This account is 100% accurate & not exaggerated. I found this location by google review. We were the only customers in the restaurant. Quiet couple looking for a high quality, chill sushi bar. 1. Server was completely informal with us, despite speaking perfect English. 2. He didnt know what nigori is (Im used to having sake brands suggested to me by flavor before I spend $25 on a bottle - but nigori is a type of sake, not even a brand) so he walked away for over five minutes to "ask" someone about it (the only other person in the place as far as I could tell was the chef at the bar, whom he did not approach), only to come back & inform me that there was a sake menu on the table; I may be unobservant for not noticing it, but he should know that they have a sake menu. 3. He did not open or shake the sake for us, nor pour our first glasses - been drinking sake for 9 years & never had this happen. 4. I ordered my staple at any sushi place: Tuna Tatake, to which he asked me to repeat myself three times before I had to point at it in the menu - believe me I pronounced it correctly. I was instead served Ahi Tuna. I did not formally complain, I just accepted his mistake. 5. Our appetizer dishes were never removed from the table. 6. Our drinks were never refilled. 7. Every time I glanced towards him he was staring blankly at the chef, who never made eye contact with me or suggested that our server check on us. 8. Once we were served our meal, he never returned to the table of his own volition. We sat there for twenty minutes with empty dishes & he didnt notice we were finished eating. Reminder we were the ONLY PATRONS & they werent closing yet. 9. Finally, we realized he wasnt coming back. "Excuse me, sir?" my date said. The server turned to him from the bar without attempting to approach us & replied "What?" Then my date spoke up, "Could we get the check?" to which the server responded by walking away. At least he brought the check back with him. He did not take any dishes from the table, my date had to move them so he could sign the receipt. He never asked if we wanted anything else. 10. We did not leave a tip; Ive never had service bad enough to warrant that before. As we waited outside for our ride to receive us, the server actually came out of the restaurant & inquired as to why we didnt tip him - this was the most interest he took in us all night. There are better places to go in the area.

This is quite a small restaurant with both table and bar seating. It is on the ground floor with no step so easily accessible and lots of parking. The salad was tiny but the miso soup was good. Reasonable Sushi selection. The spider rolls were not very good. They had a slight bitter taste. The salmon and tuna rolls were nice and fresh. I was pleased to see vegetarian choices and they had both classic and American style Sushi. The green tea was very weak. The service was uneven we asked for a second bowl of miso three times but it never turned up. The wait staff were polite but not especially attentive. On the whole this is an average Japanese restaurant. The food is acceptable without being amazing. I would come back again but I would not make a special trip. Lunch for two with no alcohol cost $50 without the tip

Nothing very fancy about this place and thats apart of the charm. The food and the service is superb, the sushi is very fresh and they have an enormous selection to choose from. Dont want sushi? Some of their other dishes are arguably just as good. This is a great place for lunch of for a quick, no frills dinner. Lastly, the music here is great! Everytime Ive been people ask about the source of their music, it add to the positive experience. If youre looking for good sushi in Loudoun County then this is your place.

Weve only recently started coming to Tanuki, but are in LOVE with the food here! There are different lunch specials on rotation, and Im partial to the curry chicken katsu myself - the curry sauce goes wonderfully with the chicken and vegetables. The staff here are always friendly and its really just a nice little restaurant. We aim to try something different every time we stop by, and are never disappointed.

My friends and I visited here to satisfy our sushi cravings. We started off with a few appetizers, and I got to say that I have not seen these appetizers anywhere. We had sashimi salad and it was very delicious. For our main course, we had the spicy salmon roll and a roll with yellow tail. They were very tasty. I would definitelyl come here again.

The owners are very friendly and fun to talk to. The quality of the sushi is great, and they give better quantity than the other places in Ashburn. If you come get the Hamachi Kama, or just tell the chef how much you want to spend and let him take you on a journey.

Best Sushi in Ashburn hands down. Peter, the owner and head chef is awesome, make sure to try the James Bond, Kamakasii, Pink Lady special rolls, and my favorite simple Nigeri Sushi Salmon! The salmon melts in your mouth! I am here one a week, if not more.
