Im a sushi snob and have enjoyed excellent experiences at top rated restaurants all over the country, including many in DC since Im a native. Aoba is my favorite by far in all respects, from the complimentary ginger tofu starter to the super service and top notch fish prepared by top notch chefs. Here are some of my picks for a truly awesome experience (in addition to much of the fantastic nigiri, of course): stuffed fresh tuna, cucumber salad (ask for it), pink lady roll, crab shrimp crunch roll, futo maki, any of the fried rolls are worth trying...and be sure to save room for the banana tempura! Also, ask if they have any specials. A few months back they had live lobster, which the lady sitting next to me at the bar ordered. Kinda sad to watch the preparation but when it came out, damn if it didnt make me want to order one. Come to think of it, their live scallops are good too, but they can run out quick. If youre feeling adventurous, sit at the bar and see if you can get the waitresses or chefs to do a sake bomb with you. They really get into it!

Great place for affordable price sushi in the Sterling area. Tasty rolls and sashimi and you get your moneys worth for sure. 8.23.2016 Back in the Sterling area for busy staying at my favorite hotel the Hyatt Place just across the road. If you need a place to stay for business travel, great location to Dulles area. Had to dine at Aoba Sushi for sure, great dinner again. Tonight I enjoyed a Rainbow Roll, Aoba Roll, and special New Hampshire Roll, which was by far my favourite of the night. This place was very busy tonight. I think after I had posted the first foodie photos 5 months ago and Google Searches picked up on the place busy has increased. More than 65000 views of my favorite rolls.

Great experience there on a Saturday around 5:30 pm. Very good wait staff. Served complimentary individual cups of miso soup with separate small dish of tofu in soy sauce and a sharing vegetable platter as an appetizer. Then we both ordered ramen noodle soup with pork and vegetables. We also had an appetizer of a type of dumpling with octopus inside it. All was attractively put together. A very pleasant experience. Not too far from Dulles Airport. I recommend it. Wish it was closer to Arlington!

Really good sushi, the best weve found in the area. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. We ordered takoyaki, something we have a hard time finding, and several rolls. All were excellent with good seasoning. The seafood was all fresh, and obviously picked with care. We were beyond pleased with our experience and will be back soon!

This restaurant is fantastic. The sushi is great quality, at the price I would expect (or maybe even a little less), and the service is excellent. We received not one but two complimentary appetizers, friendly conversation from the sushi chefs, and helpful advice on the menu. Ive eaten at probably close to a hundred sushi places, and this little hole in the wall ranks right up near the top.

I have eaten here many times and the sushi is always very good and fresh and the presentation is always quite pleasing. The servers are top notch, and the value (at least at lunch) cant be beat. For dinner, like most places the price goes up. I feel for some of the meals it is quite overpriced, but given a little menu studying and you will find a good value even in the evening.

I have NEVER written a review before but after eating lunch here today ..........WOW! I have eaten some REALLY expensive sushi all over DC and never had any with the flavor and texture as this. The portion size was very good and staff is also above par. I have not tried the kitchen but the sushi is great. Go EAT!

Probably the best sushi place in the area. I go here once a week usually and the fish is always fresh and the staff is friendly. The prices are about average for sushi, which is good, considering the quality. I love the big slabs of meat they put on the rice.

Rice was very dry on my rolls and the fish looked discolored. Place is dark and dingy and just had a bad vibe about the whole experience. Cheap sushi should never be an option!
