Walking into what might have once been a warehouse that is now a converted into a café, I tried Dog Tag Bakery for the first time. The vibe inside was eerily subdued. Service was discovered via a tiny break squeezed between tall counters, blocked by tables for patrons, and at the way back. Initially, the barista seemed confused by my order of medium cortado, but prepared it anyway. While waiting, I inspected the rest of the snacks in the case, and was sticker-shocked by sandwiches that were over $10 each! (Sadly, perhaps, that is going rate in Georgetown for a sandwich these days?) When the drink was ready, it appeared a bit small to me, so I asked if this was a medium. It was only then that I learned that although it is clearly written on the menu board above the counter that cortados come in three sizes at three different prices, the reality is that they are all made in the same-sized glass. Perhaps, this was her confusion when I asked for a medium? I now shared her confusion, and I didn’t know how much the drink was? As for the taste of the coffee, it was fine. Also, I later learned that café honorably assistants disabled war veterans, but this wasn’t apparent to me during my visit. I thought “Dog Tag” was a clever theme related to canines. So, with unclear pricing, over-priced sandwiches, and a confusing theme, I’ll try another café next time.

Polished, sincere, yummy, and well-run, this place hits all the marks. DECOR: Someone tried hard to get this right. The red-white-blue motif is subtly done, it doesnt scream "AMERICA F-YEAH" like the sorts of places that hang flags floor to ceiling. The chandelier is as pretty as it is overwhelming. SERVICE: After maybe a dozen visits I can assure you everyone is polite, friendly, and helpful. FOOD: SO weird, I have never had a bad meal here. Sandwiches, pastry, coffee, espresso, it has all been phenomenal. I suggest literally everything. So why only for stars? Believe me, Ive been clicking 4, then 5, then back. Heres my conundrum: its a touch expensive. Clearly I dont mind, I think the food is worth the price, and its Georgetown so you should expect to pay more. I eat dive, I eat posh, but this is the only place where I notice the $ every time Ive been there.

The coffee scene has hit DC, but somehow it hasnt hit Georgetown. Yes, theres a few coffee shops/bakeries in G-town, but most dont have wifi (Im looking at you, Baked and Wired). Thats why my wife and I were excited to stumble upon Dog Tag Bakery on a recent shopping trip to the area. Not only do they make a great coffeecake and challah shallot bread, but they also have free, strong wifi and plenty of seating. We came on a Saturday afternoon and had no problem finding a place to sit. If youre in Georgetown and need a coffee shop/bakery to work at, come here!

Whats better than a bakery that makes delicious baked good? A bakery thats also a nonprofit that supports and helps disabled veterans to get their MBAs and start their own small business. Nobel cause aside, the bread and cakes were super yummy! I tried the lemon chess pie (think lemon bar with a flaky crust), which was buttery and had a strong honey flavor. The place has a bright and cheerful vibe, and is perfect for studying or reading. They even have signs for laptop free tables. What a hidden gem near the Georgetown waterfront!

I work across the street from Dog Tag, and its always my favorite go-to for something sweet. No matter what Ive ordered, the food is consistently delicious and the employees are very friendly. On my first visit, they even gave me a tour of the bakery and classroom area. It definitely doesnt hurt to know that my dessert is helping train veterans with marketable job skills. I love it!

Great coffee, espresso-based. We had a croissant and it was as good as it gets. Few seats dominated by people with computers, so we took our order to go and went to the river and enjoyed the nice winter day. There was a bit of a line but the service was good. The lady ordering before us was incredibly hateful and the staff there handled it with grace.

I caught wind of this bakery through a good friend, and made sure to stop by when passing through DC. Wonderful mission, warm environment with great people, and dont even get me started on the coconut macaroons! Also, their sandwiches are delicious. A great Georgetown spot - support a just cause while enjoying the highest quality food and drink.

I love this bakery! Providing opportunities for ex-vets, this bakery offers lunch specials and housemade pastries and breads. I am a fan of their small cranberry mini loaves and other sweets. The staff here are friendly, and theres a nice little cafe set-up where you can enjoy your food. Limited metered-parking up along Grace St.

I came for a cappuccino and loved it. The foam was outstanding and will try a latte next time I am here. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was nicely decorated. I cannot say too much about this place since I came for a quick coffee, but was overall satisfied here. I like how this bakery is ran by two veterans.

I was cafe hunting back in April while I was in DC and actually found it via Yelp and I was happy about my experience. The staff was friendly and helped me navigate through my options and what was their best sellers in the shop. I also love the mission of this cafe, anything for a good cause is a Win in my book.

What an awesome find! It is right next to Patagonia in Georgetown and the staff and the food couldnt be better. Who needs Starbucks when you can come to an awesome place like this! The scones and muffins are fantastic as well as their other baked goods. Check them out!

I got a egg and cheese sandwich- it was really tasty! Coffee was good, I was charged for a top off, which wasnt communicated to me until the coffee was already poured. Oh well. Money goes to a god cause. CHOCOLATE ZUCCHINI BREAD WAS AMAZING!

Dog Tag is an amazing place, it is a world class bakery producing all kinds of delicious food... and they do it while teaching disabled veterans not just to be bakers, but to run businesses. Check it out, you wont be disappointed.

The hot chocolate is the best Ive ever had. The staff here has always been friendly to me and the place is cute. If you can get a seat its also a good place to do some work. My rating is only missing a star because its so small.
