Took my girlfriend here for sushi last night after reading other positive reviews. Our sushi was excellent. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the sushi chef there is top notch. Hes an older guy who really knows his stuff and seemed friendly. The service was good overall. The atmosphere and lighting left a bit to be desired and the bill was a little pricey, both of which kept this from being a 5-star review. We were very happy with our experience overall. I dont actually eat the raw stuff, but my girlfriend said her sushi was was excellent and fresh. As for myself, I loved the tempura appetizer, the miso soup was okay, but not quite strong enough for my taste, and my Makimono rolls were excellent. I have no problem giving Yamato a solid 4 stars.

Honestly everything was good. But the portions were small for the price. And they charge you double on the tea. If you order a karaf or kettle of tea, with only one cup? They double the price of it, without a refill, IF you ask for a second cup on that kettle. They charge you for a ghost kettle. Otherwise, If they lowered the price for the California roll and the shrimp rolls. Rating would be higher..

The service was good despite the full house. There was a 45 minute wait on the sushi and I honestly didnt mind waiting. Time flew vy because of the warm atmosphere and tasty appetizers. All of the food we ordered was just delicious. I am already planning another visit.

The best place in town. In Arizona. In the Southwest. Naguro is a classically trained sushi chef & bartender, and his humility is so refreshing- one of the kindest, most talented people we have met. He always remembers us & makes us feel at home. The food is INSANE!!!

Place was empty at 7:00PM on a Thursday. Seating and service was prompt and informal. Portion size was small for the money. Freshness was off on the squid. I mentioned it but was ignored. Probably will not come back.

I balked at the high dinner prices, and decided to order from the sushi menu instead. The sushi came quickly, but it was poor (both in quality and quantity) compared with the Japanese restaurants I ate at in Utah.

We have been there several times. It is the best Japanese restaurant in Tucson. It is not a big restaurant and the atmosphere is soso. However, the food is execellent! If you love sushi, you should go there.

Absolutely the best, authentic, Japanese sushi place in Tucson. Not a Korean "Japanese" restaurant, Yamato is the real deal. Not just good for Tucson, this place would be outstanding anywhere.

We been going here for years now and I still havent found a better place to eat sushi! Although they always run out of our favorite desert, mochi! Of course I understand why , its so good! :D

Chef Noboru is a master! Always sit at the counter and make sure to have his specials (French cured salmon and Mushroom sushi). This is by far the best sushi in the area.

Too expansive and nothing to write home about. Tucson sucks when it comes to choosing a restaurant but this one truly way too expansive for nothing special really .

One of our favorite places in town. High quality, great service, and much passion for sushi. This is our regular lunch spot and it NEVER disappoints.

A little pricey but worth it. Presentation is beautiful and flavor is amazing. Family owned and operated for 22 years.

45 minutes for 4 rolls, filled with wasabi, tiny portions for the price. Not good sushi.
