I lived in Woodbridge for 2 1/2 years. This place used to be one of our weekend favorites. Over the time weve had several bad experiences but we kept coming back in hopes that their deficiencies would be rectified. Over the years the chefs seem less enthused (and not because we used to be regulars) some have developed bad attitudes, they seem frustrated, and always fighting with each other (chefs and servers). They yell and bicker in front of their customers. One time I had a chef get an attitude with me on the accuracy of my order because the server was confused and evidently wrote it incorrectly. Good thing they verify your order prior to cooking. Food has been inconsistent: portions and quality. (Hibachi experience only) Ive had one server rudely ask why I didnt leave a tip on my credit card unbeknownst to him I was leaving a cash tip. Theyve gotten some new young servers since. Theyve been hiring for the past 6 months. I wonder why... The management lacks organization, HR experience, teamwork ethics, leadership. This was realized after I recommended to my sister that she apply for a job there. They seemed like really NICE people. I was disappointed in her horror stories in just a couple of days working for them. One of the more experienced waitresses working there used to be a regular server. She has an awful attitude both with the customers and workers. She used to criticize our orders, especially when we werent as hungry and decided to share a plate. Heaven forbid you order Sushi while your family is having Hibachi. (Theyve improved on this) Several people have quit working there because of her. Im glad she isnt serving as much but, I feel bad for the workers! No one deserves to be belittled, ridiculed, and taken advantage of. (Speaking from personal experience) If you dont mind working like a slave, being underpaid, under appreciated, long hours, no breaks, no team work, lack of organization... This job is for you. They need to update their furniture (chairs are hanging on by a thread), fix some attitudes, and treat their workers better!

Now, Im sure that many restaurants get more poor reviews than positive because of the anger and frustration that comes with a bad experience. I am cognizant of that fact as I review this very poor experience. It all started with when we arrived, the table space around the griddle was extremely "sticky." When I asked them to wipe it down, their efforts were unsuccessful... the surfaces need a deeper clean than a wet rag. On to the meal service... Basically, since my wife has a seafood allergy, they decided to cook her chicken and steak separately. During the course of the food preparation at the table, the service was slow. My wife ordered a drink Form the bar and later during the presentation, we ordered another. It wasnt until 15 minutes later that, once I complained to the near absent waitress, was my wife able to get her next drink. Finally, when they did bring out her food after everyone else had just about received all of theirs (recall that the cook makes your courses and serves it progressively in front of you), her food was stone cold. I dont mean warm or even cool... I mean the meat was cold. When I finally was able to get the waitress attention, she offered to comp my wifes beverage. No. I am not going to pay $27 for a plate of cold food. Ultimately, having been there before, we were very surprised by how bad the overall event was. We will not be going back as there other teppanyaki restaurants near by.

I just had a horrible experience during dinner tonight here. Took my wife and children for what I thought was going to be a nice Saturday night out. The chef, named Tony, was very rude. Like an absolute moron he said to my wife "so do you have a boyfriend... You look like a mean girl...im gonna cook your food extra nice for free..." My wifes sister was with us as well with her daughter. He hit on her as well calling her "baby and honey". What part of "Im married and here with my husband...your making us very uncomfortable" wasnt he hearing? Like the moron he was, he kept going. We wanted to walk out but since the children really wanted to eat at a hibachi we patiently stayed. We are a Muslim family, and both my wife and her sister covers head to toe according to our Islamic faith. I have no idea if this moron chef was saying such garbage intentionally to instigate anger in us or what. Even our kids (the oldest is 9) were disgusted at his rude comments. I didnt pay a single penny tip. I shouldnt have even paid for the food. I let the woman at the counter know of what had happened. I will never be going back to this place again.

Today I met my husband for lunch with my daughter and it was such a horrid experience that we left before even eating. When we arrived there was only 1 other person there and our waitress knew nothing when I asked questions. She couldn’t tell me the lunch specials or what was in the lunch sushi pack. I ordered an appetizer and got 12 shrimp (small) for $13 which is insane. Then I ordered food and got sushi and two lunch specials. It took 30 minutes to get (we were then the only people in the restaurant) and when we received it, my daughters steak was literally raw with white fat on the sides and a light browning. The waitress when I brought it to her attention then told me that “she didn’t cook it”. I asked for a Manager and he seemed less than concerned as well and told me the cook was having an “off day”. The food was disgusting and raw and bleeding, it took forever and the staff was uncaring and clueless. Needless to say we left as they had no desire to rectify the issues. We will never go back again and I believe I understand why it was empty when we got there.

Sakura gets a Big Zero!!! We came to Sakura today (4/2/17) celebrating one of the Elders of our Church 75th Birthday. We made a reservation for the party room and they had our reservation but not for the room. Someone made a mistake and did not reserve the room. However, the room was not being used and they refuse to let us use the room. The manager was so rude and did not want to accommodate us. It was not busy and they only had 2 servers. They wanted us to sit at separate tables. We were explaining we are a group and would like to sit and celebrate as a group. The manager just refused to help us make our small celebration work. We left with our party of 40 and took our money to Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse in Woodbridge. Stay away from Sakura and go to Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse. I never ate at Sakura, but after we left other members in our party said they was glad we left because the food is nasty and the service is bad. We experience the bad service first hand. Our church and family will never go back to Sakura.

My boyfriend and I go here itleast twice a month for the past year. This place has the best sushi and service in this area. We travel south to go to this Sakura. In the past month a new server started in the sushi bar area and he is kind of akward and slow, but the sushi chefs are money and the sushi is amazing! Our bill is about $65 to $90 for the two of us and we eat a lot! Most evenings we tip $20. I am unsure what is going on with the bad reviewers experience, but I really like this place. Top notch sushi!
