Prices have slightly gone up and the place is regularly busy now, but its still a good place for some Japanese food and sushi for the price. Obviously it was better before it became known and popular especially with the old prices but still a good deal. This is like a small hole in the wall as this place does not care about exterior or interior aesthetics. Newcomers will certainly question both. But the food has been consistently good for the price. There might be a long wait before you can even order because usually it is only a 1 or 2 person show running the place. You do not get fancy expensive sushi rolls covered in sauce, but you do get several options of all freshly made sushi--and you get plenty for the price and not overly riced. The sushi has always been consistent and fresh and I have been going here for 2 years. Their bento/meal plates are on par with most other Japanese restaurants who serve the same thing but here you get more for your money an in fact its probably cheaper. They use to take phone orders but now they seem to be too busy that they no longer do so unless you get lucky.

Food is great the place itself not so much. Came here because it has good reviews but when we walked in my first impression was not so good. The place is so small and the few tables they have are so crowded together. We literally had to squeeze ourselves into the place. So we decided to try anyways. Nobody greeted us when we walked in. We had to be informed by a customer, waiting for her food, to walk up to the register and order. So we ordered the special of the day teriyaki chicken with gyoza. We waited for about 15-20 minutes for our food. When it arrived wow! it looked amazing...great presentation and lots of food. California rolls are amazing. Were definitely coming back . Husband says he has a new favorite place for Japanese food.

I got the Teriyaki/Sashimi combo and a beer for under 20 dollars. The portions are HUGE and the tuna alone was 8 pieces that the night before in Sacramento was like 30 dollars. This place is tiny but the prices and portions make up the best deal I have ever had on the road and I am traveling weekly. Kudos to all the reviewers as they were spot on! I would like to mention the asian lady behind the counter as she was very nice and helpful. Great experience and I suggest it to anyone that is near San Jose for some good cheap tasty food!

The definition of hole in the wall. Theres enough space for two dozen packed shoulder to shoulder. Expect to be waiting in line to order, especially at lunch. Huge amounts of food for an inexpensive price - costs $10 for a huge bento box of chicken teriyaki, noodles, rice, miso, salad, and another entree like tonkatsu or California rolls. The bang for your buck cannot be understated.

We have been going to La Foret for all our very special occasions over the past FOUR decades. Sunday Brunch, Weddings, Graduations, Mothers day, Xmas Eve, Easter,... The cuisine is oppulent in the old French style. Wild Game, Elk, Boar, Venison, ... Order the Gran Marnier Souffle well in advance because it takes longer. The service is impeccable! The manager...

Come here all the time, sometimes its a wait but the food never dissapoints- and prices are very comparable to when I was in Japan. In other words theres little to no markup. Usually get my food to go, but the interior feel relaxing though it may not wow you in the same way as other establishments.

Good, cheap food, and friendly staff. I love the udon and Cali rolls combo. The shop looks a bit grungy, but the kitchen is super clean and the owners are hard-working and enthusiastic. Some sushi, but I go for more Japanese country cooking than fancy rolls. The Unagi Nigiri (eel) is yummy.

Went for our anniversary. many seats overlook a creek that is lit at night. Menu is simple but well done, they welcome substitutions and portion size changes. Parking is good. reservations suggested as they do get busy. the staff is quite knowledgeable. The house wine is good.

This one of my favorite places to eat. Ive loved everything ive tried here and they make a chicken curry that is almost as good as my moms! Wonderful food, and great prices. it may be a small place and somewhat cramped inside, but the food makes it all seem like home...

Excellent. The fish selection was superb. If I had any criticism at all it would be that the Shari was not seasoned quite enough (for my liking) but a small issue relative to the overall experience. Best sashimi plate Ive had in the US.

This place is just a hole in the wall but we were amazed by the quality and the amount of food we received! So much food that we ended up taking half of it home. The people are friendly and the service is great. Highly recommend

This place is great! Great for take out during the week. Weekends get too busy for the very nice japanese family. Portions are huge, presentation is nice & service is great! The chicken is the best Ive ever had!

Keiko-san is adorably hospitable. As if shes still home, shell talk Japanese to you. Dont fret her seemingly ignoring you as you stand at the register to order... She has a system. Itll be worth the wait!

The dirtiest restaurant Ive been in recent memory. Udon soup flavorless. You have to bus your own dishes. Thats ok but nobody even wiped the table. Lysol and bleach please

This place is less focused on sushi and more on good quality Japanese fare. Amazing Udon soup and great Katsu. Plates are huge! Prices cant be beat for what you get.
