This place deserves a 9.5 out of 10 after I visited this place for the first time with the intent of leaving a review for Google maps. Not only was I surprised with how well the food was, but the customer service along with the environment was amazing. Food: An absolute 9 out of 10. It was very "home made" like and had an extremely large selection of different styles of food. Another benefit was their ala cart section where for a low price you can add almost whatever you want. Customer Service: Definitely a 10 out of 10. While the servers where extremely friendly, helpful, and always there when you needed someone, the best thing about them was their speed. While they were able to provide a quick friendly conversation about their food, weather, almost anything, yet they were extremely quick and didnt sit around and chat all day. Environment: 8.5 out of 10. Their name "Altoona Family Restaurant" was exactly fitting to the hue one feels when inside. While it was very family filled, and somewhat warming, it was a little packed and things were constantly moving. This may seem unpleasant, but it is extremely nice simply because there is plenty of room to sit and enjoy a personal conversation, without having to shout, while also not having to worry about getting bumped or run into while enjoying their food. Prices: 10 out of 10. Their prices are amazing. What one gets is much much more than what one pays. An example would be a Western omelette (approx. 3inchs wide, 10inches long, and 1.5inches thick), Hash-browns (approx. the same size as the omelette), and two pancakes (approx. 6inches in diameter) all for only $6.69. This is just one example of the amazing deals they have. Negatives: The only two negative things I have with the "Altoona Family Restaurant" are 1; It is always filled with loads of families that all are enjoying the amazing food, and 2; It was so good and I was to full to eat everything they had twice. Overall: A 9.5 out of 10. Again it is cheap, has amazing service and atmosphere, and provides some of the best "home-made" style food one can have in the Eau Claire area.

After driving around for about an hour looking for a café-style restaurant, we stumbled upon this little gem. We were a little worried about the amount of cars in the parking lot (and in the street) and feared a long wait; as we were very hungry. The restaurant was packed and people were waiting in line to get a table. However, we were seated within 10 minutes and our experience continued to get better. The wait staff was genuinely friendly and attentive. Their logo "your coffee cup is never empty" is true to the last drop. Our order was taken promptly (remember the house was packed!) and our food delivered with little wait time. Food quality, presentation and flavor was superb by any standard, let alone a little restaurant on the outskirt of town. If you ever have a reason to drive through Eau Claire, WI make sure you make a short drive to Altoona Family Restaurant, you wont be sorry you did!

Altoona Family Restaurant has the best home style food around. It is however packed most of the time. It seems like everyone goes there. The atmosphere is great. I love their coffee. It is always Fresh and not too strong. You get a lot of food for your money. It is not a restaurant that I would order a burger and fries at. It is a restaurant that I would enjoy a great home cooked meal. For Breakfasts you must try their pancakes. They will melt in your mouth that is how good they are. They make the best omelets. For Dinner try their home style foods. They have so much to choose from so I really dont know where I would begin with their menu. The Staff: Fast and Friendly. Always courteous. The Atmosphere: Calming, relaxing. A good place to take a first date for a great impression. Service: A 10 I recommend Altoona Family Restaurant to all of my friends.

The food was pretty good, and I was please to see they have a greek omelet (My favorite) on their menu. I personally like Chippewa Family Restaurant better. I know theyre owned by the same people, but CFR has always been amazing. The reason I gave AFR 3/5 stars is because the service was poor. I went with my boyfriend (were both 22) and our waitress didnt really come and check on us and didnt seem friendly. When she was tending on other tables (the other customers seemed to be 50+ in age) she was friendly and kept coming back. I dont know if it was because we were young, or what was going. My best assumption is she wanted a good tip, and young people generally dont tip well. If only she knew I always tip 20% for good service. Oh well. I would recommend this place to a friend, but to me its worth the extra trip to go to Chippewa.

I love the Altoona Family Restaurant!! My life hasnt been the same since I went there. Me and my friends love it there and even refer to it as AFR. I wouldnt be surprised if they started calling us by name. They have a LARGE variety of food and everything I have tried has been AMAZING. Their omelets are the best I have ever had and the cod sandwich was delicious. This place is perfect for college kids like me or families looking for a usual place to eat because you get a lot of good quality food for the price you pay. I even took my parents there when they came to visit and now thats the only place they will go when they come up. Go there now!!!

I was here back in the summer when I went camping in Wisconsin, and I was absolutely impressed by the food and service that was provided. You are not stuck with just one server the entire meal, nearly everyone that works there (including management) helps out each table, makes sure every table has full glasses, check on food, cleaning up tables and seating new customers down right away. The service was so in sync I must have sat there a good 10 minutes just watching how efficient the staff was. It was truly a treat for us to eat at this restaurant and hopefully look forward to eating there again when I go through WI again.

Good food, great prices. I like this place. When I visit from San Francisco I always make a point of going. Cant find this kind of good ole comfort food in San Francisco. Let me correct that comment yes you can find this kind of food in San Francisco but you will pay an arm and a leg and get only 1/2 of what you get at Family Restaurant. Keep up the good work.

We went here after hearing rave reviews from a number of people. We were very disappointed. The owner spent a lot of time talking to other customers who seemed to be his friends, but virtually ignored our table, even when we tried to flag him down. Service was mediocre and the food was bland. All in all, rather disappointing. We havent had any desire to return.

One of the best restaurants in the area. They are well known for their great food and great service. Even though the service is excellent, dont expect your food immediately, because it is always busy( because everyone loves it there). I dont know the owners, but I heard they are very nice people as well. Highly recommended.
