See the thing you have to know about DC is that a lot of the people living here now are not from DC. Were transplants. Being a transplant for New York, I have high expectations for bagels. Being that this place is called "Brooklyn Bagels", I decided to give it a try. But clearly nobody that works or cooks here anything to do with this place has ever even set foot in Brooklyn before. The quality of the bagels themselves were alright maybe, better than grocery store brand, but not really anything to write home about. My biggest complaint is the service. The guy who helped me obviously struggled with his English, which I sympathize with, but, I mean, come on. Hire people that can understand an order. I ordered three bagels, and all three bagels were not as I ordered them. One came without jelly, one was the wrong bagel type, and the third was just offensive. Fact about New York, we have lots of Italians, Brooklyn in particular. I ordered an onion bagel with mozzarella and tomato, which is an extremely common order where I grew up near Arthur Ave. in the Bronx. I was expecting a slice of mootzie with a slice of tomato. Any deli in NY would give me that. This guy clearly never heard of such an order before because he asked me to repeat it three times. Then the bagel came out as an everything bagel with shredded, unmelted cheese, and no tomato. Look, I understand that NY is famous for its bagels and its Italian food, and that it would be unfair of me to have high expectations of a bagel joint down here. But calling yourself Brookyln Bagels is such a lie. A bagel should be correct, cheap, and take about two minutes to get. This place had a line almost out the door with yuppies and hipsters, who also have clearly never even been to anywhere in Brooklyn maybe except Williamsburg, and a lox bagel is nearly $7 here, which is more than double what it ought to cost. In conclusion, you will like this place if you didnt grow up in NY because you have the novelty of being able to pretend that youre a New Yorker eating a bagel. If youre from New York, your first visit will be your last.

This bagel bakery definitely has the best bagels in Arlington, but also has consistently rude and surly employees. I dont write critical letters often, but the management of this place needs to better train their people. I know its a busy, short-order place but that does not absolve a business from hiring friendly, customer-service oriented employees. Just this morning, I went in with two children, ordered a dozen bagels, with two toasted with butter, and there was a miscommunication. The counter employee threw up his hands and walked away from the order. I didnt make a big deal about it, but REALLY. Taking 30 seconds and talking with a customer when there is an issue goes a long way. Again, I would not write this negative review if it was the first time. In fact, I want to write a letter to management, but there is no corporate website, at least that I can find. I recommend going elsewhere to get your bagels--surly employees plus the added inconvenience of not taking VISA/MC, make this place a good place to avoid.

Not usually a fan of NY Style bagels but at least these were true NY Style bagels, and not just in name only as they were puffy and had a moist crust as expected so at least theyre true to form. The problem with NY Style bagels is usually when you order a sandwich with egg/cheese you either get overwhelmed by the bagel due to too little egg/cheese or you get a jawbreaker which can feed a small village. The sausage egg and cheese everything bagel was just right and that was surprising. The secondary pastries arent quite given as much attention, and seem like an afterthought, so Id rather then forget them, as the cookie was undercooked and wrapped in plastic that was stuck to the cookie and got small pieces stuck to it. Overall not a bad place, and after Capital Bagel Bakery went out of business this is the only good bagel place in NOVA.

Fast service, delicious bagels and plenty of options at a reasonable price. There is an ATM if you dont have cash as this is cash-only payment. I got egg, cheese and salami on an onion bagel with herb & garlic cream cheese as well as an orange juice. The bagel was superb (high quality ingredients & eggs not overcooked). However they misunderstood my order and gave me 2 different bagel orders (and charged me for two). I didnt bother correcting it cause they were both so good (second bagel was onion bagel with plain cream cheese that I didnt order). The fast service and quality food more than made up for their mistake. Im sure they would have corrected it if I pointed it out. Overall I highly recommend.

I was expecting Brooklyn Bagel Bakery to be awesome since so many people in Arlington rave about it, but I was highly disappointed. I went on a Saturday around 11 AM and the place was packed. My boyfriend and I waited in line for about 10 minutes, then placed our order for 2 bagels toasted with cream cheese. We paid and waited a couple minutes for our order, then headed out with our bagels in tow. When we got home realized that our bagels we NOT toasted, and topped with only a very thin spread of cream cheese (when cream cheese costs $2.50 per bagel, I expect a decent amount). I would have had a better bagel at the Dunkin Donuts across the street.

First off, the ATM fee is a very standard, even low, $1.75. As for the bagels, theyre not what youd get in Brooklyn but theyre an awful lot closer than most other bagels Ive had outside of NYC. The service was quick and delivered without the attitude cited in other reviews. Similarly, employees handling food were wearing gloves. If you have trouble with noisy spaces you may want to eat your bagel somewhere else. Their process for making bagels is a little noisy, but they gets points for doing it behind plexiglass so you can watch . They lose a stat for having gendered single stall restrooms when they could be all gender.

As a proud Ex-New Yorker, I assure you that you wont find authentic NY bagels at this place but you will find authentic Brooklyn attitude if there is a slight confusion abt your order that was not even caused by you. I let go of the first few occurrences but the pattern of crappy customer service gets to you after a while. Btw..this is a cash only place so you wont get a receipt & the price for the same item will vary depending on who is at the register. I found out that I was charged for the sandwich that they didnt get right & I didnt even find in my bag...crazy huh?

If it looks, smells, tastes, and runs quick like a real Brooklyn, NY, bagel shop -- and they have a good whitefish salad with no filler -- then it is a real, legit, bagel shop -- and in Courthouse, Arlington, Virginia, which is just a long walk or an easy bike ride. Also, close to the Saturday Arlington farmers market. A whitefish salad with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on a toasted everything bagel, with a dill pickle, is the way to go for me. Youre always welcome to join me on any given Saturday morning before the market closes at noon! Be my guest!
