We had planned to eat at Bobbys for mothers day but it was closed. My mom moved here from Hawaii about 2 years ago and we wanted her to have Hawaiian for Mothers day. Well, this place was no replacement for what we wanted. Its very loud because the kitchen doesnt have a door. At one point I had to shout to talk a person at my own table. The decor is what you would expect for a hole in the wall. The prices are lower than most. The problem with the prices is that you really do get what you pay for here. My order: The Kalua pig. It was all salt. It was missing that smokey favor that makes it Kalua pig. Most mac salad is bland but this stuff was like eating plain, cold noodles. The rice was adequate. My daughters order: Seafood combo. She ate a few bites of everything, finished nothing. She simply didnt like it. My husbands order: Beef BBQ & a side of beef fried rice. He asked if he could have fried rice instead of white, they said no. They didnt offer to sub it for an added fee, just NO. He didnt like his BBQ at all, too much ginger and he tolerated the fried rice. My mothers order: Hui Hui chicken. She loved all of it except the mac salad. My sons order: Chicken Katsu. I must say, he lucked out more than even my mother. His chicken was very tasty and he had so much that he shared with the rest of us who didnt like our own food. The service was really slow and not attentive at all. Not one single dirty dish was removed from our table the entire time we were there. We had to ask for more water, etc. Save your money and go next door to Taqueria El Rinconsito.

Ive been to Hawaiian Sun BBQ a few times since its closer to my work than either of the Bobbys Hawaiian restaurants. Most of the times weve been there in the winter and spring the restaurant has been cold, even moreso than the temperature outside. I actually prefer to be cold and yet this was uncomfortable. The chairs, tables, and overall decor are cheap. Its much more a strip mall take-out feeling than a restaurant. The service is usually minimal and the wait staff will watch you eat from behind the counter and walk over to refill your water. The food is good, but if youd never had Hawaiian food you wouldnt go out of your way to have it again. I usually order the BBQ Chicken though Ive enjoyed the Chicken Katsu and people Ive gone with liked their Hui Hui Chicken and Short Ribs. The macaroni salad is bland. Ive had success with adding salt or their teriyaki sauce to it. The prices are right in line with what you get. I would be willing to pay a little more for friendlier service and higher quality decor. Id recommend going to Hawaiian Sun for a casual lunch or for take-out, but not for a sit-down dinner.

Not recommended. The food here was sub par at best, though the service was excellent. The menu is fairly bare bones and fails to describe their dishes properly. Couple that with extremely poor pictures of the food and you really dont know what youre going to get. I ordered the meat trio combo (short ribs, chicken, and one other item, I believe bbq beef) and it came out on a plate, all piled on top of each other. Two the side was a scoop of white rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. Neither is worthy of writing home about. Admittedly, Im a KC native so I know and love BBQ and hold its execution to a high standard. BBQ tastes are very specific to the location you grew up in, so my preferences may not align with Pacific Northwest or Hawaiian experiences. Take that for what its worth when considering this review. For me, however, I wont be returning. Again though, just have to say the service was great.

If you know what youre getting into, theres absolutely nothing this little restaurant can do wrong. Service is friendly and prompt, prices are reasonable, and the food (Oh the food!) will put a smile on your face and have you humming along to the Island music in the background. On the other hand, if you arrive expecting Hawaiian food to be pineapples and ham, you might want to visit some other place. Ive thoroughly enjoyed both the loco moco and the mochiko chicken though, I favour the former for the spot on savouriness. One of these days Ill leave enough room to get one of the cakes for the lunch equivalent of dessert but the portions are too generous to allow that (though, the portion size has never stopped me from getting a musubi to go). How they make their musubi so that they stay soft and fresh (even overnight in the fridge!) I will never know...

Went here for the first time tonight, and will certainly be going back. Small strip-mall hole-in-the-wall hides very nice food from islanders who know how to cook well. Its exactly what you expect from Hawaiian BBQ - sweet and savory meat served with rice. The kids had the Island Fried Rice (Hawaiian meats, including Portuguese sausage, in fried rice with 2 eggs on top), and I had the BBQ combo (Hawaiian-style beef short-ribs, chicken, and thin-sliced beef) served with rice and macaroni salad. Small but good selection of hot sauces. The side-mac-salad was forgettable, but the rest of the meals more than make up. Next time, Ill be trying one of their tempting soups.

Having lived in the Islands... THIS IS THE BEST HAWAIIAN FOOD IN TOWN!!!! And I just cannot praise the quality of their LAU LAUS enough, for the sheer taste and portion of the fatty fish, roasted pork, and ABUNDANCE OF TARO LEAVES they are made of. The are even approved of by my Naturopath! I CANNOT RECOMMEND THEM ENOUGH! BTW, if you like Oxtail Soup (bone broth) then you will love it Hawaiian Style, not the heavy American red sauce kind, but the FRESH BONE BROTH with lots of green onions and your choice of rice or noodles. YUMMY... MAHALO, HAWAIIAN SUN!!!

Tried this food because my friend said it was better than the other hawaiian food restaurant in Everett. Well that was 4.5 years ago and i still go there at least once a month. BBQ combo plate is the best. Price is good especially for the amount you pay and the quality of the food.

Best Hawaiian food Ive that wasnt actually on the islands. Delicious Kalua pork plate was too much to eat there, I had to take half home for later! If you like Hawaiian food then give this place a try. It may not be Maui, but its as close as youll get in Washington.

I really enjoy the food here. Mochi chicken comes with a nice garlic sauce, thin sliced beef isnt overly fatty and their macaroni salad (which I wont eat anywhere else) is tasty and not drowning in mayo. All the servers I have encountered have been very friendly.

literally so amazing, best food hawaiian food I have ever had and at such a great price! Service is wonderful:-) if you dont typically dine at non-white people places this may be a little too out of your comfort zone, but you should suck it up and eat here

Im island born and raised, and this place is probably the best representation of island style dining and food in the PNW. Great service and atmosphere, and the food is amazing and affordable. This is my top recommendation if someone wants island food.
