Ten is very upscale, memorable of higher end sushi restaurants in major metro areas like New York or Denver. While the presentation and food are very good, the restaurant was not on par with like priced experiences in major cities. The menu was certainly a difficult read, with many common items having new names, instead of the names used in most restaurants. We were told the food was served "tapas" style, which Im not sure I understand since tapas is a specific cuisine; I believe they meant that one orders as one goes, which one can do in at any sushi restaurant. We cut our dinner short as the first order of 3 items took nearly 30 minutes to arrive - had we continued at that pace it would have been a 2 1/2 hour meal. Nigori "Diamond Dust" sake was served at $17/glass, which is insane. 30 year old scotch goes for less than that. We left with a $100 tab (tip included) for 3 rolls, 4 salmon sashimi and two glasses of Sake. That would barely compute in New York City. It certainly doesnt compute in Charlottesville.

Craving sushi and having lived in Charlottesville for over two years and not found a decent sushi restaurant yet, I took a risk and wondered into Ten. The place: hoppin. Apparently everyone knew about this well kept secret and hadnt told me. I experimented with the sashimi. .. Fresh, tasty, and phenomenal! I tried the menus "oh toro" (super rich marbled tuna), the sake (salmon), the hamachi (yellowtail), and the tako (streamed octopus). The tuna was seriously melt-in-your-mouth delicious!! I partnered the sashimi with av fabulously cloudy saki called "Dreamy Clouds" or something of the sort (pretty neutral and reminiscent flavor hints of a Mudslide), an appetizer of a perky and fresh seaweed salad, and a side of rice. Ended with the "Coffee & donuts" dessert. My experience was topped off and made better with the servers Alexander "Alex" & Katherine. Awesome atmosphere, wonderful food. Will DEFINITELY be back! :]

Having recently moved to the area from NYC, I was very pleased with the overall experience at "Ten" the first time my boyfriend and I dined there a few weeks ago. Last night, we left completely disappointed. I have had spicy tuna rolls at numerous sushi/japanese restaurants; the spicy tuna rolls (ordered 2) last night were overwhelmingly and ridiculously spicy. The service was slow (that was fine), but as a previous server/waitress, I must say, if I made a mistake, I confessed to the patron. We ordered 2 skewers and 6-7 rolls. The order of our food as presented to us was sushi, skewer, sushi, and then 5 minutes after we tried to finish our last rolls and reminded the server that we ordered 2 skewers, finally got the second skewer. With that, my review is 3 stars - first time was a 4, second time a 1/2 - an average.

I stumbled upon this hidden gem one evening, coincidentally the same night that Ten opened the outdoor dining; how pleased I was...Yet nothing could prepare me for the decadence of the meal itself; not only was the fish the freshest that I’ve ever tasted, served in such an artistic and complementary way, but the soy sauce itself is a savory mystery and delight, the best and most explosive that I’ve ever had. This was one of my most amazing dining experiences. I have plans to visit Ten again this weekend to spoil an equally delicious friend. As much as I would like to keep Ten a secret all to myself, I feel a responsibility to those who are in search for that special place that’s memory making and undeniably wonderful. Enjoy!

Made a reservation here for my boyfriends 24th birthday, 3 days in advance, for 4 people. When we arrived (10 min early). They had "accidentally" sat our table and we had to wait another 30 minutes to be seated. We ordered 6 sushi rolls and a few appetizers, and a cocktail each. Everything was just "okay" nothing blew me out of the park. The decor was amazing, so I thought the food would be the same. Our server was terrible. He seemed very busy and probably shouldnt have had as many tables as he did. Also, halfway through our dinner, part of the ceiling tiles started to fall about 3 feet from us, causing chaos in the restaurant. For a $350 dinner I would have expected a little more. I dont believe we will be going back.

I absolutely love fine dining and sushi, and this place delivered in spades. I was only in Charlottesville for a few days for work and was told that this was a "must-eat" restaurant, and wow were my friends not kidding! Some of the best seafood and sushi that Ive had anywhere in the world, beautifully presented. As I was there during Restaurant Week, I took advantage of their 3-course menu with the following: Shrimp Tempura Poppers Roll Miso Sea Bass While all 3 courses were delicious and delivered very unique and unusual flavor combinations, the Miso Sea Bass was out of this world. Oh my gawd...incredible. Dont take my word for it....go try it!

Im really quite divided on Ten. The sushi here is expensive. I dont mind spending money on great sushi and some of their sushi is really great, but some of their items are priced like expensive rolls but are actually two piece items. the quality of the fish has always been excellent but I cant figure out how they price a couple pieces the same price as a roll of comparable fish. Also the atmosphere in there is trying hard to be chic but the designer just missed it. I will go back because they do have the freshest sashimi in town but I wont go often, and probably only for a roll as an appetizer to a better dining experience.

Went here with my wife on our anniversary. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Charlottesville. I will have trouble eating sushi anywhere else. You have to try the tempura rock shrimp or the black cod. Some of the be food I have had at any restaurant. Cool restaurant where you can see the chefs preparing your meal and great service. Also some interesting Japanese beers that were unexpectedly very good.

Really cool decor with floating globes of light. Tasty food, though the sushi rolls probably arent much better than a cheaper place. Excellent sake selection with some that is exclusive to Ten. They have a happy hour menu for the bar with some less expensive food thats good after work, though the sake isnt discounted...

My date and I ordered a few different things to share, not a single thing disappointed. This place is my new favorite $ushi bar. In appreciation of the fresh food, prompt service along with an inviting atmosphere and dedication to their skill, I will make a point to stop in more often. Its the best!

Very expensive, very "elitist" feel inside. The sushi is good, but not dramatically better than much much cheaper places. There are better places if you just want a simple nice sushi dinner.

Fantastic date night spot - we always start with a creative cocktail and the avocado tempura. Its up one flight of steps, so keep that in mind. Fabulous service and they take reservations.

Great sushi, fairly expensive but worth it. The Chesapeake roll is to die for also the wyagu beef roll. Good atmosphere. Just wish the price was a little lower and Id be here everyday.

Im not a fan of Japanese food, but really enjoyed the tempura, meat skewers and grilled wagyu beef tenderloin. Service was very good and atmosphere is trendy but sophisticated.
