First off we were driving around Berkeley looking for somewhere good to eat amongst all the Indian restaurants. We parked and just walked upon this place. Be warned it is a bit pricy, more like $$- $$$ dollar signs. BBQ sauce was spot on. Me and my fiance got the medium and it had just the right amount of spice and heat. The ribs were cooked to perfection. The brisket was a little tough but still moist. We had the green beans, macaroni & cheese, and potato salad (which was forced on us due to no substitutions) for our sides. Green beans have a vinegar tang to them. Macaroni could use a little more flavoring and a creamier sauce. Potato salad had way too much mayonnaise in it. Why only 2 stars is because the lady that put the meat is our trays did so with her BARE HANDS!!! Thats right now gloves or any kind of protection. I watched this with disgust and still only ate the food instead of demanding my money back because I wanted to promote black owned businesses. The lady grabbed everything with her bare hands. She grabbed the meat, the trays, the napkins, the receipt, and even the flatware. I was utterly besides myself. I dont know own if Ill ever go back to this place, but I do know own Ill not endorse this place for proper food handling skills to friends and family.

Went in for take out, first of all they did not have ribs Saturday night at 6:30 (couldnt figure that one out), but it went down hill from that point. We usually go to the Jack London location, where at least they get the order right, but no I had to go to the Berkeley location because I wanted to be adventurous and see if at least they had a personality when I walked in and no body smiled and people where walking out empty handed that should of been my first clue to turn and run. Since they ran out of ribs I ordered two two-way orders with links and brisket which there menu says comes with two sides, well I placed my order with yams and beans (we do not like their potato salad). When I finally get home and tell my wife they did not have ribs, she almost lost it, I finally calmed her down, then she proceeds to open the order, thank god I was in the another room or I would of lost my hearing, we have two orders with potato salad, I thought the order was going to fly out the window. I am tad bit faster than her or else I would have been eating off the floor. If you decide to go to the Berkeley location, call first and if you are lucky enough and they do have ribs CHECK THE ORDER PRIOR TO LEAVING.

Ive had ribs in Texas.... Sorry Texas, you dont have anything on these folks!!! Husband and I ordered a pork rib dinner and a peach cobbler. Comes with 7 ribs, potato salad, beans, 4 slices of bread (which We never eat) and a side of beef links... Potato salad= good, Beans=good, beef links= great, Ribs= amazing, Peach Cobbler=to die for! Service=very friendly and in my husbands words overall "amazeballs"!!! We got through about 1/2 of the ribs, some beans and potato salad and some beef links survived. We killed the cobbler! We have left overs for tomorrow and all for about $20... And mind you, they close at 9pm, we showed up at 9:30 and they still wowed us! We will be back.

I have been trying for a long time to give these people a chance but they always tend to disappoint .from the 1 in jack london to this 1 .I went here to get some hot links which is the only thing that you sometimes can depend on .silly me decided to also get the brisket .what I got was a bunch of fat n what wasnt fat was shoe leather.oh wait they did manage to throw in a half of a link and some old stale bread....thanks a lot for the experience never again .

9/10/15 Terrible service - non-friendly counter person - if I didnt know better, I would think they were racist. Terrible food - order the briskett sandwich and got broken bits of dry, leathery meat with the sauce in a separate plastic cup and two pieces of dry regular wheat bread in a plastic sandwich bag that she grabbed from a trash can filled with them. The coleslaw side was commercially bought and dry also! Not worth the money spent nor fit to eat!

Cash only most of the time, but sometimes they take card. Simple menu, clean store, no frills, some seating inside (long bar to sit at, no tables), tables outside too. Sandwiches arent what youd necessarily expect: you get the meat, potato salad, and sandwich bread on the side (think wonder bread or potato bread thatd youd get at a supermarket, not a roll). The medium sauce was pleasantly spicy.

I have been going here for years but stopped after watching one employee disrespect another man and be rude for no reason just because the guy didnt know what he wanted to order right away. That day my food was pretty bad too. If Im going to pay extra money for food, Im paying for customer service too. Therefore I am no longer interested in that place. I havent been in a year.

Bad customer service. I felt like the cashier treats everyone like she could care less. Very sad and disturbing that the owner doesnt seem to be aware that this affects business. There are other BbQ spots to go too. I dont recommend here unless you dont care how the people taking your money and providing a service for a living treat you. Food is good, attitudes are bad!!!

I came here to get some smoked ribs to satisfy my craving and I left with a tired jaw. The ribs were over cooked to the point that they were chewy and crispy on one side, almost a jerky. The smoke flavor was great as well as the sauce but man was it hard to chew those ribs. As far as service...eh....its rough but its a BBQ joint and I kinda like that.

Wow!! Im mainly a BBQ chicken person but something about those ribs yum yum couldnt stop eating them. Mary is sweet, kind and wonderful, awesome staff and the cakes by Willie, this brother males cakes so delicious that it will make you dance. Im Chef Noel and I know what Im talking about. You gotta go

This place is great! Great service, great food. I was jus passing thru and ended up at subway as I was leaving I see a man getting wood for bbq? So I park my car again to check this place out and went inside. Best decision ever made. S/O to home girl who hooked it up with the sauce. Real deal bbq!

The real deal, from the shack with many Facebook-worthy bumper stickers gracing its walls, to the paper napkins and shady-looking people hanging out on the sidewalk in front. Ribs are delicious, satisfying, and saucy. Dont expect fancy and you wont be disappointed, but its not cheap food, either.

Absolutely horrible! Bad service, overpriced , dry ribs, bad potato salad. The chicken is alright but nothing special. Seriously do yourself a solid and never go here. The girl at the register was rude and didnt even offer me my change. I cant believe this place exists
