I am giving this 3 stars because we all thought the food was delicious. The wait staff was horrendous! We did not have a reservation and were told there was a 20-30 minute wait, so we decided to wait. The waiting area has some tables and what appears to be a bar. We were handed a drink menu and when we decided and tried to order we were told they could not get us a drink as they were all too busy waiting on and bussing tables! In our 30 minute wait, we never got a drink. We waited forever for the one glass of water we had for the evening. Our water glasses were never refilled, we were never asked if we wanted a second cocktail. Every time a server came to our table (there were a total of 4 throughout the night) they apologized for the wait, the slow service etc., but it never got any better, The place was full, but I do not think that was the reason for the poor service. This has to be the worst run place we have ever dined at. One person in our party ordered a martini with an olive. When it arrived, no olive, but a promise of one soon. It was at least 10 minutes until the olive showed up. Our food was tasty, but small portions and pricey. We had a gift certificate, but failed to let them know ahead of time. I am pretty sure they tack on 18% for having the gift certificate!!! We noticed the sign on the way out to tell them prior to ordering that you have one. I wonder if our service would have been even worse then??? All in all we were there over 2 hours and had the worst service of our lives! I cant imagine not wanting to improve it. Judging by the other reviews here we were not the only ones to experience this.

Their food is good, but the service is lacking. The place is very poorly lit and food is slow to come. Reading reviews on Yelp, I noticed Im not the only one whos received poor service. Heres my story: Weve been there are few times and we always order carryout. Weve ordered in the restaurant before, but this last time was horrendous. We start to place our order for 3 dishes (two entrees, one appetizer) and in the middle of taking our order, the young lady excused herself and took care of 3 other tasks before coming back to us. It took her approximately 3 minutes to return. After ringing us up, she informed me the wait would be 20-25. I was surprised at how long it was, but went outside to wait anyway. After waiting for around 10 minutes, some people came in and were seated outside. They placed their order and about 15 minutes later, they got their food. I went in to check on things and was told our food would be ready soon. 5 minutes later, noticing how long wed been waiting, the other waitress tells us shes going to check on our food for us. After another 5 minutes I got up go in and ask for my money back and the first girl coming out with our food. We were offered no apology for the wait, nor any explanation why people who arrived after us were served before us. They were not especially busy and the dishes we ordered were simple and should not have taken 35 minutes regardless. Well not be going back. There are lots of other good asian restaurants in the city to patronize..

Its unfortunate to see that some people have been having problems with the service. Ive been there about 7 or 8 times and have generally gotten decent service, and in some cases really great service. Im a vegetarian (actually, a vegan) so when I go to a restaurant I look for veg options on the menu as well as a staff that understands what the term means. There is a waitress there who is vegan and is always very helpful. There is a Vegetarian section on the menu, which makes things a little easier. Most of all what I like is that the food is DELICIOUS (at least what I get is!). My favorites are Tahu Goreng and Oseng Oseng Tempe (Tempe Goreng and Sambal Goreng Tempe also). Im practically drooling right now thinking about it. :-) Plus they serve a pre-dinner snack of hmm... I dont know what they are - some kind of airy garlicky chips. Theyre unusual but tasty in a mellow way. They do seem to prefer reservations but they usually have seating for small groups even without reservations. The ambience is quiet and cozy. Definitely worth a try - I hope they get smart and fire whoever the poor wait staff is so that people will be able to see past that and enjoy the great food the place has to offer.

Food was good - *very* savory and tasty. Main dishes were generous, but the appetizer was a little on the small side (it was a special, though, so maybe thats to be expected). If you like spicy food, though, the markings that indicate spiciness should be taken with a grain of salt (haha); one of our party doesnt like spicy food at all and my "spicy" dish was fine for her palate. Staff was all very friendly. Atmosphere where we were sitting in the back left something to be desired - there was a pile of restaurant equipment poorly hidden behind a couple artificial fig trees. I think other tables would have been pretty nice though. We went on a Living Social deal, and the price with $15 off was very reasonable. The normal prices would have been OK, but not a great value.

Bandung offers a great overall dining experience (nice decor, great service), and fantastic food! Their Opor Ayam is particularly fantastic, and their tasting menu is a good way to get to know the different flavors in Indonesian food (especially if you have at least two people). Some of their dishes are, as other reviewers have said, a little bland, but most of their dishes are very well spiced (though for the most part not spicy). Their desserts are also great, especially the chocolate lava cake. We eat there regularly and love it! Our only real complaint is the kind of freaky carousel music always playing in the background, but this is easy to ignore.

This was my first time having Indonesian food (at least, that I can remember as an adult). I was here in a group of 7 and they gave us complimentary tempeh chips that were interesting in a good way. I ordered the beef rendang and my girlfriend had the opor ayam. I thought my beef was pretty good but the broccoli that came with it, although it tasted fine, seemed out of place. The opor ayam was way too salty for my girlfriend so we ended up swapping plates in the middle of the meal and it was pretty salty for me, too. But, you know, gotta be a good boyfriend and all that. We had no problems with the service or anything of that sort.

5 stars from me. The food is great. I have been reading reviews. If you need speed why not tell the waitress you would like your bill after the food comes that you are on a time schedule. If you want spice ask for it. Prom will fix it however you want. I like spice so I ask for it. I have never had even the slightest negative food. One writer compared The Bandung to Thai food. This is not Thai. I have eaten in Indonesia and this is so close. I am not vegetarian so I ask for meat in the egg plant curry. Im pleasantly fed everytime. In one corner is an angklung. How many readers and hopefully diners can play that?:)
