I hate to have to change my review, but after my last visit a couple weeks ago I just cant get the lack of quality of the food served out of my head. The portions are HUGE and the ingredients are high quality, BUT our server knew nothing about the items on the menu and was not able to tell us anything about their wines...at all. Although we visited as a group of 7 the entrees came out as if they were going to two separate tables, a solid 7-10 minutes apart. My pork chops were so dry that it was very difficult to eat them, I would have told the server, but after dropping off the food he wasnt seem again until clearing plates. I am extremely disappointed with the change that this restaurant seems to be making. So, in order to ensure that I am never that disappointed with a meal there I will only be back for lunch, half the price, better tasting food, and faster service. So, if you work in the Innsbrook area make a point to come here for lunch, otherwise, decide if youre feeling lucky before you show up for dinner...

I would like to emphasize the words "used to" in the title. I had eaten there at least a dozen times. I went in two weeks ago with a colleague from out of town. Service was fine. The salad was OK. Then the bread came out. The bread was once the highlight of a meal here. The bread they brought us was akin to store-bought frozen garlic bread. Very disappointing. Then the main dish came out. Pasta sauce should have onion in it, but it should be finely diced and thoroughly cooked. The sauce on my veal bolognese had large chunks of raw white onion. Every bite I took, the onions were all I could taste. It was horrendous. This was once my favorite Italian restaurant in Richmond. It was the closest we had to a true New York-style Italian restaurant. Needless to say my opinion has changed. I will not be returning there anytime in the near future.

I experienced distress right off the bat. They sent out bread to start - its cold, prepackaged and reasonably old - no elasticity and the crust is mushy. The bread itself was crumbling from age. Its got sesame seeds on it. Its like old Wonder Bread, man. The starter bread sets the tone for the meal. A hungry diner is looking for something fresh, elastic, a good chewy crust - possibly warm. Not this stale cakey chunk. The meal was large and more or less serviceable. Not memorable. Slightly overcooked pasta and the sauce somewhat over-salted. The other diners were for the most part old folks and one family. I finished my drink quickly, paid and headed out. BTW, you dont want to dine here alone. The bar is essentially a working service bar and youd be in the midst of glasses and staff working all around you.

Mama Cucinas is one of my favorite Italian places in Richmond! Generous heaping portions of delicious saucy pasta at a great price, whats not to love? The owners are fantastic, and the service is always spectacular. I think my only complaint is that they always manage to be closed when Im craving them (which, granted is usually late at night). I especially love any and all of their pastas with zucchini! They leave it in large chunks and it is just perfect! I never even thought to add zucchini to pasta, but it is so good!

No atmosphere. Wait staff blaming customers for being in their way as they try to get to tables to serve. No room to move. Constantly being bumped into while dining because of lack of space. Good food. Way to much food served for one person. Very loud. Dont go if you want to take your time and have an enjoyable meal and conversation with fellow diners. This restaurant needs to take their chef and move into a larger space. Create some atmosphere and reduce the portion size.

We really like this place but you better come hungry! Our friends love the chicken cacciatore and my father-in-law thought their linguine volgole was the best he ever had. The portions are generally big. I do wish their shrimp pasta dish had some more shrimp though. Family owned and operated, it gets busy almost everyday so have a reservation or plan to come before 6pm. Its a special treat for our family.

This place has deteriorated it quality standards a lot. Me and my wife went there for lunch today and she ordered the salmon pasta. In the first 2 cubes of salmon she found about 6 little bones which was really scary. So when we complained, the manager was utter rude and he was like fish will have bones and how do I know you did not bring it with you. I will never go back to this restaurant ever again.

Staff was so friendly and professional, simple and awesome ambiance. The food was incredible. Best creme of mushroom soup Ive ever had! Most entrees come with a salad, and house vinigarette. I loved the kick of spice and the green olives offered a nice blend of texture. For my main course I chose a pasta dish with wine sauce and prosciutto....Best pasta Ive had in Richmond! I will definitely be back!

I kept hearing good things about this restaurant, so we decided to try it. The bread was a store-bought type white french bread, the salad was very basic but okay. The chicken pasta dish we had was mediocre. A nice fresh taste, but nothing that I would go back for. Portions were very large as others have stated. I hate to judge a restaurant on one visit, but we were disappointed.

Great food, huge portions, and great value price for everything. Small restaurant and tiny bar but great food. We were in a party of 8 and everyone was very happy with our selections. Enough food to share a plate if you wish. There is a plate fee but that works out great if you are in a hotel. Waitress was super with watching over us at a distance.

Recommended by a friend who lives in the area. Had the Veal Saltimbocca, which was very good, and worth twice what I paid. Portions are generous and the appetizer was also delicious. The lightest olive oil I ever tasted. They make their own mozzarella.

I always visit when I am in Richmond on business. The food is amazing and service is friendly. The serve at your pace so if you are rushed, they accommodate. Portions are insane so always have some to take with me.

We LOVE this place. Food and service is amazing. We stop here every time we stop on our way to Myrtle Beach, Hilton Head or Charleston. We stay at Marriott which we also love and have an amazinging dinner.

Really good Italian food, well prepared and served in generous portions by caring staff. Great value. The only negative is the dull interior and layout creates an atmosphere that has zero personality...

I love the food and service and is by far my favorite restaurant. While it is a little noisy the food is simply always delicious. Ill take noise and great food over quiet and good.

I ordered sausage, my fiance ordered a rose sauce pasta. High price, bland flavor, hardly any sauce on her pasta. Total bill for two was 40 bucks no appetizers.
