We moved to NoVA 8 years ago and found Silver Diner. They were awesome, good food, fun environment, and service WAS pretty good. Then they changed their menu and their customer service. We used to go every single week. Friday nights for dinner, then we noticed that the servers either didnt get our order correctly or they would charge us for something that we didnt order, or we would order something and wouldnt get it. So, we stayed away, then about 4 months ago, we went back...and WALA....order wrong, server had an attitude and the manager wanted to correct things by paying for our meal. David, the manager gave excuses, apologized and thought ok he could charm his way through our pocket book. That was 4 months ago. Then tonight, my husband wanted pancakes for dinner. He suggested Silver Diner, so, ok, and off we go. We walk in, the place is empty and we are seated right by the glass wall next to the kitchen. 5 min., 10 minutes, 15 minutes go by and then the server comes and asks if "anyone" had helped us, We say no, and that we are getting ready to leave, he apologizes, says he was standing on the other side of the glass partition and didnt see us....Really?? Was he blind? So, ok, 2 glasses of tea and two orders of pancakes w/ strawberries....OMG...it took less time for those pancakes and strawberries then the 15 minutes that we sat there and waited for customer recognition. So, the manager, David, comes to the table and says" I hear you had to wait, allow me to apologize and tries to give us coupons for free food and proceeds to bore the hell out of me with his good to bad ratio of business and how everyone just loves Silver Diner......So, this guy is offensive, he is standing over us telling us how good they are, and yet, every single time we have gone in, everything has been ridiculous. About a year ago, we go in and see one of the servers holding their kid and its feet are touching the stainless steel counter where they pass food through, so we reported it...We get this glib answer...This is where peoples food is passed through and some moron is holding a toddler whose feet are on that counter....WOW....Health department please!!!! Another time, the floor was greasy and as you are walking you are slipping. Tables dirty, booths not wiped down...Its always something.....Tonight was the last straw, Davids arrogance as he is standing over us telling us just how good they are as we are sitting there after the bad customer service from Artin the server and Davids arrogance was the end. I dont want to be bribed to come back with free food, I dont want excuses or ratios, and I sure as hell dont want to see some kid with his feet on the counter where food is passed over as we did about a year ago. I am done with Silver Diner, we will not go back there, we will not give them one dollar of our hard earned money because frankly speaking the Silver Diner isnt what it used to be and I can think of a lot of other places that actually know how to conduct themselves while being in a business environment. The restaurant business is a competitive business and customers do not have to stick around when theres a selection 2nd to none in this area. Cya Silver Diner, you arent what you used to be.

I love silver diners. It is an upgraded diner compared to IHOP and a little nicer than Bob Evans. They have this guarantee that their food will always come out fresh, correct, and on time, and that the restrooms will always be clean. They do a good job holding up that promise to a fairly good standard. One time I asked for toilet paper that were out in all the bathrooms stalls they did fill it right away and also gave me and my husband an apology card that would make our next visit free of charge. Another time though my steak was wayyyyy done from my order of medium rare, the served apologized and did absolutely nothing. I think its the server that chooses whether or not they want to "bother" mentioning to the manager. The manager never came by and we just did not go back since due to the service ( it was an older male server around 70 years old....so we did not report it or anything). Food is excellent otherwise and pretty consistent from location to location. The prices are a little in the higher side for a diner but well worth it. Oh a little *TIP here they have the best milkshakes and *you can always ask to "split" the milkshake into 2 glasses, or it would come with one glass and are filling Tin next to it otherwise. Chocolate Oreo shake is my favorite. The healthy shakes tastes like skim milk with melted plastic so do avoid and just split a good shake with someone. Shrimp scampi is really good here and so are the crab cakes. Excellent T-bone steaks and all the Ruebens are amazing! I have eaten here hundred of times and they have childrens night in Tuesdays where kids can get face painted and animal balloon for free. Also kids eat free if they sign up for the kids club. Hope this helps guys! I do highly recommend this place if you ever pass by one. ;) oh I would give them 5 stars but I gave them 4 because of the minor food & cleanliness inconsistency from location to location and the servers training/service received in the pass.

I have to say that this was by far one of the best experiences that I have had in a while. I was particularly encouraged to visit this location because of the Gluten-freemenu that they offer. My co-workers and I were greeted with smiles by the friendly staff, the moment we walked through the door. Our server, Erin, was energetic, andquite knowledgeable about the menu items. Kudos to him and his great customer service skills. One of my co-workers enjoyed the Coconut Crusted French Toast which was gluten-free. I had the Bison Huevos Rancheros. Even though I was not enthusiastic about my entre, our Waiter offered to me that I try something else on the menu The Manager came by our table and apologized that I was not completely satisfied, even though it wasn’t their fault. We all thought that our Waiter Erin was very friendly and eager to make everything perfect for us. It was quite apparent that Erin has a natural ability to make the customer feel comfortable, and satisfied with the entire dining experience. I then tried the Strawberry Pancakes which were absolutely superb! My friends and colleagues and I will be back to try some other exciting things on the menu.

I dont know what the negative reviews are for. Maybe for things like standards they arent the best: burgers, salads, coffee. But nobody I know goes here for these. Their late night hours and quirky offerings are what keep us coming back! They make terrific salmon-wasabi sliders, all of their fish is delicious, and my friends go there religiously for some of their omelettes offerings. If you expect them to put effort into your food, than order food that they put effort in. They pride themselves on these dishes, and honestly, just ordering coffee or biscuits at a place like this would be pretty insulting to me, if I was the chef. Hell - there are sweet potato fries if you want something "standard." Admittedly their service can be a bit slow/ oblivious at times, but they are all good, upfront and down to earth people who are quick to reassure you that nothing was meant by it, and give you more attention down the line to compensate. The oldies are a favorite, so the music alone makes the atmosphere wonderful.
