This is a guide to the "Sushi King Experience," specifically maximizing the number of rolls you eat at Sushi King AKA the "Final Roll Count" (FRC). A huge part of hitting a personal record on your FRC is preparation, not just the day of, but also leading up to your visit. You want to practice expanding your stomach in the couple days before attending- grapes are an excellent tool used by a lot of competitive eaters, including Kobayashi. When it comes to the day of, avoid eating much for the 12 hours prior to attending. I typically have just a couple of eggs for breakfast. Make sure to hydrate well so that your stomach is able to process the rolls quickly and efficiently. I always try to go with a group to help motivate me when the going gets tough. When youre halfway through your sixth rainbow roll and the times are getting tough, knowing that your buddy is right there with you can make all the difference. Avoid appetizers. Im a sucker for seaweed salad, and I let myself have a few bites just to get the enzymes in my stomach roaring, but it is crucial that you dont fill up on this stuff. Especially avoid the heavier appetizers, like the avocado salad. This stuff will bog you down and is sure to drop your FRC. Ive seen a lot of folks aspiring to hit an FRC PR, only to down a couple plates of avocado salad and only ending up eating 10 or 11 rolls. You hate to see it. When it comes to the event itself, everyone takes slightly different approaches- hitting a new FRC isnt just a science, its an art, and everyones unique. That being said, there are a few tips that are pretty universal: 1) Salivate often. Your spit helps break down food, so try to collect the spit when youre taking a break between bites. 2) Avoid creamier rolls. I try to avoid more than 1 or 2 Volcano/Crazy Dragon Rolls. The Asian Mayo sauce will leave you dead in your tracks. 3) Dont drink too much water. Just take small sips to help wash down all that rice- any more and youre taking valuable stomach space. 4) Pacing- I try to eat my first 5 or 6 rolls as quickly as possible, but after that you need to slow down a bit, and try to let the stomach catch up a bit. 5) Vegetarian rolls can be a good option as a break between the meatier, more filling rolls. Also will help with keeping the mercury levels in your blood down. Make sure to take care of yourself after- stay safe and good luck!

I have been going there almost weekly since they opened. Their food is very good and I especially like the Salmon Bow from the appetizer, dessert an salad bar. Unfortunately, their service seem to start declining over the past couple of months. I have had some great service for the most part; but I have also had absolutely lousy service - without any effort to comp my experience in any way shape or form. March 18th, is probably the last time I will be patronizing this restaurant. Not only did it take almost 5-minutes before the waiter actually showed up to ask what I wanted to drink and take my order (the norm seems to be 3 to 5 minutes), but it took more than 20-minutes for that order to arrive. I could have grabbed some appetizers from the bar, but the last time I did just that it took them more than 20-minutes to eventually take my order (to include ask what I wanted to drink). No only did it take over 20-minutes for my order, a single roll and two hot appetizers, to get delivered. They also delivered the hot appetizers AFTER the roll. And when they delivered my follow-on order within a reasonable time, the waiter made it sound like that should make up for the first order. I have experienced this type of delay a handful of times and not once was I offered a comp of any type. NOTHING! And this include the times I had to get up and talk to the Manager or Host about someone not taking my order for almost half an hour (the time I grabbed something from the appetizer bar ahead of time). I understand that this type of delays can happen, but I do not understand them not wanting to make up for their poor performance with a discount, a coupon or even asking if I want to order something to go (which is not usually allowed). As much as I like the food and some of the staff (who recognizes me and usually goes out of their way to provide me with good service), I am now looking for an alternative restaurant to regularly patronize.

I cant claim to have lived in Japan or eaten the best sushi but I can give you the perspective of the other end of the spectrum. I love sushi and eat it every chance I can get and having just moved here from Oklahoma I can tell you this sushi is just as good as the best sushi I had in Oklahoma. For the price of two rolls a few states over you can get all you can eat here. From my perspective this place is pretty damn great. It wont blow you away but if youve got a sushi itch to scratch or just want to pig out on some decent sushi this is your place. The service can be a little slow but I imagine they do that to help reduce the amount people eat. Dont go here in a hurry, just talk with some friends and eat until you can roll out the door. The sushi bar is pretty good too, not everything is worth mentioning or eating but the jalapeno yellowtail is awesome. Dont expect a ton and youll love this place. Its a great value for what you get. If youre wanting the best sushi in town, go elsewhere, if youre hungry and dont want to break the bank this is it.

It is just ok. I dont feel the sushi is of any higher quality than youd find at a regular Chinese buffet. Our waiter did let us order more than one plate at a time each. We had come here about a year ago and hadnt been back since. For the $50+ it cost (2 meals and 2 drinks + tip), wed have been better off getting better sushi somewhere else. You do get to try a lot of different things and some things are good like the pepper tuna and jalapeño yellowtail on the food bar. Some things are not. The beef dumplings were greasy and bland, the shrimp dumplings were like tater tots and fish sticks had a baby, and the beef teriyaki was tough and in a sickenly sweet teriyaki sauce and they almost tasted like liver. Most of the rolls and sashimi were decent. Service was friendly but a little forgetful. He was working many tables though and he was nice enough that it didnt bother us too much.

Food was great and for $16.99, it is not bad price for amount of food you can eat. I give 3 out of 5 stars due to three things; 1. The waitress having hard time to understand. They kept on coming to our table after we order, asking what we ordered. Also, she wanted to explain to me why the roll I ordered took more than 20 minutes, but I gave up on her. 2. Since it is very popular place to eat, we knew we had to order bunches of rolls at once and ahead of times. But the table is so small to fit. If we to order correct portion at a time, we will eat our dinner in 3 hours. 3. With #1 & #2 reasons above, we couldnt eat as much we wanted. But on the receipt, asking minimum 18% as tips for their service. Since when the restaurant demands the tips amount to customer. This is wrong!!!
