Visited this restaurant tonight and the service and food were so terrible that I decided I had to leave a review tonight! First impressions are truly important and when we first walked in there was no one to be found. We decided to just peek into the restaurant and see if maybe they were just busy however upon our peek there were maybe a good 10 tables full and 2 people seated at the bar. Once we were seated our server came over and asked if we have ever been here, we said no and he told us about the wednesday wine night and the chips. We placed beer orders and food orders- shrimp empanadas and chicken tacos and it was out in less than 10 minutes. The food wasnt even hot! The empanadas were tasteless, the chicken tacos were soggier than cheerios left in a milk bowl for 5 minutes! Their version of patatas were cold, soggy and not even crispy- but mind you, they were fried at some point to a dark brown almost burnt color. The rice and beans that came with the empanadas were cold and tasteless as well. The black beans tasted right out of the goya can when you dont rinse them! I wish I could give this place 0 stars and hope that Casa del Barco steps their game up. You guys have a great location, nice view and its a shame that you do not deliver in service nor quality. P.S. We never did get those chips!

Came here three years ago for dinner with friends. Atmosphere was pleasant and the food and drinks were on point. Fast forward a few years: Took my wife there this evening and the food was still good although our drinks didnt taste particularly good and the waiter we had (Wil) was nice but not very attentive and didnt use simple precautions like not grabbing a clean glass around the top rim with your hand where people put their lips and not man handling the dishes you are putting on some someones table that their about to eat off of. He also took a while to check on us after we finished eating and we observed many of the waiters and waitresses standing around talking to each other when they werent waiting on tables. They should have been checking on their tables for refills of water, napkins, etc. Also the manager walked right by us on more than one occasion and noticed us just sitting there with empty plates, didnt offer to remove them and kept on walking. All in all like I said earlier, the food is good but the service leaves a lot to be desired. I dont think well go there for dinner again anytime soon. There are to many other options in Richmond where the food is just as good and the service is much better.

I went to Casa about 2 years ago for Cinco de Mayo and hadnt been back until recently. We did patio seating and the server was pleasant. Food came out and looked great, but it wasnt particularly seasoned. It was a decent portion, the drinks were good, but I expected it to be more flavorful because of the type of food and that was lacking despite the great presentation. Now 2 years later, I figured Id try again (also for Cinco de Mayo, because, why not.) and this time did not disappoint. The patio now had one single long awning which was cool. Although it said they didnt have seating on OpenTable, we went anyway and they were able to squeeze us in. The Cinco de Mayo drink menu was disappointing due to the few options and FYI they dont offer happy hour on the patio - which is just plain weird. BUT the service and food were both good this time. Very flavorful and pretty timely despite the large crowd. Overall, a good experience. Its not the best if youre looking for a deal on good food, but nice if youre in the area one day.

Didnt even try the food because customer service was horrible. Upon arriving a the restaurant, there was a family of 3 in front of us. We told the waitress our name and phone number and she replied" it will be about 10 mins". We waited and the family of 3 in front of us were called to get there table 10 minutes after there name. Mean while 30 minutes goes by so i walk up and ask about us and the waitress replied " o we are getting your table ready now". I said "ok". At this point the manager was standing and talking to the same waitress. We wait 10 more minutes and i walked up there again but this time to cancel because we have been waiting for 45 minutes. The waitress said "sorry did you want to speak to the manager". I said "yes". I explain the situation to her and the manager say "well your table is ready now, we texted you" I told her i came up here after the text and i was sitting the lobby and you were standing here when i came up and told the waitress." She looked at me with a dumb founded look and said "sorry".

After standing in the sun/heat at Brown’s Island for an hour trying to get some Eclipse glasses (and then being told they were all handed out within 10 minutes) I was beyond aggravated, so my husband and I decided to do the next best thing and have margaritas at Casa del Barco. Little did we know that this would be the best decision we could make under the circumstances. We did not realize CDB was having an eclipse party, so when Ben the manager greeted our table and told us that we would be given eclipse glasses we felt like we hit the lottery. Kevin, our server was attentive and kept the drinks flowing. We had guacamole and tortillas for an appetizer and the empanadas for our meal. Everything was fantastic. From the handcrafted margaritas (we sampled them ALL and they were ALL amazing), the delicious food and the awesome staff, we were so glad we chose to spend our afternoon here. Thanks again to Ben and Kevin for an Eclipse Party we won’t soon forget!

I give it a 2 because of the setting. Once you find it, it is a nice setting along the canal. Opted to sit outside on a lovely, sunny day. However, too much sun in the eyes so moved to another table when it became available. Others had to suffer the sun when there were umbrellas that could have been moved to the tables and opened up. Then there was our disappearing waiter. Went inside the empty restaurant and 7 of them were standing around. The cute concept of the whole tortillas that are fried and sprinkled with seasoned salt and then served in fry baskets belies the fact that they were not freshly fried or crisp. The salsa, and all food for that matter, was lacking salt. We all agreed our food was tasteless and overpriced. Although, there was lots of cayenne in everything, including the blood orange margarita I sent back. Go for a beer and enjoy the outdoor setting otherwise, forget it.

Casa Del Barco opened in 2013, so it is one of the newer places to eat in the downtown area and it still looks fun and fresh. That said, it aint the cheapest place to eat around, and the portions are not huge either... but in the five or six times we have been there (always for lunch) the food has been very good tasting, the salsa fairly mind blowing and the service fairly quick and attentive. We typically go as a group ranging from 4 to 10 people, and the staff has no problem accommodating us even when we each request separate bills. Given the ambience and their great selection of tequilas and beers, it looks like it should be a fun place to go in the evening but our experience has only been during the day. Good lunchtime fare. Friendly service. Reasonable fast for lunch. A tad pricey. will continue to go there for lunch as time and funds allow!
