My husband and I have been frequenting Meskel for almost 20 years, from when it started near Seattle U. While we have never tried the kitfo, weve tried just about everything else! Im wondering about some of the reviews - and am thinking that they are planted from one of the many other Ethiopian restaurants or their supporters: especially the one which [falsely stated that] Belaynesh was angry because the party of 15 didnt spend enough money. (Actually, this statement made ME angry and Im thinking that individual should take down that defamatory comment post haste.) We have always been warmly welcomed and, in fact, know that Belaynesh treats customers almost like family members. Now, sometimes Belaynesh has waitresses, but all have been extremely sweet natured: so much so that I can NEVER imagine any of them saying such a thing to a customer! We have eaten at many other Ethiopian or Eritrean restaurants around - and, so far, no other restaurant can compare. (Although we were really extra fond of Fanas Cuisine, now Chicken Express.) The food, service, and everything are perfect here.

Food here is great! We come here a few times a year, and often in large groups. We have tried almost everything but the Doro Tibs is our fave. Their injera is excellent. The service is fine--this is a restaurant in a house style, and the servers feel like they might be family or friends of the owners. Many speak little English. But it totally doesnt matter and doesnt take away from the great experience. My only complaint, which is a recent development: you can no longer share meals. My husband and I always shared and now cant which is a bummer. We liked that we could fill up on good food for about $20. A plate of food is around $15 without tax/tip.

This was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had - bar none. Our group of 15 who was expected with a reservation, was treated extremely rudely by the owner, who was angry because, and she stated this to me, "the $317 we spent during the 2 hours we were there was not enough money" for her! The food was OK but the woman was so irrational and angry, I would never go back and would encourage people not to frequent this business.

The food is good but finally walked out after my last visit when I ordered and the waitress wouldnt stop argueing with me that I couldnt share my dish at all with anyone. We ordered two entrees and it wasnt a all you can eat dish or anything. This isnt the first time service was a bit weird on the verge of rude but dealt with it because the food was good. To say the least not going back anymore.

This place is so good! I have been to pretty much all Ethiopian restaurants in Seattle and this is my favorite. Honestly, everything at this restaurant is just cleaner and nicer. The food is by far my favorite and so flavorful. The spices are so exciting but not too spicy..just enough for my liking. I would for sure recommend this place. I bring all my friends to this place and it never fails!

I dont want to make it harder to get a table but definitely want to offset the reviews complaining about the service. Ive been to Meskel numerous times, they may not hear you walk in but once they realize youre there theyre very attentive. And the food is amazing. Very good every time Ive gone. Especially the green chicken!

Good food (not my favorite). However, the service is inconsistent, often bordering on rude, other times friendly. One of the few Ethiopian places in my area that has outdoor seating available, so thats a huge plus and in the summer makes it worth the gamble on the service.

This place has a beautiful outside but the food was terrible and worse was the proprietor. They shooed us out after eating mumbling something about being insulted. There are lots of other great Ethiopian restaurants nearby, but this one is to be avoided

Great food, large serving sizes, great value for money, and the staff are understanding of people who dont commonly eat Ethiopian cuisine - we got all the dish recommendations and explanations that we needed.

Tasty food but the portions were small. Most dishes were around $14 but I wouldnt pay more than about $11. Fast but less than friendly service. The place is also a little too dumpy to justify the prices.

Food is excellent compared to other places weve tried. Great outdoor seating. Service is superb. Parking can be hard as its residential street parking. Highly recommend the spicy beef dish.

My favorite Ethiopian restaurant so far. Food and service are always excellent, which keeps us coming back instead of exploring some of the others in the area.

Amazing food. The atmosphere is perfect too, with incredible service. The system that worked there was great with my daughter and loved playing with her.

The waitress was super nice. The place was clean. They got my order fast, but maybe because the restaurant was empty and there were no other customers.
