This place is a welcomed addition to Williamsburg. I love the idea of it, but there is some room to improve. I dont usually write reviews, but I want this place to succeed because I love BBQ and its close to my house (score!). First, the food is good and the menu is a nice twist on your traditional BBQ joint. I think with a little time and some honest customer feedback they can improve on what they have and maybe add in some more options (green beans, Brussels sprouts, and cornbread maybe!?). My girlfriend is not a big fan of spicy foods, and even though there wasnt anything I would consider to be "hot," everything had a bit of a kick to it, even down to the baked beans and mac n cheese. Again, I liked their creative approach to the typical BBQ side dishes, but I do think they need some more traditional options to please their customer base. There were some apparent growing pains (ran out of brisket at dinner time), but Im not sure its fair to expect much more on just their second day of opening with the pandemonium of the "try this new place" crowd (it was BUSY!). The staff is obviously new, so they have some kinks to work out, but they all seemed like good people and the service was decent considering the chaos they were dealing with. I have faith that these guys will work things out as it settles down a little bit. Overall, Im stoked that theyre in town and I hope theyre here to stay. If youre thinking about trying it, go support a local business thats not afraid to do things differently!!

I love bbq!!! I read about this place opening at the gazette paper and convinced my wife to come try this with me. We were ushered to a table, and waited, waited and waited 12 minutes past and I am about ready to stand and leave but my wife said gave it another 5 minutes. Finally a waitress came . I observed while waiting- a young female staff accidentally dropped a rug on the floor, picked it up and still uses it to wipe the adjacent table. And uses it again to wipe the tabletop of their drinking station. Oh well, so much for the side show. We ordered the sampler ( $21). which our waitress said is good for two. Side dish of sweet potato, not available, theyve run out. We , so decided on collard green and beans. Were surprised when the order came, its really a small portion of 2 ribs, a pulled pork, chicken, and 2 tiny sliced of beef. But to be fair, its really tasty and delicious but serving portion is only good for one. My suggestion, add a corn bread or muffin. Decreased your wait time. And instruct your young staff about hygiene. I will take my craving for barbecue to Gordonsville....And I am just curious, youve just open this Friday and already had a review here 2 weeks and another a month ago...

I recently visited Old City for a special event and was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I walked in, I knew it wasnt your average barbeque joint. The restaurant is thoughtfully decorated in a way that incorporates both classic Colonial charm and chic-contemporary style. All of the staff members were friendly and courteous - a special thanks to our waitress, Kelly, for making our party feel right at home. The menu was sizable and had something for everyone. I tried the Organic Pulled Chicken. It was phenomenal - a sizable portion of tender, flavorful chicken complemented by the thick, stout and molasses-sweetened barbeque sauce I selected (there were vinegar and mustard based sauces available as well, to suit all tastes). The Pimento Cheese was a nice starter and I enjoyed sampling the Mac and Cheese, Baked Beans and Coleslaw sides. I will say that the slaw surprised me - Im not usually a fan but that was the best Ive ever had. The cabbage was crisp and fresh, lightly dressed in a subtly tangy dressing. Overall, the local ingredients, original recipes, and authentic Williamsburg feel shine through at Old City Barbeque. Ill be back!

Very clean place and our waitress was very nice. We opted for the pork belly appetizers, and those were delicious. Now for the rest of the story. I couldnt believe I was about to eat a pulled pork sandwich for 9.5 and a side of fries for another 3$. Anyway, that was short lived and couldnt wait to try it. There were only 3 sauces to choose from, and being a NC girl, I went for the East Carolina. ( it was called a different name) I was glad that I tried a taste before dousing it on my tiny sandwich. Tasted exactly like malt vinegar. So on to my second bite... I got caught with an oval shaped thick piece of bone in the roof of my mouth. Ouch!!! Staff was very attentive and offered me something else, but I couldnt eat anything because it drew blood. I took them up on a free beer, as my ice tea had now became contamined. A bad experience. I still would never return because this local knows other places for better bbq, and that doesnt cost a small fortune. Almost 50$ for my husbands beer, an appetizer, his meal, and my ice tea.

Nice atmosphere, very clean resturant has very friendly and great service. The food was brought out hot and fresh. The food was of a high quality but didnt wow me. This I feel is due to my personal taste and not to anything this restaurant failed to deliver. I liked it and would give 5 stars if it were geared toward my taste buds. I recommend that you try it as the place was very busy and rightfully so. The staff is very friendly and know how to give the customer great service. The food was cooked to perfection. The meats were tender and not mushy. The pickle assortment that garnished the plate was nice as was the presentation of our meals. The food was at our table fast and someone had taken pride and care in its presentation it was not just thrown on the plate. And feel that it is priced accordingly.

Not a fan!!! When placing our order, we were told that a side came with our order. We ordered fries. When we received our order...no side. The person that brought our order said the sides were separate. So we ordered fries. We were told they had Sweet Potato Fries. While waiting for the fries, we decided to eat the sandwich. Both orders were cold. The fries arrived and when they were placed on the table, they were Sweet Potato Chips, not fries!! They did ask how things were and I let them know. They offered to replace sandwich which I declined because if the first one was wrong, how would the second one be. I will not be back. The only thing that was great about my visit was the waitress Melissa...she was awesome.

I never got a chance to taste their food. I was heading out in the evening to stop by and place an order to go about an hour before the posted closing time. As I was rounding the corner I saw a message on a lit sign "We ran out of food see yall tomorrow." This is a new restaurant and I guess theyre figuring out how much food they need to go to closing. Im guessing that they ran out of food means that is is good. Disappointed that we never got to try it before our vacation was over. Next time we are in Williamsburg Virginia we will have an opportunity to see for ourselves how good it is. Can not rate a like if I have never tasted the food, but will adjust rating once I have had a chance to try the food.
