I went looking for oysters on the half shell or softshell crabs. I didnt find either. The restaurant is clean but really cramped feeling as the have tried to make it like the inside of a boat as the hostess pointed out when I asked if I could be seated near a window. It was very cold in the room where I was seated which was better than the stifling heat wed been experiencing outside. But it was too cold there were two of the big portable air conditioners sitting on top of tables at either end of this small room. I never got comfortable in the room. The menu is very short. Not many options at all. I ordered the calamari appetizer and the shrimp and scallops ala vodka. My server brought me two slices of bread and what looked like whipped butter. I was very hungry so I picked up a slice of bread dipped my knife in the butter spread it on and took a bite expecting the smooth salty taste of butter only to be shocked by what tasted like buttercream icing on my bread- YUCK I thought. Calamari arrives it looks good but I did not get the lemon wedges Id asked for and the sauce was a heavy mayonaise based spicy sauce. The calamari itself was nice and crispy and not overly breaded. Once I got the lemon it tasted good with it. My entree arrived and it was just adequate nothing to write home about. The pieces of asparagus spears overpowered the ala vodka so I tried to keep them out of my forkful. For me, Id decided to order calamari from them but not go for dinner again. The next time I ordered calamari was a week later for take out. When I picked it up, they had my lemon wedges in with the calamari cooking in the heat. There were 6 of the clusters with the tentacles and very few rings. In the end, Ive decided not to go back. The staff was very pleasant

-Too many people complain about the menu selection but I would be more concerned if it were any larger considering the size of a small, local establishment. -Wish there was a variety of the bread and that the butter came in an actual dish instead of a plastic cup. Class up the experience and save the oceans a little -The calamari is some of the best Ive had. Soft, the breading isnt light and not overbearing, and you can tell that they dont reuse the oil too much -Theres a special on Mondays and Tuesdays (2 for $40) where you can split an appetizers, 2 entrees that comes with two sides per, and 2 desserts which is what my dad and I got -My Shrimp and Scallop A La Vodka was very good. The sauce wasnt too rich or too runny, well seasoned. The shrimp and scallops were HUGE. Im normally VERY picky to how scallops are prepared and they nailed it. My only complaint would be how small my potatoes were cut but Im assuming thats so they can cook faster. They were well seasoned with the main herb being rosemary which tied the asparagus together nicely. -The restroom could use an upgrade but thats not what I came for -Service: the waitress who served us had the most annoying laugh and used red eyeshadow but she was very attentive and always filled our waters without us asking -Everyone whos complaining about the portion size is just mad because their fat self is used to Applebees and normally gets to bring a box home thats as big as a normal sized meal is so supposed to be. If you want to eat quality food at a moderate higher scale place with local atmosphere, then this is the place

The outside dinning area was covered and the heaters maintained a perfect temperature for a December evening dinner. From the waitress to the food, everything was perfect. As a Portsmouth resident I prefer to eat within my city and Dock of the Bay restaurant is the place for my husband and I to enjoy a great meal. The grilled seafood dinner with a salad and hush-puppies was seasoned perfectly; I ended up taking home the salad with most of the salmon, My husband had the filet Mignon with the rice and mashed potatoes. This too was seasoned perfectly and the steak was cooked as requested. It was a pleasant atmosphere for our quite anniversary dinner. Well be back!

My husband and i went here for our anniversary dinner on a monday! They had their special that they have on mondays and tuesdays which is 2 dinners for $40. It was so worth it. We got a really good bbq bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops as a starter. My husband got fish tacos (they looked amazing but i dont eat fish.), i got the fried shrimp dinner. We also both got our own desert. He loved the lemon berry cake, but the brownie was to die for!!! Our wait staff was very attentive! You can tell that the owner takes pride in his restaurant! It had a beautiful view of the water and was perfectly secluded in the back of an old neighborhood!

To be honest, I was very hesitant to go this place. After looking at the reviews my mind was eased, and I have to say I am glad I have it a chance because it was amazing! We got a 2 for $40 deal which includes an appetizer, 2 meals and 2 deserts. Everything we ate was awesome and it was a very chill atmosphere. Everything we had hit the spot and we had a good amount of food! Great flavors and fresh seafood this is a great place and I will definitely be back!

This was my second time here and I can not rave enough about this restaurant. From the moment you walk in you are greeted like an old friend. The food is outstanding. You can tell they really care about the quality of the food that they are serving. Love the low key feel and how the waitress makes sure you are getting food you want. Great wait staff, great cooks. Just a pleasure to be able to eat at a wonderful establishment. Thank you DOB!

We came here for lunch and it was a great choice! The best calamari ever!!!! You can taste the freshness of the food!!! I wanted to order everything off the menu but since I couldnt eat it all I decided on the fried oyster sandwich and it was delicious! Had a sample if the She Crab soup and will definitely be back to have a bowl before we leave the area. Already planning to come back for the 2 for $40 dinner on Monday/Tuesday!!!!

My hubby and I tried this place during their grand opening. It was truly amazing. Sean and his beautiful wife Yolanda have made this restaurant something really special. We have been here so many times that i have almost tried everything on the menu. The staff is the best, the food is amazing, the atmosphere is awesome. Keep on doing what you guys do so well. Was there twice this week. May God continue to bless you guys.

Awesome place. I highly recommend the crab imperial and the bbq bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. I eat here quite often and am so happy that I have a place to go so close to home that offers such a great menu. I literally have not had anything that wasnt perfection and I have tried a good majority of the menu!
