Not sure how this place got such good reviews. Upon reading the reviews here, my wife and I decided to take our 2yr old. It was on a Sunday at around 9am. There were maybe 6 tables in the restaurant, so not that busy. It was a seat yourself, we waited about 10 mins before a server came by. She was pleasant, nothing incredible. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with a side of corned beef hash, wife ordered the single pancake with scrambled eggs and sausage. We both got coffee (if you can call it that). I appreciate a good cup o joe as much as the next guy, but this brew was flavorless and was worse than typical watered down "diner" coffee. Biscuits and gravy were ok. The corned beef hash should be taken off the menu. Creamed style "corned beef" with a some cubed hash browns is not corned beef hash even by a stretch. Think spam in a blender with some water and a few cubes of potatoes. Wifes pancake and eggs were good. Sausage was burned on both sides. Im a food snob but I know where to set my expectations. We paid $17, not including tip. For that price, Mickeys Dairy Bar or even Crema Cafe or Manna Cafe (amongst others) for $20 are better choices

I love that its classic home cooked food for affordable prices. No fancy frills. They dont push or promote certain menu items like a chain restaurant does. Its just great basic food.every town has a place like this that the locals know and love. Staff is great and the food is cooked very well. Its a comfortable place that you can go for a cup of coffee or bring the whole family for a big breakfast or brunch. Ive had some meals that werent the greatest when they were slammed and busy, but I will keep going back because I love Cottage Cafe.

Good food at cheap prices. The staff have been very friendly. Theyre fairly quick too. If youre someone who is watching your carbs/starches, you can sub in cottage cheese for the potatoes! Good cinnamon rolls! A negative is that whenever someone gets the special, they often forget to bring out the juice that comes with it... Thats even after asking what kind of juice is wanted! (Fortunately I actually dont care for it... Too sweet)

This is a standard diner. I had breakfast there. The coffee was typical diner coffee, which I enjoy. The portions were filling, hot, and tasty. The staff was friendly and prompt. We at at the counter, so we always had full coffee cups and water glasses. Avoid the pie - it tasted a little strange and seemed like it had been sitting in the case for a few days. The prices are very reasonable.

I really like the "Cottage Cafe". Even when the place is extremely busy and they have a waiting list you can usually get a table within 5-10 minutes. The prices are more reasonable than some of the other "cafes" around town and the food is just as good. They are family friendly and will bring the kids coloring supplies and a little treat of cold cereal while they wait.

OMG they have THE BEST biscuits & gravy! Their prices & atmosphere are reminiscent of easier times & the staff there are a hoot! Always friendly, chatty & fun. Im there at least once a month for my B&G fix. Their breakfast menu is HUGE & DELISH!! One of the best locally owned, family run, places around Madison!

This place is a best kept secret of Madison. The food is really good (I love the Potatoes OBrien), the service is attentive, and the prices are excellent. It is only open for breakfast and lunch, so dont try to come by after 2pm. It sometimes takes a few minutes to get a table on the weekends.

This is my favorite breakfast spot and have lived hear for 10 years and cant find a better place. Reasonable prices, and a great wait staff. The kids get a little container of fruit loops to tide them over until meal comes along with something to color. Never disappointed when I dine here.

Best omelette I ever had! If youre visiting from out of town and looking for something better than the standard stuff off the expressway, visit this place. I found it by googling restaurants near me (stayed at Crowne Plaza) and found it. Great choice!

We went here for Sunday breakfast. The place was full but they seated us right away. The pancake was fluffy and the size of a dinner plate. Raisin toast was also good. Typical diner fare, but really friendly staff and low prices. We would return.

Quick service with a real smile. Great hashbrowns, eggs were perfect, coffee was good and regularly refilled. One waitress even brought little cups of cereal for my sons to keep them occupied while we ordered and waited (a short time) for food.

Apparently the person who wrote the previous review ate there once, and on a good day. The wait staff are not the best, not even close. The food and price is ok, so if you like waiting for even one refill of coffee, this is the place for you.

I ordered my food and everything was burned and under cooked and I explained that to the manager she was really rude and snappy I asked for my money back and she practically threw it at me will not be going back

Service was so-so, but food was some of the most tasteless I have ever tried; left most of it on the plate. The servers response was next time they would try to get it better. There wont be a next time.

Its a prototypical Midwest diner. Check it out if you dont mind average coffee and food that is a bit greasy. The prices are low (I was full on $6.50 worth of food) and the waitstaff are pleasant.

Very nice spot. Went today for the first time. Good food, excellent waitstaff that will call you Darlin, and a good crowd. Good place to go if you want to avoid pretentious Madisonians.

Theyre just awesome here. The bacon is spot on and not over salty like a lot of diner style eats around Madison, and the french toast is some of the best in town.

A great local breakfast and lunch cafe that elevates "greasy spoon"dining to its highest art form. Staff is friendly and gets to know their regulars.

Standard fare old style diner, perfectly acceptable food but nothing over the top. Was extremely busy on a Saturday morning so watch out for that

Get the Crab Cakes Eggs Benedict. You will not be sorry. Popular with the older folks that know a good deal. Go there to eat. Not to "be seen".
