DISCLAIMER: This review has more to do with the restaurant management than the grub. I wish I couldve had the chance to try it out. I was traveling through the area en route to Philadelphia for business and a local friend of my mine suggested we check it. Out. I was pretty excited at their menu choices. I didnt arrive until almost 10 p.m. but the restaurant website said they were open until 2 a.m. Were seated but have to wait several minutes for a server to give us menus, which turn out to be these tiny, pathetic latenight menus with generic hot dogs, burgers or wings. There was no brisket, pull pork, ribs or any of the basics to be considered a BBQ joint. I can understand swtiching over to a simplified menu during later hours but even the good look appetizers like spicy fried mac n cheese balls werent doable. Our server said the restaurant removed the main menu at 10 p.m. She was completely unwilling to even ask the managers if an exeception could be made since it was 10:02 p.m. Since she refused, we left, and the sever actually sighed, sulked and slumped as she walked away. What is this, kindergarten? In anycase, I was very frustrated considering the long drive I made and the fact that the website said they were open until 2 a.m. but mentioned nothing about a bland (lazy) late night menu. I wouldnt have minded as much if they at least had SOME BBQ or some of the more creative apps. If I knew about the lousy late menu in advance, this whole thing could have been avoided. Better yet, if youre a restaurant open till 2 a.m. then why start the late night menu at 10 p.m.? Why not start it at midnight? I called the manager to (politely) explain the situation and point out the inconsistencies between whats advertised and what I actually experienced. However, she showed a complete lack of interest, thus prompting me to write my first Yelp review. I hate to be the negative nancy in light of all the great reviews this place has, but figured Id alert any fellow late night travelers who are craving BBQ while driving through Maryland and thinking of stopping at Hideway.

This restaurant was previously a dive bar that recently underwent a makeover. The location is definitely off the beaten path, but the facility looks pretty nice now. Inside is a fun filled bar atmosphere. There are plenty of televisions each tuned to a different channel, so something for everyone. The decor is pleasant and everything seems clean. Service is good, with plenty of friendly staff that check up on you often. But we did have to wait a while afterwards and flag someone down for the check though. It may be due to the happy hour crowd, but a few minutes longer and I would be giving them two stars instead of three. Speaking of happy hour, which runs 3-7pm M-Th, it is a great opportunity for sampling their food in smaller portions. For the most part everything is good. Typical bar food with a few outstanding traits and a few shortcomings. First off, their hot wings are spot on. A little sour for my preference, but perfectly smoked and sauced. I wish the blue cheese dipping sauce were a bit thicker. Old Bay wings are also perfectly cooked, but the combination of the bay seasoning over their house rub makes them very salty. The pulled pork was the smokiest I have had in a long time. Great flavor and texture. The slaw is good too. Crisp fresh vegetables in a nice creamy sauce. The bread was too dense and dry though, requiring extra BBQ sauce to go down. Those sauces at the table are all excellent by the way: teriyaki, honey mustard, BBQ, and chili. Overall a fun bar. I can recommend the hot wings or naked wings to sauce yourself. And deserts look great too, but we were too full to try them. Maybe next time.

I have given this place a handful of chances to be good but every time it has come up short. It seems that the people working there dont care and they are being poorly managed. First off, it takes a long time for someone to even notice you are there once you are seated and come by and get your drink order. Servers/bartenders have forgotten our drinks after we asked for them. When the food eventually came out after waiting for what seemed like 45 min, it was cold. It had been sitting in the kitchen ready for awhile but, the servers failed to notice it was ready. In addition, we had to ask for chips multiple times. One of the girls who said she would get them for me never brought them and it took the bartender several times to eventually bring them out. The wings were supposed to come with blue cheese. No blue cheese. The prices for happy hour items have been wrong on our bill multiple times. They ring up the prices of the items for normal hours instead of happy hour, hence overcharging us. Finally, the attitude of some of the bartenders is not very welcoming/inviting - they need new people working in there that are better trained. I will be going other places for dinner/drinks.

This is my second visit to this restaurant since moving to Odenton in 1997. First visit was under previous ownership and I wasnt impressed. Restaurant is now under new management and friends have been raving about how good this place is now. Ate there today in anticipation of having a nice meal. Ordered the Cream of Crab soup which supposedly won an award. It was luke warm, flavorless, overly starchy, overly salty, and a weird gray color. Nothing to rave about, but edible. Main dish was a broiled jumbo crabcake. It was indeed jumbo and have a lot of crabmeat in it, but it was very dry and tasteless. Also nothing to rave about and thus making my second visit there another disappointment. On the plus side, however, the red potato salad is superb as are the green beans on the side and service there is fantastic. Guess I wont be going back a third time to eat here. This was a still is a mediocre restaurant. Food should be hot and have flavor. There are better places in Odenton if you want a decent meal.

Heavy food - what I had was good, good beer selection, good place to watch a game. Service was good. Id give most of it 5 stars, but... On our first trip there the kitchen screwed up my friends order and basically gave him a plain burger (should have had tahini-style sauce and bacon on it). We sent it back to the kitchen and it came out again practically unchanged, then sent it back a third time. It came back out, finally with the sauce, but with the two most pathetic pieces of bacon Ive ever seen. We were told "thats how it comes." The bartender waiting on us was very courteous about the situation, which inclines me to conclude that the kitchen staff were being assholes. If not for the bartender discounting our meal this situation wouldve earned them a 1-star review. If they werent lying about the style of the burger, then they need to adjust the description in the menu to make it sound less extravagant - but it wouldnt really match the style of the food there if they did.

Went tonight for our fourth time. The food was excellent but the service was bad. Waited 10 minutes to get seated even though we were the only ones waiting and there were plenty of open tables. Then it took another 15 minutes for the waitress to come to our table. The waitress only came by the table once to see if we needed anything after our food came. Once we were done eating we asked to see the dessert menu. The waitress brought it to us and then disappeared for another 20 minutes. After we ordered our dessert with coffee and tea, the waitress went and waited on another table before bringing us the tea and coffee and then I had to get up and ask someone for sugar. After we had finished our dessert, we waited another 15 minutes and then my husband went and asked for the bill. We were there for 2 hours and most of that time was waiting on service. Very disappointed with this visit.
