My spouse and I love going to this place. Kyushu has a nice atmosphere. They greet you at the door with a smile. :) Always love that coming in. I like the decor they have going on. We usually have the ramen, which is very good! The ramens broth is very flavourful. Their gyoza is very nice, too; one of the best gyoza Ive ever had. The most recent item weve had is the shabu-shabu (you need to call them in advance to get this service). The wait staff was very mindful of us since weve told them this is the first time weve ever done this. Maki-san was really nice and helpful explaining how to enjoy shabu-shabu! :) Lastly, their desserts are lovely. Weve had their deep-fried cheesecake as well as their green tea cheesecake. They were both very yummy. Their desserts could be on the heavy side, so either you take it home with you or really save some room for dessert. xD

Irashaimase is what they great you when you enter. Its surprising and it disappoints me how so many Sushi Restaurants in Virginia Beach are owned by Chinese but people dont realize. Look people: there is a difference, just like the difference between a Mexican and Colombian or Russian and German or American and British. Anyways this place is one of the only AUTHENTIC JAPANESE RESTARAUNTS in Virginia Beach. Besides Mizuno, any other so called "Sushi Restaurant" you go to in VA: is a tarnish to the Japanese Name. The food at is great!! and the atmosphere is nice with tradition Japanese music and the staff is very polite. I will only go eat at Kyushu.

This place is seriously the best sushi place I have been to, even after visiting Japan twice (and eating real sushi). The restaurant doesnt look amazing on the outside, but when you go inside the food and service are both superb. As a Virginia Beach native, I have been going here exclusively for years and I always get the California roll, eel roll, and Lisa roll (secret menu item, consists of egg, imitation crab, and lettuce). I HIGHLY recommend this place because the food is more authentic than most and here you get good sushi where the quality is never compromised. Truly a locals secret.

Too many give a "five-star" rating when they should really be giving four-star ratings and saving their top kudos for those truly extraordinary locales. In the sushi explosion that somehow came about in the 90s, an overabundance of sushiyamas opened, to the misfortune of the customer. Now theres one in every strip mall, on every block, and nothing distinguished or special about the majority. Kyushu is the only sushi restaurant in Tidewater with Americans of Japanese descent working within, I never understood why 95% of the restaurants around here have Chinese people working in them.

My husband and I went out to dinner last night and decided that this time around we were going to try something new. So we went to Tempura Udon as we heard that its one of the best sushi restaurants around. We were both new timers and totally relied on our waiters recommendations. We ordered Hamachi and Tekkamaki sushi. I most certainly liked it but I cant really say the same about my husband. I cant really say thats the best in town because it was my first time trying such food but I enjoyed the taste a lot. Furthermore the decour is beautiful and the service is of the highest quality.

favorite sushi restaurant in Hampton Roads, the rolls are good (sunrise and mermaid are my fave), the nigiri is awesome especially the white tuna and I have never anything less than an amazing meal here. I usually order the sushi lunch or bento box then order extra nigiri (salmon, yellowtail, fatty tuna and yellow tail. also love the egg omelet sushi mmmm) and have ordered the ramen. Stuffed shrimp is also amazing and I love that the chef always gives you something extra to try, makes me feel special and I am a sucker for free stuff lol. Hope you try and love it :-)

i lived in japan for 5 years and am a foodie anyway. kyushu is run by japanese, which is the first precondition. you can really tell. the old ladies behind the counter growl and snipe at the other employees about the food, such is their commitment to excellence. their katei-ryouri is just that - home-style. get the hamachi-kama, the miso-roast egglpant. the kawa-ebi. the age-dashi, not to mention, of course, the pretty standard sushi rolled by non-japanese (cant have it all). It is clearly a 4, and the best place ive been in Va. GO THERE.

Went on a date night with my husband. This place doesnt look like much but its fantastic! My husband says that their broiled squid sets the bar. I had their futomaki and eel roll. Ive had better on the eel but the futomaki was wonderful. Staff is amazing and the couple at the table next to us got the tempura cheesecake. It looked odd but they made it obvious that it was heavenly. Spent $40 with tip for a meal for two. Value is great, dont be put off by the "hole-in-the-wall" look/location.

Amazing, genuine Japanese food. Ive been going to this restaurant for years and never been disappointed. They dont charge an arm and a leg either - good value for great quality! I always want to go here for special occasions. I always get the sushi which is awesome, but Ive tried some of their other dishes and those are good too. My only complaint is that they arent open for lunch on Saturdays. Somehow I tend to forget that and end up standing outside the door, sad and hungry...

This place is a tucked away little treasure that Im blessed to know about...I adore mom and pop restaurants where the owners never forget a face and work hard to provide good quality food and pride themselves in excellent customer service. I have been eating at this place for 15 years now and it never disappoints. Im thankful for Ebi and his wife and staff to always give a warm welcoming smile to go along with the amazing sushi that is good to the last bite. THANK YOU

Love this place! Family friendly, date friendly, night out, lunch, etc..... Staff is super pleasant. There is a waitress there that helps my son practice speaking Japanese while we are there when waiting on us despite being super busy. She is attentive and keeps on track with her flow without missing a beat still providing excellent service! Oh the food is excellent by the way. We have tried traditional dishes as well as the typical rolls you may enjoy.

After following the sushi scene since its beginning here in Hampton Roads, I still go to Kyushu. In my broad experience, only Yama, another Japanese born and trained sushi chef, was better than Kyushus Ebi. There are now a lot of bogus superficial factors that earn high ratings for sushi places. I say take a break from the bogus and respect the art. The art lives on at Kyushu.

Their ramen is sooo good! Its not on the menu and I wonder why.. which I think they need to update their menu, need to add more selections specially their sushi rolls. Authentic japanese food! I think they are the only Japanese restaurant in the area run by japanese family. Feels like it is a small place but I think it adds to the exclusiveness feeling of the place.
