Update: 7-10-16 We just went back for another shot and OMG totally impressed!! I would say this is the best sushi in all of Seattle we have had. The fish was amazing in texture and flavor. The rolls had large pieces of fish and great melt in your mouth flavor! The sushi chef even made mini nigiri for our young son, phenomenal! Previous post from when they just opened: Well, we were pretty excited when we saw a new sushi restaurant was coming to MV! We love sushi and havent found our favorite local place yet. We went at 6pm on a Friday and sat for 10 minutes with not even an acknowledgement. We were discussing the menu and what to order our toddler when the table next to us warned that the chef quit and none of the hot items were available. Then we finally flagged someone down and he said he could take our order. In another 10 minutes we finally got our drinks and edamame. The juice we ordered for our son was actually water and the edamame were room temp like they were left out soggy and the sake was maybe luke warm. During the discussion about our drinks with our selves we were observing another table that sat 5 minutes after us which was served food. When they asked what it was, the server told them, and they said they didnt order it. The server then brought it to another table after setting it down. Then they brought more food to this table and they inquired again what it was, and it wasnt what they ordered but they were eating it. (They still didnt have their drinks!) So after watching this disaster and the wait staff walking around confused, we did something we have never done. Left We paid for our sake that we barley touched and never did see any food, or the fresh edamame we asked for. I wish I could comment about the sushi but we didnt have any, and hot food was not available. I know they have only been open a few days but it seriously seemed like it was a high school fundraiser or something. Not the awesome quality sushi experience we were hoping for.

I learned about this new sushi place in Maple Valley from searching for a new place to eat via Groupon. It is located at the end of Maple Valley Center, in the former location of Big Apple Deli. We dined at 6 pm on a Sunday evening. They close at 8 pm. We were warmly greeted by all staff in Japanese. The menu was colorful with accurate photos of the appetizers, rolls, entrees and more. The prices were good, even without the Groupon. The atmosphere is nice and quaint, with chalk drawings of Japan and a rendition of The Great Wave off Kanagawa, with Mount Fuji, later learned that were drawn by the owner & sushi chef. My wife ordered the sashimi appetizer sampler with some tempura, my son had a veggie udon, and I ordered a roll named the Super Star, a crunch roll with cream cheese, with ahi, salmon and a special sauce on the outside. It is appropriately named, and I will have to resist not ordering it again, and try other rolls. The server answered our few questions throughout the meal, such as if there was any meat in the California Roll (in the imitation crab), and where they got their delicate green tea (from a Japanese vendor), which was complimentary at the end of our meal. The server boxed the rest of my sons udon to take home. And the staff all thanked us and said goodbye in their native language. Highly recommend this place, and we shall return. Ill have to try some nigiri up at the sushi bar.

AWESOME! Who doesnt like this place? Then go to Seattle if you dont because this is the most legit Sushi house on the East Side. I have no idea if the "West Side" has any decent houses considering most of the "West Side" is ghetto. Thankfully Sumosushi is here and they have amazing customer service, great atmosphere and AMAAAZING sushi! The Sake is great too~ well priced and try the lighter versions they are yummy. If you wanna get smashed get some stronger Sake but plan to stay a while or have a driver! This is a Sushi house for people that LOVE Sushi, or Japanese dishes. OHhhh the Octopus is to die for try it.. and try the Ikura rolls. Well I could go on and on about how good this place is, but instead Ill just give them my money ^_^

We were well greeted and got seated quickly. Looking around the floors were dirty, noticed broken furniture and tables with dishes on them for significant length of time. They gave us menus but it was almost pointless as they didnt have any bento boxes or many of the items on the entree list. We basically had two options Katsu or Udon...not teriyaki anything was available. So it was that and Sushi. The Katsu was well ... Katsu...nothing special. They did give us extra salad and Miso soup because they didnt have the bento boxes like we wanted. The Sushi was ok, but pieces were way too big. The flavor of the Sushi was ok as well. Would we go back? Probably not.

Went here the other night for the second time. It was a lot busier than the first time we went, and they had remodeled a bit. First, we got the Appetizer Sampler. The calamari, korokke, and egg rolls were really good but the GYOZA was probably the best Ive ever had. I dont know what it was, but all the flavors and sauce were perfect. We also got some edamame that was really good as well. We got a Mega Crunch. It was definitely crunchy and good, but not the best one that night. We also got a Midnight Roll. It was a little too "mushy" for our taste. The Spider Roll was our favorite. We got it without masago.

Half-hearted efforts in sushi and in Korean cuisine. They have a surprisingly good selection of sushi. However the quality of that sushi is low and the cuts of the sushi made them flaccid and rather tasteless rather than melting in ones mouth. As for the Korean side of the menu, the bibimbap was served in a normal porcelain bowl rather than the traditional hot stone bowl which completely ruins the experience (no crispy rice bits). Further, the Miso was pre-packaged Kikkoman miso and I could not recommend it to anyone. All in all, a disappointment and I would not return.

Heart shattering. Ive heard really good things about this place. But honestly I wouldnt step in to this garbage resterait again because the sushi taste like plastic and doesnt compare to any other sushi because its that bad and Im not trying to say it is not close to tasting as good as Mizu or Blue trappers cause that sushi Id still pretty bad. Overall if your trying to explore its not worth the money, If I was you, make your way closer to the city cause its worth the money down there.

WOW!!! Great sushi, Ive been comparing the WA locations to AFloat Sushi in Pasadena, Ca & so far the only 1 that can hold its ground is this place, SUMO SUSHI!! Price was good and the sushi was great!! Love the atmosphere they have in there. Got full off of only 3 plates which doesnt usually happen. Definitely taking my family here when they come back up. Good job Sumo, good job

We had a great experience here on a Sunday evening. The service was welcoming, friendly and prompt. We ordered three rolls and loved them all but the SEARED SALMON ROLL is FABULOUS! Definitely order one when youre there. Prices are reasonable, especially we thought on the house hot sake.
