Me and my guest went here for the first time we advised the waitress we never been here before and this was our first time. We did initially have questions about items on the menu in the mood for something different. The young waitress was very polite and respectful in answering them. However, once we was ready to order the young waitress tried to upsell and said its better if you get this as a lunch special bc you get these added items now that lead to the question... what are the added items? The older woman which was the owner cut the young waitress off and said they taking too long go help the other table! I was shocked that she said that in front of our faces with no regard to how nasty she was being to her customers. There was barely any customers in the establishment they were not busy and that statement was disrespectful, rude, and uncalled for even if they were busy. The young waitress was the one that prolonged the order by suggesting things we didnt ask for. If we tell you we want this and you say get that its clearly not our fault we told you what we WANT....Thats fine and just her doing a good job however, the owner is horrible to customers and inpatient. She wasnt even the one serving us. She wasnt doing anything but standing there watching us and couldve helped the young waitress or go get the other table herself. They lost future customers and our business. I would not recommend this business to anyone. Take your money to a business that appreciate their customers as people and a paying asset. Also this business is on Newtown road in VA Beach which is shocking someone so racist is staying in business because the owner is a pure racist our money is green just like all the other paying customers and we deserve the same treatment especially potential new customers. I am certain her mistreatment was because the color of our skin and we didnt seem of value or importance to her. Hurry up and buy!!!

Made to order all you can eat - my family and I were impressed by the menu selection - from hot appetizers to over two dozens of specialty rolls + sashimi - my family can eat but we had a hard time sampling even 1/3 of the menu! The rolls might look a bit overwhelming at first glance (full size) - but once you take a closer look, youll realize they are barely made of any rice. They are packed with yummy ingredients - unagi, avocado, shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, spicy conch just to name a few. Sashimi - Ive never seen uni as part of all you can eat before! Not that Im a fan of it but arent these things expensive? While my parents were a bit more adventurous + carried more of an expensive taste, I stuck to my usual: white tuna, hamachi, scallop - so fresh, so sweet! Appetizers - fried soft shell crabs + white tuna martini - just keep them coming! Desserts - red bean and green tea ice cream UNLIMITED? give me two of each please! I later learned that you can request them "fried".. I inhaled too many bowls way too fast - my only regret dining at Sakura that night. Service was a bit slow especially between orders. It didnt help that we were seated next to a huge group of hangry college kids. In addition, we learned that one wait staff is assigned per table so another wait staff might be wandering + free, she/he will NOT help you. It was a pain to wait specifically for our waitress to order and to even ask for water. Nevertheless, $20 for ayce with such vast variety and high quality, my family and I need to visit VA beach more often!

Ive been to a few sushi restaurants in town, and theyve been decent. Two nights ago I went to Sakura for the first time, and I loved it. The staff was very friendly, but so is the staff at a lot of places. (and honestly, who cares if the staff is friendly if the sushi is no good?) What sets Sakura apart is the sushi itself. Of course they have the simpler rolls, like salmon, tuna, avocado, spicy tuna (which was excellent) and more, but then they have a list of almost 40 special rolls of just about every combination you could think of. Try some of them (like the Ninja Roll) and you wont go anywhere else for sushi.

Wow, mama really put her heart into her cooking. The playboy sushi roll is really good. The ambience makes you feel you are in Japan. Good selections compared to their neighbor kyushu, 3 varieties of Ramen and food looks fresh and well prepared. Staff are friendly, i will definitely go back here. I tried the miso ramen but curious how the beef and chicken taste. Ive been making my own ramen from scratch and I do the soysauce pork and chicken.

The staff is very friendly and the girl who waited on us was really very nice, we were stoked to try their food. I ordered a yellowtail hand roll. I took a bite of my yellowtail and immediately spit the fish into a napkin, it was BAD FISH, my hand even stunk from holding the handroll. Sushi should never "stink". Ive never been so disgusted in my life. Im so bummed out by this expirience and sadly will never come back.

The atmosphere is really good and the food was really tasty. The only problem was that the sushi took a very long time to come out. 3 of our party received our food-including appetizers-before the last person. But I will say the food is definitely the wait. I ordered the calamari twice it was so good. Keep in mine the restaurant sign says "Sushi Mama" and now Sakamoto Sushi when you are looking for it

Ive been to a few sushi places but this one is my favorite. Its not a very big place but it definitely has some of best sushi Ive ever had. The staff is pretty friendly and the chef remembers the summer roll I always ask for even if I dont come there very often. The prices are decent not too expensive. Ive been coming for a long time and Ive always been treated well.

This is, by far, the best sushi that youll get in the area. Everything is incredibly fresh and makes you question that other sushi place you used to visit. Its delicious, and Mama makes it special. Tons of special roll options and stuff like the Pink Lady and Play Boy rolls arent seen elsewhere. Dont consider anywhere else - this is the best in Hampton Roads.

For a pretty unassuming place, the food was surprisingly good. The staff were attentive and nice, cheering up my glum day. The decor is pretty standard fare, but the menu is what shines. I had a few selections of sushi - eel, fried oyster, spicy tuna - all hit the spot. The ramen is where this place shined. Everything was prepared fresh and made perfectly.

Its called Sushi Mamas now. At first I though it was a little expensive... until I got my rolls. Huge rolls. Very filling. Not loaded with rice. Fish tasted very fresh! Thats the most important thing. People working there were very nice in a mom and pop kinda way.
