My daughter and I decided to have an early, light dinner at the La Encantada shopping center during our weekend trip to Tucson. RA Sushi appealed to our appetites and did themselves proud. We decided to sit indoors at the indoor/outdoor bar. Despite outdoor temps in excess of 105 and the fact that the entire patio wall was open, where we were sitting was a comfortable temp (probably high 70’s) making a pleasant al fresco dining experience. The bartender (slash) waiter was attentive and cheerful, and didn’t mind answering our many questions. For our meal we chose Cucumber Kimchee, Seaweed Salad, Edamame Wontons and Scallop Dynamite Roll. The only thing ordinary about this meal was the seaweed salad. This is the same no matter where you go. The rest of the meal was stellar! All three of the other items we ordered were new to us. We had made our choices based on the bartender’s suggestions and were thrilled with the results. The cucumber’s natural cool sweetness combined with the mild spiciness of the kimchee sauce was a perfect side for on hot day. Including edamame with the cream cheese in a fried wonton skin added a delightfully nutty flavor to this old standby. But the Scallop Dynamite Roll was by far the best part of the meal. One serving was plenty to share and both of us came away from this meal quite full. Wrapping up. For drinks, my daughter had Kirin beer, I had Sterling chardonnay and the bill was under $50. By the time we finished the sun was setting and it was cooling down outside so we decided to explore the shopping center. Due to the day (Sunday) and the hour most shops were closed but the offerings are an interesting assortment and we promised ourselves we’d come back.

Ra Sushi: mediocre sushi, high prices, obnoxious atmosphere, poor service. Really the sushi was just okay, but it was easily the worst Ive had in Tucson, and thats including the Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet sushi. Our server (Nick) was actually really good and attentive, unfortunately the kitchen did everything they could to sabotage his work. The food came out at drastically different times, even the non-sushi items. It took them about 45 minutes to assemble their chicken topped salad while the sushi was coming about 10 minutes after we ordered. A stir-fry dish came about 25 minutes after ordering, but before the spring rolls. The only sushi that was decent was a vegetarian roll, which is kind of telling wrt the freshness of their meats. The Unagi sushi was a tiny portion, 2 small pieces, despite being one of the more expensive sushi items. At 8pm the happy hour begins which meant the prices were about fair for the quality. Unfortunately, 8pm also coincided with the music being cranked and the lights dimmed. It really didnt seem like anyone was happy with the volume of the music being jacked, conversation was over for the evening. Even at the outside seating the music was obnoxiously loud. Apparently the management for RA would rather be running a night club than a restaurant, too bad theyre completely inept at doing either.

Extremely dissatisfied! There were 6 people in our party. After being there for an hr finally everyone was being served their sushi as well as hot food except myself. I had two sushi rolls and had not been served anything. When I asked the server why I had not been served she replied "We serve it in waves. WAVES? If you are going to serve your food in waves you might want to make sure every one has fun at the beach! One of my friends had already caught two waves and was ready to go lay out on the beach, another friend was done eating and attacked by a shark while two others with full bellies were trying to save him. My last friend had eaten her roll and was almost had 3 degree burns from basking in the sun by the time I received my sushi. After two hrs some of the food never arrived so we had to cancel it. Portions were extremely small,Sushi average, I called later to talk to the manager and he was EXTREMELY RUDE! In the future, I will give my business to SHO GUN, SUSHI ON ORACLE, TAKAMATSU, SUSHI YUKARI AND SAKURA.... There are much better choices out there than RA. Good luck to you if you visit RA. Hope you catch at least one wave.

Bottom Line - Consistently delicious sushi that is great for diners who appreciate quality at an affordable price. Service: 4/5 Even though it tries to be hipster-ish in the vibe, the service has always been solid. The waiters are attentive but not hovering, and the orders are correct. Personality. 4/5 Definitely an establishment with a prescribed vibe. One of the charms of this place is that during lunch it seems relaxed and laid back, while around Happy Hour and beyond, it gets lively and loud. I appreciate the 80s Alternative music that is playing. (Love Vigilantes !!) Quality: 5/5 While this isnt the Jinro quality, it is very consistent. Other than the age range of the diners between this one and the one in Las Vegas, the presentation and flavor are the same. Recommendation 4/5 Ok for families during the day, great place for a lively drinks and dining date at night.

Its funny because before you start writing in the review box it says What did you like about it? and I can unequivocally say nothing. The first sign of a bad sushi restaurant is that you smell fish on the way in. Second sign: theres more mayonnaise and Sriracha in the roll than fish. Although thats probably what makes the sushi somewhat edible. I would steer clear of this place, the only things youre going to get is heartbreak and heartburn. The service is always terrible despite what anyone says. Its sad that people think that this establishment is actually serving sushi. And trust me, all the other items on the menu are terrible trying to be trendy twists on Asian inspired American food. If you want great sushi including rolls, nigiri, and cooked food mosey on down to AJs Fine Foods on the southwest end of La Encantada. TLDR: Run for your life (and financial well being).

Boo. this place felt like a silly joke, the sushi chefs must have brain damage from the insane music because not one of our rolls stayed rolled and it was just a mess to eat. it was like some alice in wonderland sushi place where everyone was eating california rolls while they got drunk and just laughed as loud as possible. i felt like I was an extra in some teenage chick flic about the popular rich girls, needless to say i was embarassed to be in there. if youre 16 and wanna pretend your 21 and Looooove Sushi feel free to party with the rockstars at Ra, but i will head on back to Ichiban for an actual sushi bar experience.

One reason why everybody in Tucson should go to Ra at least once and that is the Viva Las Vegas Roll. It has all the flavors that you can ask for in a sushi roll and has excellent texture to it. The Viva Las Vegas Roll is just something to experience. My determining factor for a sushi restaurant is if they have a good Unagi, which is Eel, and it was fantastic. All and all, I got good vibes from the place, excellent interior design, very nouveau. I just wish they have Uni (Sea Urchin) in stock for me to try that day.
