shrimp Tempera Udon. The tempura had a toothpick in it!!! WTH? But their food and price is ok.

Having never been to Japan, I have no earthly clue what "authentic" Japanese food is supposed to be like. However, the food is fast and I like it. Thats all I need. As far as I know, those living in Japan dont call their food "Japanese food" -- they just call it "food." Thats the way I see it. Its food and Im willing to pay for it.

Most amazing Japanese food in the SW! Locally owned with a nice low key environment. Hero makes the broth fresh every Thursday - Saturday for the ramen soup (I highly recommend that dish). Just a side note evenings it gets busy and its a small place. On the positive side they do have a patio and before 6pm its usually easy going.

I got the teriyaki soba noodle dish. It was very good. Traditional Japanese taste and style. They also have ramen on the weekends and evenings. The food was good and the price was fair. Also tried their gyoza pot stickers which were not very good. My wife had the spicy tuna sushi rolls and she loved them.
